The 2022 Nissan Murano will be offered in the same four trims as the 2021 model year - S, SV, SL, and Platinum. The 2022 Murano is expected to come with no changes as it got a redesign in the 2015 model year and a refresh in the 2019 model year. Along with this, the 2021 model year got a lot of features added, including Nissan's Safety Shield 360.

Every Nissan Murano comes with a 3.5L V6 engine and FWD as standard. There is the option of Nissan's intelligent AWD system which will cost you an additional $1,550. There are many optional extras like colors, guards, accents, towing hitches, remote start, sensors, seat belt extenders, and more. The 2022 Murano also features the Midnight Edition package that features black exterior trims.and 20-inch wheels.

Priced at an estimated $36,200, the Nissan Murano in the SV trim with FWD is the one to get as it comes well equipped with power-adjustable front row seats, 20-inch wheels, cloth upholstery, available with seat heating which we recommend opting in for, the Safety Shield 360 driver assist features, and also remote start as standard features.

The Murano is in its element on long-distance highway jaunts - Car And Driver.

As we do not expect there to be any changes in the 2022 Nissan Murano, the same powertrain and drivetrain will be carried forward from the 2021 model year. This will be a 3.5L V6 making 260 hp and 240 lb-ft of torque and it is paired to a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) which directs all the power to the front wheels.

There is the option of Nissan's Intelligent AWD system which improves traction when driving on a rough path. In terms of performance, the Nissan Murano will do 0-60 in 7.3 seconds and the quarter-mile in 15.6 seconds, which is similar to the 2021 model, as there are no changes in mechanical parts. 

The 2022 Nissan Murano has a top speed of 130 MPH. The Murano's comfort-tuned suspension makes road journeys a breeze, dampening even the worst potholes for a smooth ride. The 2022 Murano also comes with a towing capacity of 1,500 lbs. 

The Kia Sorento is the most powerful, making 281 hp and 311 lb-ft of torque. Following this is the Nissan Murano, and then comes the Ford Edge making 250 hp. The Chevrolet Blazer makes the least amount of power of 230 hp. Compared to the competition, the Nissan Murano is the fastest of the above in the 0-60 and quarter-mile.

As there are no changes in the powertrain or drivetrain, the 2022 Nissan Murano will continue to offer the same fuel economy figures of the 2021 model year - 20 mpg in the city, 28 mpg on the highway, and a combined 23 mpg. The good news is that with the intelligent AWD system the fuel economy remains the same. 

Irrespective of the drivetrain, the Murano comes equipped with a 19-gallon fuel tank which allows it to have a combined range of 437 miles. However, compared to the competition it is the shortest driving range as the competition offers better mpg numbers and similar sized fuel capacity.

The interior of the 2022 Nissan Murano is expected to be the same as the 2021 model with no major changes. The interior features manually adjustable Zero Gravity front seats with cloth upholstery and dual-zone front automatic climate control with separate rear vents. The SV trim will add power-adjustable front row seats (10-way driver, 4-way front passenger).

The SL trim will add the heating function to the front row and rear-outboard seats, LED ambient interior lighting, and leather seating. The Platinum trim adds semi-aniline leather upholstery with diamond-quilted inserts and climate-controlled front seats. The 2022 Murano will continue to offer the same amount of cargo space as the 2021 model of 32.1 cu.ft.

In terms of interior dimensions, the Murano has a lot of space on the interior, but the competition offers more space across both rows. In terms of cargo capacity, the Ford Edge offers the most cargo space of 39.2 cu.ft. In terms of infotainment, the Murano will continue to offer an 8.0-inch touchscreen integrated into the center console.

The infotainment system comes with the basics including Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Bluetooth connectivity. There are also AM/FM radio, SiriusXM satellite radio (trial), voice commands, and USB ports. The SL and Platinum trims come with a navigation system and an 11-speaker Bose sound system.

The 2022 Nissan Murano is not expected to feature any exterior design changes from the 2021 manufacture year. The exterior design comprises the three elements of Nissan's signature design language: the V motion grille, the kick in the waistline near the C pillar, and the C-shaped LED lights.

The Murano will also feature 18-inch wheels on the base and will continue to increase to 20-inch wheels on the Platinum trim, LED Fog lamps, roof rails in black or silver, dual-panel panoramic moonroof on Platinum as standard, heated exterior mirrors, and a choice of 9 exterior color options.

In terms of exterior dimensions, the Nissan Murano measures 192.8-inches in length which is 4-inches longer than the Ford Edge. The Chevrolet Blazer is the widest of the above measuring 76.7-inches in width which is 2-inches wider than the Kia Sorento which is the narrowest of the above.

The 2022 Nissan Murano has not yet been tested by the NHTSA or the IIHS. However, as we expect no changes to the Murano we can consider the 2021 model. The 2021 Murano has an overall 5-star safety rating from the NHTSA and an overall "Good" and the Top Safety Pick+ award from the IIHS.

The Murano will come equipped with many safety features and Nissan Safety Shield 360 which includes driver-assist features like Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, Blind Spot Warning, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, Lane Departure Warning, High Beam Assist, Rear Automatic Braking, and Intelligent Driver Alertness.

2022 Nissan Murano vs 2021 Ford Edge (SE)

The Ford Edge makes slightly lesser power and is marginally slower in performance as well. But the Ford Edge comes with better mpg figures and driving range along with more interior space and cargo space. However, the Ford Edge is more affordable than the Murano, making it a better option.

2022 Nissan Murano vs 2021 Chevrolet Blazer (2LT)

The Chevrolet Blazer makes lesser power, but because of the smaller displaced turbocharged engine under the hood, it gives better mpg figures and driving range than the Murano. However, the Murano offers more cargo space than the Blazer. That said, it is priced at lower than the Murano, making it a good option.

2022 Nissan Murano vs 2021 Kia Sorento (EX)

The Kia Sorento does come with the feature of three-row seating allowing for more occupants on the interior. However, in its EX trim, it comes with a more powerful engine and does come with better fuel economy as well. As it comes with three-row seating, it offers very less cargo space than the Murano. It is priced slightly more than the Murano, making it a good option.

The 2022 Nissan Murano is a carry-forward model which comes with many premium features as standard equipment, especially in terms of safety, and also has performance that is better than the competition. However, if you are looking more practicality at a more affordable rate, the Ford Edge is the one to look at.
