POWER TRAIN

This is an issue I have noticed with my car shortly after I bought it. The problem is that the car has a noticable delay in acceleration when accelerating from a complete stop. After doing some research online, I found that the cause was the car's CVT transmission, and that a delay in acceleration happens with other cars with CVT transmissions as well. This could be potentially dangerous especially when making right turns on a red light or when making unprotected lefts on a green, as the window of opportunity to go is sometimes short in those situations, and delaying for even a second could mean the difference between a collision or a safe turn (especially since there are some fast drivers that go much past the speed limit and will appear from behind a hill all of a sudden). What is especially problematic is that the car will rarely accelerate normally when I press the pedal, but I would say around 80-90% of the time, the car will have a delay about 1 second before it actually starts moving. To my knowledge, this problem has not been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center. I bought the car brand-new about half a year ago so it shouldn't have any problems. The vehicle has not been inspected by anyone, and there were no warning lights or any other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure. I didn't really notice that this car had this problem when I first drove it home from the dealership because I was not used to so many other aspects of the car, but after I got more used to driving it, I realized that the delay in acceleration wasn't normal.

LANE DEPARTURE

Ever since my vehicle was new, the driver side blind spot monitor will periodically not work. This issue occurs primarily when starting the vehicle using the Toyota app, but also will have the issue when starting the vehicle normally. When all conditions are met, the driver side blind spot monitor will fail to illuminate during an entire trip unless the driver either: turns the vehicle off and back on, or: goes into the vehicle settings while driving and turns the blind spot monitor off and then on again. Upon doing either of these things, the driver side blind spot will resume normal operation.   The issue has been confirmed by a Toyota dealership and is on file for my vehicle, and I also have video footage of the issue. While the dealership was able to witness the issue, the vehicle produces no codes and so the Toyota engineer advised it was a condition issue and not a vehicle issue. But this issue has been happening to me randomly since I got the car, and all of the facts point to this NOT being a condition issue. There are also SEVERAL other complaints on Toyota and Lexus forums for this exact same issue for varying models such as the Corolla Cross.   This is a safety risk and can increase the possibility of a crash. While blind spot monitoring is intended to be an aid and should not be solely relied upon, inevitably there are drivers who will rely on that blind spot monitoring, not know it's broken, and potentially get into a collision due to the system leading them to believe the coast is clear, when it indeed is not. The first time I noticed it, which was within one week of owning the car back in January 2024, I was trying to get over to the left, saw that the blind spot was not illuminated, and almost made the turn except I checked manually first and saw there was a vehicle in my blind spot that the car did not pick up on.   The fact that all it takes it turning the car off and on again leads me to believe this is a safety defect that needs addressed.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE

Brand new car with 300 miles jerks and jolts leaving from a stop and hesitates going up hill. Feels like car has no power behind it. Forward collision also breaks randomly. Currently at dealership.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER

ENGINE

Morning of 08/11/2024, started car and put in Sport mode. Drove under 20 mph for 3 blocks to leave neighborhood. Got to main street intersection and waited for an opening, then pressed the gas and nothing happened except the check engine light came on and dash message of Ignition On, but car was not operating. Pushed ignition button and it came on and dash cleared. Has not happened again and dealership could not replicate and no codes saved.

SERVICE BRAKES

The system that is problematic for this vehicle is the Pre Collision System (PCS). This system is way too sensitive even on the lowest sensitivity setting, and I have experienced the car braking in error on multiple occasions when driving up or down a windy road. When I approach a bend in the road and there is a car parked on the side of the street, my Corolla will think that I am about to collide with the parked vehicle and make a loud beeping noise and automatically hit the brakes. This has frightened me on a number of occasions, and I am concerned that one day the car will brake in error while there is another vehicle behind me, resulting in a read-end collision. The only consistent method of avoiding this is to drive past the median in the road when approaching bends, which I very much dislike doing, as driving in the middle of the road has its own obvious risks.   I have tried contacting the dealership about this, and was told to contact the service department. The service department was no help, saying that they aren't able to do anything about it and that I could try lowering the sensitivity of the PCS, which I had already done.   This wouldn't be such a huge issue if there was a way to permanently turn it off. The process for turning it off takes about a minute, as it requires navigating a menu and finding the PCS option to turn off. Unfortunately, the PCS automatically reactivates every time the car is turned off and on again, and even if I use the shortcut method of holding the lane assist button for several seconds to disable the PCS, the car's screen will constantly flash, telling me that the PCS is turned off and annoying the driver to turn it back on. I know that Toyota does not have this issue with their PCS systems on their other vehicles, as I have driven a 2019 Camry before and the PCS system never went off when I drove on the same road, which led me to believe that the system on this 2024 Corolla is somehow defective.

