Overall Rating
Mostly unchanged from its outgoing model, the 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe gets a new XRT trim and a PHEV model. Its features and configurations remain unchanged as well and so does its humble asking MSRP of $27,200.
The 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe mostly carries over itself with some minor updates. While its basic specs and features remian unchanged, an all new "Sante Fe XRT" trim with rugged styling debuts for 2022. Also new is the 2022 Santa Fe Plug-in Hybrid variant which is even more concerned about economy and environment than the Santa Fe Hybrid. That being said, the 2022 Santa Fe has also won the IIHS Top Safety Pick+ rating.
Released recently and in stores now, the 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe starts at an MSRP of $27,200 including destination charges. Following its significant refresh in 2021, the 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe presents a good choice for those looking for a humble midsize SUV. However, in its crowded segment. It does face stiff competition from some popular names like the Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4 and others.
Among the Santa Fe's five available trim levels, we'd pick the "SEL' as the most value-oriented choice. For its class and price, the Santa Fe SEL checks most of the expected boxes with features like heated front seats, wireless charging pad, keyless entry and ignition and more. Pairing it up with the available AWD system would further add some weather-proofing to its already charming character.

The 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe carries one of the lowest starting prices in its class and an impressive list of standard features, which go a long way in adding to its value proposition. - Kelley Blue Book
With the new XRT trim in place, the 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe has a total of five trim levels on offer. No changes in specifications though and the previous four trims; SE, SEL, Limited and Calligraphy retain their familiar set of features. As in the 2021 Santa Fe, you still get a Base ‘SE’ with plenty of goodies. Standard features include 18’ inch alloy wheels, adaptive cruise control, 8..0-inch touchscreen infotainment and more.
The “SEL” adds niceties like heated front seats and wireless charging pad and also unlocks two optional packages; the Convenience Package and Premium Package. The Santa Fe SEL also unlocks two optional packages; the Convenience Package and Premium Package. The new XRT trim gathers some features from these optional packages like a 10.25’ inch touchscreen and pairs them with a rugged black exterior kit.
While the Santa Fe Limited tries venturing into the luxury arena, the top-tier Santa Fe Calligraphy closely follows the Palisade Calligraphy. With luxury features like quilted leather seats and faux suede headliner, the Calligraphy feels more like a Genesis on a budget. Prices for the 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe start at $27,200 for the base “SE’ and go all the way up to $40, 960 for the fully-loaded Calligraphy.

All models come with FWD as standard but an extra $1700 gets you the available AWD on either of these trims. Also, the lower three trims come with a 2.5-liter inline-4 engine mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. In contrast, the Limited and Calligraphy trims enjoy a more powerful turbocharged iteration of the same pot mated to an 8-speed automated manual transmission.
Among the Santa Fe's five available trim levels, we'd pick the "SEL' as the most value-oriented choice. For its class and price, the Santa Fe SEL checks most of the expected boxes with features like heated front seats, wireless charging pad, keyless entry and ignition and more. It's pretty apparent that the Santa Fe’s suspension setup was tuned for comfort more than anything else. It does have light, responsive steering, and powerful brakes, however. - Carbuzz
With no mechanical changes under the hood, the 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe carries forward its two engine options. You still get the SE, SEL along with the new XRT model with a 2.5-liter inline-4 engine mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The naturally aspirated motor puts out 191 hp and 181 lb-ft of torque. The Limited and Calligraphy models continue to benefit from the same 2.5-liter turbocharged motor mated to an 8-speed automated manual. With the turbocharger, the engine cranks out 277 hp and 311 lb-ft of torque.
The available power with either of the engines is sent either to the front or all four wheels. The base engine feels adequately powered in city speeds but does tend to struggle in the higher rpm range. The standard 8-speed automatic transmission feels refined as well with a linear power delivery. With the base engine, the Santa Fe acclerates from 0-60 MPH in 8.9 seconds which is no surprise for its segment. However, enthusiasts would appreciate the enhanced power and responsiveness of the turbocharged motor which pulls up the 0-60 run in just 6.0 seconds.
Where the Santa Fe strikes an impressive balance is with its composed ride and handling. While it's not as sporty as a Genesis GV70, it provides just the right amount of athleticism that you would seek in its segment. Around the city, the steering offes good feedback and the available "Sport" driving mode makes it more enjoyable with enhanced throttle response and steering feedback. However, at highway speeds, the Santa Fe does expose its softer suspension setup with a bit of body-movement as well, around fast corners.

