About 2022 Toyota Highlander

4.0

Overall Rating

Coming as a carryover model, the 2022 Toyota Highlander will boast the same 295 hp and 5,000 towing capacity for a base price of $35,205.

Walking over the 2021 model year unchanged, the 2022 Toyota Highlander rumbles loud on the lanes with its 295 horsepower. Conditioned to flash in a 6-trim lineup of the L, LE, XLE, XSE, Limited, and Platinum for a price starting at an MSRP of $35,205, it flares in 8 exterior colors and has up to 4-interior leather accents as per configuration. And, to poise its aesthetic richness, a brutal 5,000 lbs towing comes inherent for this 8-seater SUV.

Coming on to the leasing perspective of the Toyota Highlander, the expense begins at $464/month for 36 months with a $3,114 down payment considering a 12,000-mile annual range. As far as the rivalry is on the front, the emblems such as Ford Explorer, Kia Telluride and Honda Pilot throttle straight against its 3.5L V-6 ponies. Meanwhile, its Hybrid variant with an all-new Bronze Edition rounds at the corner too knocking at $38,855 with a more composed 243 hp 2.5L I-4 powertrain.

In the long lineup of configurations, the XLE with AWD layout of the 2022 Toyota Highlander is the best suited one. Having far superior traction from its FWD counterpart and added comfort seating tech-ends over its lower trims, this edition brings in the perfect grit to relish for any individual. This specific trim is also the starter of many add-ons including sunroof and improved seating surface. Hence, one sincerely enjoys the ambiance and drives with it for a reasonable price tag.

Pricing and Features
7.5/10

"This three-row ute has plenty to offer and a variety of configurations to appeal to the widest possible audience." - Car and Driver

The 2022 Toyota Highlander stars in 6 trims beginning with the L edition that costs $35,205. It features Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+ and Star Safety System as its standard safety suites with Drive Mode Select to switch modes as per driving conditions. At $37,405, the assets expand to a Blind-Spot Monitor with Rear cross-traffic alert and a height-adjustable power liftgate with jam projection for the LE configuration. After that comes the XLE at an MSRP of $40,405 for which it gets SofTex heated front seats, sunroof and 18-inch machined alloy wheels.

As the investment goes higher to $42,000 for the XSE, the sport-tuned suspension, ambient interior lighting, and 20-inch machined alloy wheels are celebrated. The real premium touch explores mainly with the leather upholstery that finds its blend in the Limited trim costing $44,360 alongside heated-ventilated front seats. It also integrates a Dynamic Navigation and 11-speaker JBL Premium Audio as its interior technology. The Platinum with enhanced Adaptive Front Lighting System, heated second row, and hands-free liftgate stands as an epitome in the hierarchy at $47,560.

"The Highlander serves its purpose as a versatile and easy-driving SUV." - Motor Trend

Spirited by a 3.5L V-6 engine, the 2022 Toyota Highlander explodes 295 hp and 263 lb-ft of torque inside those V chambers. It is coupled with 8-speed automatic transmission in an FWD layout. The Highlander has been designed with an optional AWD as well that charges an additional $1,600 for the L, LE, and XLE and an extra $1,950 for the rest of the lineup.

As soon as one opts for the AWD, the Multi-Terrain Select also summons that adjusts the traction control and pedal metal as per Mud/Sand, Rock/Dirt, and Normal modes. The Drive Mode Select, however, remains a routine irrespective of drive layout that coins among Sport, Normal, Eco, and Snow driving dynamics. And when these two sync together, the stability becomes exemplary.

Burning the rubbers while taking off from 0-60 MPH in 6.7 seconds, the Highlander tops with a 114 MPH peak speed. The quarter-mile, simultaneously, ticks 15.3 seconds on the clock with a relative speed of 93 MPH. But to limit this thumping within 167 ft, the pairs of 13.3-inch in the front and rear are deployed that are assisted by 4-wheel ABS and Brake Assist.

"Its cabin greets passengers with easy to use technology and high-quality materials." - True Car

The interior of the 2022 Toyota Highlander evolves from fabric to SofTex to leather upholstery as one tours from L to XLE to Limited configuration. The core accents for the fabric-trimmed seat retain to be Black and Graphite while the Leatherette and SofTex further add Harvest Beige alogside. It also gets you amazed when the ambient interior lighting glows up the space in the XSE and other higher editions.

Getting you at ease like any other pro, the Toyota Highlander arranges heated-ventilated seats in its Limited configuration that enjoins 2nd row heating in the Platinum variant. And the normal sunroof of the XLE is asked to leave to fit in an exclusive panoramic roof for the range-topping Platinum. Apart from all these glitters, it stays relevant with a decent cargo capacity ranging from 16 cu-ft to 84.3 cu-ft.

Echoing the songs for the millennials in that ambiance is the 6-speaker audio system that upgrades to 11-speaker JBL Premium Audio in the Limited and Platinum. "Toyota's Highlander isn't especially noteworthy in the design department." - CarBuzz

Casting no heavy metal expression on the fascia, the 2022 Toyota Highlander endorses 8 exterior paint jobs including the Moon Dust at $425 and Blueprint depending on the trim level. The long LED projector headlights with DRLs surround the black background grille. And the rear curves around the height-adjustable power liftgate for all except for L, Limited, and Platinum as the two models feature hands-free ones.

Though blown and widened to look bossy, the Toyota Highlander rages on corresponding masculine wheel setups of 18-inch and 20-inch with different finishes. For aerodynamics, it sculpts to have a rear spoiler as well with an LED stop light that improves the ground force by reducing turbulent air on the back. Also, one can opt for roof rack cross bars at $350 for XLE, XSE, Limited, and Platinum to enhance luggage management.