Transmission slips from 20-40 mph randomly.

I was accelerating on an on-ramp to merge with traffic on a freeway, and my corolla's engine shut itself off. All the electronics stayed on and flashed the messages âParking brake malfunction' and something along the lines of âSecondary collision brake system malfunction'. I was stuck coasting in traffic and could not start the engine in neutral. I had to make the car come to a complete stop on the freeway in a lane with no shoulder, put it in park, turn it off, and then back on again. All messages and lights disappeared. I took it to a toyota dealership the next day and they couldn't find anything. They told me they don't know what caused it and sent me on my way.

STEERING

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

My vehicle stalled when pulling out into traffic. I lost power steering and electrical and the engine died.  The vehicle had to be restarted to continue driving. I was going about 1 to 2 mph when the issue happened.  The vehicle was in motion and stalled while other vehicles were in motion  putting my safety at risk, had I been going any faster or if there was an increased amount of traffic.  I reported the problem to the dealer service center, but they were unable to reproduce it. The vehicle was inspected by Toyota only, no police or insurance.  When the issue happened, a warning light appeared on the dash similar to a circle with an exclamation mark inside.  There were no messages and no other symptoms prior to the failure.

The contact owns a 2024 Toyota Corolla. The contact stated that while driving at undisclosed speeds and decelerating, the vehicle was jerking abnormally. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer however, the dealer was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was made of the failure and a case was filed; however, the contact had not received any communication from the manufacturer. The failure mileage was 27,000.

Steeringâcar seems to slip when driving at 30mph and taking a curve. Very brief.  Traveling at 70mph car shakes.

Experiencing a high-pitched whining/ringing sound from the air conditioning system. It is highly distracting and irritating, and basically prevents the use of some fan speed settings for extended durations due to the pain it causes. Many other Corolla owners are experiencing the same issue and Toyota refuses to take action in every case, saying the problem is "characteristic of the vehicle" or something to that effect.   Issue is well-documented in this forum thread among other places.  [XXX]  See in particular post [XXX] for objective evidence of the sound and a probable root cause analysis. A particular chip resonates at about 15.7 kHz. I encourage you to put that frequency into an online tone generator to get an idea of the problem, although for some people, especially those who are older, sounds this high are inaudible like a dog whistle. EXTERIOR LIGHTING

My 2024 Carola Hybrid Headlights create blind spot in front of the car at night at 50meters to 100m by Toyota engineer design (there is a corner designed into the line of sight of the headlight). Toyota customer care and the dealer maintenance manager is saying the design is safety tested and approved. It needs to be retested at night!!! This is a clear design defect. It is especially dangerous curving left & making left turns on two way back roads and highways. Have to turn on brights to see but that creates risk to other drivers.

Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) is unstable in detecting the front car, not only in light rainy conditions but also in heavy rainy conditions. The ACC fails to detect sedans and small SUVs but can detect larger vehicles such as pickup trucks and full-size SUVs. The car does not provide any warning sound or signal to the driver when failing to detect. This poses a significant safety risk as the driver may not be aware that the system selectively detects the front car in both light and heavy rainy conditions. The driver had barely avoided the accident.

On 11/29/23 after 11:30pm, I was in the process of clearing an exit and at the tail end of the exit it felt like the car was "correcting" itself and I was unable to stay turning right. The steering wheel felt locked and I was unable to control the car. The car impacted the guardrail and I was able to regain control after the initial impact.   -This is a BRAND NEW car with less than 100 miles at the time of the accident. - Prior to the collision, there were no warning signals from the dashboard.  - I was not injured from the accident as I was only able to go around 27-33mph due to a tractor trailor clearing the exit in front of me. No others were involved. - The manufacturer sent an inspector to look at the vehicle and test drive it. However, they did not test drive in the same conditions I was in or at. - The issue was not reproduced by another party.  (Photos were taken the next day)

The contact owns a 2024 Toyota Corolla. The contact stated while driving at undisclosed speeds at night, the left lane was blocked out by the headlights. There was a huge shadow obstructing the driver's view. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, who was unable to determine there was a failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that the vehicle was designed that way, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 3.