Interestingly, all the popular rivals in the segment here, offer a similar power output. The only exception being the Toyota RAV4 which gets a small edge with its 203 hp inline-4 motor. However, that extra little power doesn’t make the RAV4’s performance standout from its rivals. Yes, the Toyota is surely more capable and diverse than the others but it lacks the comfort and swiftness of the Hyundai Santa Fe. While the Kia Sorento is as disciplined and skilled as the Santa Fe, the Honda CR-V is a bit more comfortable than the Hyundai siblings here.
The Hyundai Santa Fe gets an EPA-rated 25 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway with its base engine, which is excellent for a midsize SUV. - Cars.U.S.News
One of the few aspects where the Santa Fe could have done better is its fuel economy. Especially in a segment where fuel economy significantly contributes to buying decisions. Not that it has a huge appetite but its rivals offer a better economy. On the move, a 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe with the base engine offers 26 MPG combined fuel economy. Surprisingly, even with the powerful turbocharged engine, it still delivers a 25 MPG combined economy.

In contrast, rivals like the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4 offer a class-leading 30 MPG combined fuel economy. Both the frugal members in the pack here benefit from a comparatively lighter body alongside more refined and efficiency-tuned transmissions. However, where the Hyundai Santa Fe has an upper hand is its 18.8 gallon fuel tank which is the largest in the contest here. The beefy fuel tank helps the Santa Fe with a best-in-class combined driving range of 488 miles.
Besides a surprisingly spacious cabin, the just-updated Santa Fe offers good tech features and safety ratings.- MotorTrend
With a thorough makeover in its recent 2021 model, the 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe doesn’t get any major update on the inside. Not a bad thing, since it has one of the most attractive cabins in its segment. Drawing inspirations from the larger Hyundai Palisade, the Santa Fe welcomes you with a spacious and upscale cabin. Especially in the top-end Calligraphy trim which peeks into luxury territory with its amenities like quilted leather seats and ambient interior lighting. Build quality and fit and finish feels top notch and the higher trims especially the Calligraphy does peek into the luxury territory.
The dashboard has a nice soft-touch to it and so does the supple leather upholstery. The two-tone color theme, waterfall-themed center-console with shiny-gloss and brushed metallic accents, significantly elevate the premium vibe inside. As standard, you get manual seats but based on your preference and trim choice, the Santa Fe also offers you power-adjustable front seats. The front seats are wide and supportive with comfortable padding and are also available with heating and ventilation.

You also get heated seats at the rear where the bench is wide and as comfortable as the front chairs. No dearth of space either as the Santa Fe offers ample headroom and legroom at both the rows. Even at the rear, the Santa Fe opens up an impressive 36.4 cu-ft of cargo space which is more than healthy for its class and segment. At the heart of Santa Fe’s interior lies a standard 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system sitting atop the dashboard. As standard, the infotainment comes bundled with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and four USB ports.
Stepping up to the SEL also brings in Hyundai’s Blue Link connected services and a wireless mobile charging pad too. The screen is crisp and precise with good graphics if not best and also has a clean user interface. The new XRT and higher trims unlock a bigger 10.25’ inch touchscreen infotainment and a digital instrument panel. However, the larger infotainment setup is not very responsive and does lag up at times. Overall, the Santa Fe enjoys a very thoughtful and premium interior which is also rich in features and creature comforts. Some of the key interior features are listed below:
Beyond the questionable front end, the rest of Santa Fe's styling is clean and inoffensive.- motor1
With no updates in place, the 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe proudly flashes its elegant design which was recently updated for its 2021 model year. With a new design, the current Santa Fe looks sharper, more premium and has a better road presence than before. Although its overall form factor remains unchanged, the new standard LED lamps with vertical DRLs couple well with the large front grille. From the front, the Santa Fe has a good sense of boldness and maturity.
On to its side, the subtle chrome window line, 18 inch standard alloy wheels with flared arches and stronger body lines, accentuate its premium presentation. The wider hips seamlessly integrating into the slim LED tail lamp bar also add a fine touch of muscle and sleekness into its character. Talking muscles, the new XRT trim stands out in its family with its black exterior cladding, unique 18’ inch wheels, XRT side steps and skid plates too. The XRT’s rugged exterior theme also comes with roof rack cross rails for some extra visual flair.

