The Land Rover Range Rover is priced at an MSRP of $79,685 and comes into competition with the BMW X5, Porsche Cayenne, and Mercedes-Benz GL550.

The 2011 Land Rover Range Rover continues its practice of giving us one of the most comfortable and capable SUVs on the plant, not to mention it looks good as well. Powering the SUV is a 5.0 liter V8 which makes 375 hp and can do the 0-60 in 6.4 seconds, and as well as go off-roading without any issues.

The supercharged trim gets a supercharged version of the same engine which makes 510 hp and 461 foot-pounds of torque. Both engines are paired with a six-speed automatic transmission which directs all the power to the four-wheel-drive system.

Being a Land Rover it also comes with off-road abilities and the Range Rover has the latest rain response to which allows you to set up the mechanical parts (engine, suspension, etc) according to the terrain you are traveling on. When properly equipped the Range Rover can tow up to 7,700 pounds.

The Land Rover Range Rover offers the least amount of legroom in the front row and in the back row. However, the seating position is quite upright and there is an adequate amount of space. In terms of cargo capacity, the Land Rover Range Rover offers most of the above cars.

  • Front row power-adjustable seats
  • Heated seats (available rear-seat heating)
  • Leather upholstery
  • Wood accents
  • Tri-zone automatic climate control

How intuitive is the Infotainment unit in the 2011 Land Rover Range Rover?

The same is available in the Supercharged as standard. But as part of the optional Autobiography pack, you get rear-seat entertainment with a 19-speaker audio system and HD radio.

Exterior
9.0/10

The exterior of the Land Rover Range Rover is bulky, stylish, and classy at the same time. We do like the boxy frame of the SUV and it has some sharp lines as well as high ground clearance which increases once you select your terrain. The exterior of the Range Rover features a heated windshield and rear windshield, 19-inch wheels, a sunroof, and power-folding mirrors.

Available are 20-inch wheels on the HSE. The Supercharged trim has these as stock and comes with the option of 20” wheels in black, black paint, and unique black exterior trim pieces as part of the autobiography black package.

In terms of exterior dimensions, the Land Rover Range Rover is longer than the Porsche Cayenne, and the BMW X5 but is shorter in length than the Mercedes-Benz GL550. It is also wider than its competition and taller as well. This does lead to its weight, making this the heaviest of the above SUVs.

  • Heated front and rear windshield
  • 19-inch wheels
  • Sunroof
  • Power folding mirrors
  • Available 20” wheels

Safety
9.5/10

The NHTSA and the IHS have not yet crashed tested the new Land Rover Range Rover. We expect the Range Rover to have good scores from both organizations. The Land Rover Range Rover comes with many safety features including a standard, some of these are:

  • 4-wheel electronic traction control
  • All-terrain anti-lock brakes
  • Electronic brake force distribution
  • Brake assist
  • Roll stability control
  • Front and rear crumple zones
  • Front and rear parking sensors
  • A rearview camera

Final Verdict

The Land Rover Range Rover is a good balance of looks, abilities, comfort, and luxury, characteristics together are rare in an SUV. There is a good amount of power from a 5 liter V8 and if that is not enough, a supercharged version of the same engine is available. There are also plenty of customization options available and those include options to increase your comfort even more. This is why we recommend buying this car.