2024 Toyota Corolla SE Low beam headlights have shadows on the driver's side that hang down and obstruct the roadway especially on curves. This is very hazardous and only remedy is to switch to high beams. This issue causes  me to either not be able to see the roadway adequately or blind oncoming traffic with high beams. This is an issue on my 2023 as well. Toyota has stated it is normal and as designed. I disagree. Not being able to adequately see the road with low beams is not normal. The problem is better or worse depending on orientation of the road. Shadows on Curves are much worse.

STRUCTURE

Some 2005 â 2024 Toyota vehicles that have undergone water intrusion may exhibit a condition in which a musty odor is present. Follow the procedures in this bulletin to remediate the odor and address this condition. The purpose of this Service Bulletin is to provide general guidelines and procedures for odor remediation. Some 2020 â 2024 model year Corolla vehicles may exhibit a vibration or rattle noise from the right-hand engine mounting insulator sub-assembly. This condition will usually go away when the engine Revolutions Per Minute (RPM) are above idle. This condition is typically found on vehicles in warm climates/weather. No Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) are associated with this condition. This condition does not affect the operation of the vehicle.

Acid rain results from rainwater or other airborne moisture that become acidic due to industrial chemical impurities in the atmosphere. If these acidic compounds settle on an exposed vehicle, especially the horizontal areas such as the hood, roof, and decklid, significant damage to the painted surfaces can occur. Acid rain damage can typically be identified on vehicles by the presence of stains on the paint surface that resemble hard water spots. Unlike water spots however, acid rain damage cannot be removed by regular washing procedures. Also, because acid rain can etch and soften the paint, normal buffing or polishing repair procedures should not be attempted. This can cause further damage and result in visible depressions in the paint surface. 

The following are the three major categories of acid rain damage: 
â¢Minor damage: requires only buffing to repair. 
â¢Moderate damage: usually requires neutralizing, color sanding, and buffing. 
â¢Severe damage: extending beyond 1/2 mil of clearcoat on a pearl, metallic, or solid color, requires neutralization, sanding, and repainting. 

In cases where acid rain damage is minor, neutralization and buffing with a liquid-type paint finessing product may provide an adequate repair. Only specially formulated products outlined in this bulletin should be used for that purpose. 
Unfortunately, other than minor damage, there is no simple method of determining the actual extent (depth) of acid penetration other than color sanding a representative affected area until there is no visible etching or depressions, followed by measuring the amount of paint removed with either a magnetic or digital-type film thickness gauge. The procedures in this bulletin are intended for use by qualified body/paint technicians and should not be attempted by inexperienced personnel. 

It is the dealer's responsibility to protect and maintain the quality of the vehicle's paint finish after receipt at the dealership prior to the first sale. Perform frequent vehicle washing, as often as daily, during high heat and humidity periods to minimize the potential for paint damage due to acid rain exposure. This is especially important in geographical areas known for high frequency and concentration of acid rain and industrial fallout.

To prevent brake rotor rust from forming during transportation and storage, wheel film will be used instead of a cardboard type of anti-rust cover. The purpose of the wheel film is to shield the disc brake rotor from weather elements and initial rust before the vehicle is delivered to the customer. Consequently, the film should remain on the wheel for as long as possible.

The condition known as acid rain is caused by airborne chemicals or particles in the atmosphere, which mix with rainwater, nighttime dew, or high humidity to form acidic compounds. If these contaminants settle and remain on a painted vehicle surface, especially the horizonal areas of the hood, roof, and decklid, significant damage can occur. This damage is the result of actual etching of the paint and appears as pitting or water spots. As acid rain droplets on the vehicle surface evaporate, the concentration strength of the acid increases, causing deeper and more rapid damage. This evaporation and corrosive action also occur more rapidly on dark colored cars as direct sun heat increases.

It is the dealer's responsibility to protect and maintain the quality of the vehicle's paint finish after receipt at the dealership prior to the first sale. In areas known for high frequency and/or concentration of acid rain (see Figure 1), frequent vehicle washing during high heat or humidity periods will minimize the potential for paint damage caused by acid rain. It is further recommended that either reverse osmosis or deionized water be used to prevent water spotting.

