Amazingly quiet and smooth ride quality.

There are several irritating blind spots.

Aerodynamic side mirrors and an M emblem in the grille are new additions to the M850i

An eye-appealing and elegant exterior design.

Two packages are needed to get sophisticated driving assistance technology.

Black brake calipers, dark parts in the grille and headlights, and a black spoiler are all part of the newly optional M Sport Package Professional.

A refined and powerful engine output.

There is insufficient room for the back seats.

Buying Advice

The M850i is a standalone trim present in the entire BMW 8 Series, we like the massive power of the M850i, which is available solely with all-wheel drive and a twin-turbo V-8 engine. We also enjoy the drama that the royal and immersive drop-top version offers, despite the fact that it has a roughly $10,000 premium. The interior of the M850i is luxuriously decorated, with leather adorning nearly every surface and eye-catching details that may be combined to suit every individual's aesthetic preference. The interior trim in Aluminum Dark Trace and Cognac Merino leather are our favorites. The neck warmers in the headrests of the front seats, which will enable us to enjoy longer periods of top-down driving in our four-season state, are two extras we'd choose. For the increased driving assistance capabilities, we'd also recommend the Driver Assistance and Driver Assistance Professional packages.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

For 2023, the M850i adds an M emblem to the front and aerodynamic side mirrors from the M8 vehicles, the touchscreen expands from 10.3 to 12.3 inches inside, and the newly available M Sport Package Professional (coupe only) also adds black-painted brake calipers and a black spoiler to the M850i. For aficionados of motorsport, the M850i Coupé, which incorporates the traditional two-door body style, was created concurrently with the BMW M8 GTE endurance racer. The BMW M850i price starts around an MSRP of $102,500 and the M850i xDrive is the standalone trim option in the BMW 8 Series Coupe lineup. In this segment, it will always continue to compete against the likes of the Lexus LC 500, and the Jaguar F-Type Coupe R.

Engine and Performance
7.5/10

The BMW M850i is powered by a 4.4L BMW M TwinPower Turbo V-8 engine, which is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission that powers both axles, and it is equipped with an AWD drivetrain system. Furthermore, it can complete a 0 to 60 MPH run in 3.5 seconds while it takes 11.5 seconds to cover the quarter-mile mark. In the sportiest mode, this combination offers a satisfying soundscape and remarkable acceleration considering the size of the Bimmer. Likewise, the right foot of the driver causes the transmission to go from being relaxed to reactive. The roaring V8 sound matches the almost M8 levels of force. Except for the fundamental necessity of a V8, nothing is strictly necessary despite being incredibly alluring. Even this model destroys speed restrictions in a very sophisticated manner a steel fist in a silk glove if ever there was one. All versions have a peak speed cap of 130 MPH while using all-season tires, with the option to raise the cap to 155 MPH when using the proper summer tires.

2023 BMW M850i vs 2023 Lexus LC 500

The Lexus LC 500 is a more comfortable coupe than the M850i. But with a sizable 5.0L naturally aspirated V8 under its hood and a lavish and technically sound interior filled with high-end materials, it manages to strike a delicate balance between performance and elegance. However, the BMW M580i generates 52 hp and 155 lb-ft of torque than the Lexus LC500, and it even has a better 0 to 60 MPH acceleration in 3.5 seconds and completes the quarter-mile mark in 11.5 seconds. It is practically on par with the M850i in terms of fuel efficiency as well. Due to its inadequate trunk capacity, the LC 500 falls short in terms of usability. On the other hand, the BMW M850i boasts larger inside space, more user-friendly technology, and more cargo space than the LC 500, making it a clear winner against its counterpart.

2023 BMW M850i vs 2023 Jaguar F-Type Coupe R

The 2023 BMW M850i Coupe has shown to be a strong opponent against the 2023 Jaguar F-Type Coupe R in a race of supercars. Both have distinctive designs, strong engines, and innovative technologies that are accessible through clever controls. The Jaguar F-Type R likewise features a supercharged V8 engine, while the BMW M850i has a twin-turbocharged V8 engine, the Jaguar F Type R's horsepower output is better than the M850i (59 hp more), while it has low engine torque than the BMW M850i, and offers 2 seating capacity while the BMW M850i offers seating capacity up to four passengers, and is more advanced in terms of technology and performance. Both these competitors will satisfy most of the customers out there and choosing a clear winner between these two is a hard choice, both these coupes excel in power, par fuel efficiency, sleek design, and cargo space capacity.

Final Verdict
9.1/10

Yes, we will recommend buying the BMW M850i as the M version of the BMW 8 Series is distinguished by its strong power and exquisite agility, putting up amazing performance with each drive. This elite athlete is propelled by a V8 engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology, which offers high performance and great fuel efficiency. Furthermore, the M models from BMW offer exquisite handling and cornering agility with the help of their precisely built suspension, steering, and chassis components. Along with that, the soft-touch doors that close with a gentle touch and the programmable ambient lighting in sixty-four hues are the first signs of luxury. The crystal gear knob, combined with the use of exotic and ostentatious materials for all soft-touch surfaces, serves as the interior's focal point. The newly installed LED kidney grille has a striking initial appearance. Even though it stands out as a part of the intriguing front facelift, it continues to be a defining feature of BMW. It has all the aesthetics that represent the BMW M vehicles and it’s worth the cost.