Overall, the 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe is a neatly designed midsize SUV with a distinct premium appeal and wears its core character on its sleeves. Its wider, lower and longer footprint compared to most of its rivals is very thoughtful and well proportioned. However, the other three rivals too, have a distinct charisma of their own and it all comes down to personal taste and choice. While the Toyota RAV4 has that robust and capable SUV appearance, the Honda CR-V and Kia Sorento look as premium as the Santa Fe.
The 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe is packed with ample safety features. Hyundai is popular among families because of the reliability and safety. The car offers an advanced driver assistance system (ADAS).
Few of the key safety highlights of the 2022 hyundai Santa Fe are:-
We all know that Auto Parking assist comes in luxury cars like Mercedes Benz or BMW. Hyundai has seriously upgraded it's feature offering in the Limited trim as a standard.

In the midsize SUV class, the latest Santa Fe boasts the best technology, and safety features for the price. Compared to the Jeep Compass, Santa Fe also has more power under the hood. The price range of the Korean brand's 2022 Santa Fe is estimated around $26,000 upto $43,000 which is more than the Compass's price ranging from $24,000 to $33,000. Moreover, the amount of luxury inside the Santa Fe puts the Jeep's interior asking for an upgrade. Where the Compass's ride feels jittery, the Santa Fe ignores the rough pavements for a more supple and comfortable ride.
In addition to it, Santa Fe has more rear-seat room and cargo space whereas Jeep provides a 1.3L turbocharged inline- 4 that produces 150 hp which is less in this segment. For those looking for off-road prowess in the mid-size segment, Jeep Compass qualifies to be one of the best, especially the Trailhawk models. As an overall value-for-money SUV, the Hyundai Santa Fe is a more rounded package than the Jeep Compass.
The Honda CR-V gives a tough competition to Santa Fe as it is less expensive and has a more powerful engine with a better fuel efficiency of 30MPG (combined). Although CR-V has the maximum amount of cargo space which makes it a better option than the Santa Fe, Hyundai has the exclusive tech and features. The safety is top-notch for Santa Fe, while it only lacks the driving dynamics of Honda.
The 2021 CRV is a relatively better driving SUV but the new Santa Fe offers a more premium and all-rounded approach for a family SUV. Also, Hyundai's warranty package and complimentary maintenance are way better than any of its rivals in the mid-size SUV segment.
Hyundai made bold styling updates on the outgoing 2021 Santa Fe, thus the 2022 Santa Fe looks similar but is expected to be loaded with more standard tech. Official Pricing details are expected to be announced closer to the on-sale date, which is soon. The fourth-generation Santa Fe was only launched in 2018, but the recent update from Hyundai was extensive and made it more competitive in the class.
The outgoing Santa Fe began at $26,275 and ranged to about $43,000. Expect similar pricing for the new model year. The Snata Fe face off against tge likes of Ford Edge, Subaru Forestor, Honda CR-V, and Volkswagen Tiguan. Shoopers like the Santa Fe's fresh styling and a hybrid powertrin. Though customers willing to spend more should look for upmarket luxury in the new Calligraphy Edition. Above all, the 2022 Santa Fe is a great combination of numerous standard safety features, an improved ride and exclusive styling.
