Buying a large SUV without the all-wheel-drive would not make justice to the car and hence the xDrive 35i should be the preferred choice as it also features most of the necessary luxury features and some more and the higher trim elevates the price considerably. 

The 2015 BMW X5 is available with three engine options, a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-6 engine and a 4.4L 445 hp twin-turbo V8 engine, and a diesel mill producing 255 hp. The base 3.0-liter engine produces 300 horsepower and 300 lb-ft of torque, which is sent to the rear wheels as standard through an 8-speed automatic transmission.

An all-wheel-drive drivetrain is also available for an additional $2,300. The X5 manages to achieve 60 mph in 6 seconds flat, while the quarter-mile is covered in just 14.6 seconds even with the base V6 engine.

Both the Audi Q7 and the Mercedes ML 350 are more affordable than the X5 but both have a lower engine output. The gas tank is on the smaller side at 22.4 gallons, and yet the X5 manages to be driven for around 600 miles out on the highway.

At the front, the Audi Q7 offers the best legroom, whereas the X5 has wider seats and has a superior headroom. The Mercedes ML 350 offers the best overall space in this comparison as the X5 has limited legroom at the back while the Q7 lacks space as it has to make space for an additional third row of seats.
