About 2018 Ford Transit

3.5

Overall Rating

The Transit Cargo is a dependable hauler with lot of highlights that keep it on the ball, used by multiple businesses in America to keep it stocked.

The 2018 Ford Transit Cargo is a dependable hauler with a lot of highlights that keep it on the ball. The van is trusted by fleet operators and handymen alike. The Transit Cargo comes with standout infotainment features and a wide variety of driver’s assist tech. It also has great loading capacity and a variety of configurations to seal the deal. Pricing for the Transit starts from $33,285 and goes all the way up to $40,965.

Powering the Ford Transit is a 3.7L V-6 engine that makes 275 horsepower and 260 foot-pounds of torque. The van can tow up to a maximum of 6,200 pounds and a maximum payload of 4,530 pounds. The van is offered with either a 3.73 or a 4.10 rear differential, which can also be had in a limited-slip configuration. The Transit stands up against the RAM Promaster, the Chevrolet Express Cargo, and the Mercedes Benz Sprinter Cargo.

The engine itself is pretty well specced and offers a variety of body configurations to suit your needs. The van itself is quite well made and reliable, with great livability in the cabin. The Interior Upgrade Package at $1,435 makes sense for adding a bit of utility to the cabin, though it doesn't make sense for fleet or service cars.

Pricing and Features
6.0/10

Unlike the Passenger van, the Cargo offers very little in terms of convenience and features. However, depending on the loading capacity or the payload you wish to carry, the Transit is offered in a variety of body types. The interior accents and added features are largely the same on the lineup, with the focus on capability in ascending trims.

The Interior Upgrade Package at $1,435 makes sense for adding a bit of utility to the cabin, though it doesn't make sense for fleet or service cars.

Engine and Performance
6.8/10

The Ford Transit Cargo offers a 3.7L V-6 that in itself is rather well-tuned and powerful. The engine puts up 275 horsepower and 260 foot-pounds of torque. The engine is well made and has a pretty high revving character, though we wouldn't expect any blisteringly fast output from the van.

The gearbox is a 6-speed automatic that has been begging for an update for quite some time. There are two different rear axle ratios offered in 3.73 and 4.10, which can improve the payload and towing capability at the expense of efficiency. Overall as compared to the competition, the Ford is pretty well set up.

The Ford Transit is competitive to most of its rivals, though it is a bit underpowered as compared to the RAM Promaster and the Chevrolet Express in similar configurations. The Mercedes Benz Sprinter looks severely underpowered on paper, though with overdrive and its exceptionally proficient gearbox, even its smaller 2.0L motor can turn up some serious performance.

2018 Ford Transit Cargo Van Acceleration

Vans aren't extraordinary at speeding up considering their heavy builds and curb weight. They are built for conveyance and transport of goods with output attuned for high torque and pulling power. The Ford Transit minivan takes somewhat more than 10 seconds in the run to 60 miles, quite amazing, and shows the great amount of torque output it has.

The RAM Promaster is also decently quick, as is the Chevrolet Express and its large 4.3L engine. The Mercedes Benz Sprinter lumbers forth and offers great response, although at the expense of being a bit sluggish as compared to its competitors.

2018 Ford Transit Cargo Van Ride and Handling

You can't anticipate that a minivan should deal with balance and effortlessness like a Porsche, in any case, the Ford Transit completes a great job gobbling up knocks and undulations like breakfast. On the drawback, the hard suspension comes up short on the unbending nature. The throttle is consistent and does get up to speed well, though we wouldn't expect it to have great passing power on highways.

Regardless of the consistent suspension, it neglects to confine the lodge from potholes and road vibrations. As a fleet vehicle, the Ford is an exceptionally powerful hauler with incredible city driving just as interstate cruising. The large van feels surprisingly smaller and agile as compared to some of its competitors.

The Chevy Express comes with an older and rather clumsy frame, which has a rather sluggish braking response. The Promaster is better at stopping considering most of its weight is focused at the front. The Mercedes Benz Sprinter is the best in this aspect due to the high degree of safety and drivability the German automaker puts into the van.

Competition
7.0/10

2018 Ford Transit vs Mercedes-Benz Sprinter

The Mercedes Sprinter is bigger than most other vans in the competition. Contrary to the Ford Transit, the Sprinter is a substantially more costly alternative, however, at that cost, you show signs of improvement in the drivetrain, greater load strength, and more offices in the lodge. At a more tightly spending plan, the Ford is a consummately practical option with a littler pulling limit.

2018 Ford Transit vs Ram ProMaster City Tradesman

The Ram ProMaster is the hardest opponent the Ford Transit faces, it has more power and a bigger payload capability, the fundamental necessities of a successful hauler. In any case, Ford compensates for that with a superior cabin and innovative infotainment. Ram additionally comes up short on a diesel motor, which Ford presented for 2018. The turbo-diesel adds punchy torque to the lower revs and expands the payload limit fundamentally, settling on it as the better option.

2018 Ford Transit vs Chevrolet Express Cargo

The Chevrolet Express Cargo is a bit more on the age-old side of things, though it does make sense for people operating fleets or looking for a cheaper and no-nonsense option. Overall the van is rather sluggish and lacks both capability and space. The interiors on the Express are also quite old as compared to the Ford Transit.

Final Verdict
8.0/10

The Ford Transit, being a reliable cargo van with agreeable insides and a tech-rich lodge, is capable of attracting many potential buyers in the market. Be that as it may, as far as common sense for example load limit, Ford lingers behind the opponent minivans. Aside from that, the Ford Transit is a cutting-edge and ground-breaking minivan that can deal with any obstruction you toss at it. Given all these qualities, you'll be surprised to know that the prime feature of the Transit is its astonishing ride quality and performance.