Toyota vehicles are currently protected with RapgardTM protective film designed to protect the horizontal painted surfaces. This material protects from acid rain, environmental fallout, and rail contamination.

Vehicles may occasionally be subjected to contamination by airborne iron particles shed from railroad tracks, train wheels, exposure to heavy machinery facilities, grinding, welding, etc.
This type of contamination can be identified by the presence of small, red or brown particles on the paint surface. These particles are often difficult to see on dark color paints but can be easily felt when brushing a hand across horizontal body surfaces such as the hood, roof, or deck lid.

Some 2023 â 2024 model year Corolla and Corolla Cross vehicles with M20A-FKS engines may exhibit a MIL ON condition with Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P11EA00 (Bank 1 Air-Fuel Ratio Imbalance (Port)) present. There are no drivability issues or other symptoms associated with this condition.

While Toyota paint quality, durability, and resistance to environmental factors is continuously being improved, it remains the responsibility of the dealer to protect and maintain the vehicle's paint finish from the time of arrival at the dealership until retail delivery to the customer. In areas known for high frequency and/or concentration of acid rain (see Figure 1), frequent vehicle washing during high heat or humidity periods will minimize the potential for paint damage caused by acid rain. It is further recommended that either reverse osmosis or deionized water be used to prevent water spotting.

Some 2021 â 2024 model year Toyota vehicles may require the download and installation of vehicle specific software or configuration software when the Electronic Control Unit (ECU) is replaced. GTS+ software has been modified to indicate when configuration software is required. A new Configure column has been added to the GTS+ Health Check Results screen to show when configuration software is available for a specific ECU.

Customers have expressed concerns about the performance of Qi Wireless Chargers.
Wireless chargers on applicable vehicles are designed to work with Qi Certified devices only.
MagSafe devices, that are not Qi Certified, may not charge as expected with Qi Wireless Chargers.

When certain vehicle ECUs are replaced, the ECU Security Key must be written in order for that ECU to communicate on the vehicle network. The GTS+ Software Health Check Results screen has been enhanced to help identify if a replacement ECU requires an ECU Security Key.

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING

This is to advise of various price adjustments that will affect Toyota Genuine Motor Oil and Long Life Coolant, effective March 1, 2024. These products are ordered through the Toyota Complete Maintenance Care (TCMC) website.

TSB: The Immobilizer and Smart Key Reset is a feature that allows the registration of new keys when all master keys are lost. Once the system is reset, all previously registered keys will be erased and can never be reused. Another feature, Add/Remove Key, is also available. Once a key is removed, it can never be reused.

EQUIPMENT

TSB: Long-term or off-site storage requires special care to keep vehicles factory fresh and ready for delivery. The following guidelines should be performed to minimize vehicle component/part degradation due to extended vehicle storage conditions. Long-term storage can affect a vehicle?s systems and components. Any problems that are found should be corrected immediately.

FUEL SYSTEM, DIESEL

TSB: Hybrid vehicles (HV) and battery electric vehicles (BEV) are equipped with two types of batteries: 
?Hybrid vehicle (HV) battery. 
?Auxiliary (12V) battery. 

If a hybrid or battery electric vehicle is put into storage, the State-Of-Charge (SOC) of its HV battery and auxiliary battery will gradually decrease. To prevent the auxiliary battery from becoming discharged during storage, proper maintenance is necessary. 

As a matter of policy, Toyota does not provide battery warranty coverage for discharged and/or failed batteries due to lack of maintenance. It is the dealer?s responsibility to maintain the specified SOC of the vehicle?s battery while in stock and ensure proper SOC at delivery. 

Perform the following maintenance service for the HV battery and auxiliary battery.

TIRES

TSB: During the manufacturing process, tires are mounted on the vehicle as matched sets to help reduce conditions such as pulling or drifting. If the wheels are replaced or refinished before vehicle delivery, it is important that the tires remain on the vehicle in the same location and in the same direction of rotation.

Refer to the Tire Positioning Procedure in this bulletin to ensure that the original tires stay in the same location on the vehicle.

SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC

TSB: Some 2018 ? 2024 model year Toyota vehicles equipped with an A25A-FKS, A25A-FXS, M20A-FKS, or M20A-FXS engine may exhibit one or more of the following conditions: 
?Milky/discolored engine oil. 
?An ?Oil Pressure Low? warning message on the Multi-information Display (MID). 
?A MIL ON condition with Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) P05202A (Engine Oil Pressure Sensor/Switch ?A? Signal Stuck in Range) and/or P052477 (Engine Oil Pressure Too Low [Severe]) present. 

Moisture from blow-by gases condenses and accumulates in the engine oil during short trips in extreme cold weather. When the moisture in the oil freezes, the oil pressure may drop, and the aforementioned warning indicators may display. Follow the procedures in this bulletin to address these conditions.

TSB: 2024 model year Toyota vehicles are equipped with driver side floor mat retainers to secure the floor mat in the correct position. In addition, some models may also utilize retainers for passenger side and rear seat floor mats. During Pre-Delivery Service (PDS), follow the appropriate Installation Procedure to attach the driver side, and if applicable, the passenger side and rear seat floor mats to the vehicle carpet using the floor mat retainers. If installation instructions are included in the floor mat kit, place the instructions in the vehicle?s glove box for customer reference.

TSB: A battery in a stored vehicle is subject to conditions that can reduce its performance and service life. These conditions include storage period, temperature, parasitic drain, and battery load. Because of these factors, battery inspection and maintenance are required in order to ensure proper operation and optimal battery life.

As a matter of policy, Toyota does not provide battery warranty coverage for discharged and/or failed batteries due to lack of maintenance. It is the dealer?s responsibility to maintain the specified State-Of-Charge (SOC) of the vehicle?s battery while in stock and ensure proper SOC at delivery.

To eliminate customer service concerns due to an undercharged battery during the first few weeks of ownership, All dealers should test the auxiliary (12V) battery and recharge, if necessary, no more than 48 hours before delivery to the customer.

TSB: Some 2020 ? 2024 model year Corolla vehicles may exhibit a vibration or rattle noise from the right-hand engine mounting insulator sub-assembly. This condition will usually go away when the engine Revolutions Per Minute (RPM) are above idle. This condition is typically found on vehicles in warm climates/weather. No Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) are associated with this condition. Follow the Repair Procedure in this bulletin to improve this condition.

This bulletin contains the PDS procedures that apply specifically to 2024 model year Corolla, Corolla Hatchback, and Corolla Hybrid vehicles. A universal PDS Check Sheet that contains PDS steps that apply to all 2024 model year Toyota vehicles has been developed. To properly perform a complete PDS, you must complete all procedures contained in this TSB as well as the universal PDS Check Sheet.

TT: A very small percentage of customers experience operational difficulties with some telematics features which they cannot resolve on their own. These resources, in conjunction with the Repair Manual, are for dealership personnel to assist those customers with user issues, user errors, and compatibility issues with other vehicle systems and external applications encountered while operating telematics features.

Incorrect Weight Capacity Label/FMVSS 110

Gulf States Toyota, Inc. (GST) is recalling certain Toyota 2023 GR Supra, 2024 4 Runner, Corolla, Grand Highlander, Grand Highlander Hybrid, Land Cruiser Hybrid, Tacoma, Tacoma Hybrid, 2023-2024 BZ4X, Corolla Cross Hybrid, GR Corolla, GR86, Highlander, Highlander Hybrid, Prius, Prius Prime, Sequoia Hybrid, Tundra, Tundra Hybrid, Venza Hybrid, 2023-2025 Crown, and 2025 Camry Hybrid vehicles equipped with GST accessories.  The load carrying capacity modification label may display inaccurate added weight values.  As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 110, "Tire Selection and Rims."

2024 Toyota Corolla Problems and Complaints | CARHP

I love this car, it's been so great. I took it to Tuscon and it was a great ride. I love all the extra stuff it has, sun roof, tinted wo down, comfortable seats. We also had a great time at the place we bought it. The Toyota dealership in Avondale az, 2nd car we have bought from them. We found it pretty easy, looking was made easy, everything buying was easy. I'm happy to have this car, I like it for my family.Wr plan to buy more Toyotas in future.

Our Corolla is awesome. The best feature is the mileage, we get over 40 miles to the gallon. The response to the gas pedal is amazing. It is a smaller-sized coupe and has issues with tall people being comfortable. The ride is a little bumpy but the performance of this car is second to none. To top it off the price was reasonable compared to other new vehicles.
