Overall Rating
The large crossovers provide the option of hauling large groups of people or large cargo items most quickly and affordably, and the Chevy Traverse is one such large crossover that is one of the best in the market today.
The 2015 Chevrolet Traverse retains the attitude of its predecessor with the same 281 hp 3.6L V-6 engine alongside a new Siri Eye Free technology. Ramping with the LS, 1LT, 2LT, and LTZ configurations, its trim lineup comes empowered with a 2,000 lbs towing capacity and a payload of up to 1,764 lbs for a price range of $34,670-$44,810.
With an efficiency of 19 MPG fuel economy while carrying 116.3 cu-ft of cargo volume, the Chevrolet Traverse vouches for its impressive credibility. Moreover, it relishes the mark of a 7-8 seater SUV in the space while going straight against the likes of the Dodge Durango, Ford Explorer, and Honda Pilot. Â
Although the base LS trim does offer a good amount of practicality, opting for the 1LT trim will add even more functionality while also raising the prices to a bare minimum. The 1Lt trim comes with a variety of features like rear parking sensors, 8-way power driver seat, emergency braking assist, and more to become a value for money offering in the lineup.

The 2015 Chevrolet Traverse is sold in four trims with an option to choose from the FWD and AWD drivetrain. There is only one engine on offer, and even the base LS trim does a good job at offering high levels of features and equipment. Going up the trim ladder adds more creature comforts and luxury elements to the Traverse, which also elevates the price considerably.

The 2015 Chevy Traverse is offered with a single engine, a 3.6-liter V6 churning out 281 hp and 266 lb-ft of torque. The engine is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission only. The power is set to the front wheels as standard and one can also opt for the AWD setup if need be.
The performance from this engine is decent, but it is nothing groundbreaking as such, as the 0-60 sprint is done in 8.1 seconds while the 16.4 seconds for quarter-mile and the 2,000 lbs of towing capacity are also just average.

The Honda Pilot is the most affordable offering in this comparison, but it has the lowest engine output to offer, which translates to lethargic acceleration performance. The Ford Explorer is the quickest of the lot, while the Dodge Durango has the highest towing capacity, which is 2.5 times that of the other crossovers here.
The large brawny engines aren’t as efficient as the four-cylinder or turbocharged ones, and the Chevy Traverse is also not as frugal as one would want it to be. The EPA rates the 2015 Traverse for 17 mpg in the city and 24 mpg out on the highway, while the combined city and highway is rated for just 19 mpg. The 22-gallon fuel tank does offer a decent driving range of about 419 miles on a single tank of gas.

The Honda Pilot stays true to its Japanese origins and is the most frugal of the lot, while the Traverse has the highest fuel consumption here. The Dodge Durango and the Ford Explorer have almost the same fuel efficiency figures of 20 mpg combined, but the Durango employs a much larger gas tank, which aids in providing a much longer driving range.
The 2015 Traverse employs high-quality materials right from the base trim and is also neatly designed, which is a lot more attractive than before.
There is sufficient space on offer for all the passengers and their luggage, but the rearward visibility is hindered when loaded with the people and isn’t that great when empty as well. The available cargo space is enough to be able to move houses with just this car alone and is one of the best in the segment.Â

The Dodge Durango and the Ford Explorer have a marginally lower space in the front seat, but the second and third row of seats are a bit more spacious than the Traverse. The Explorer is the most spacious, while the Honda Pilot has the most cramped cabin to offer. There is no competition to the cargo capacity on offer with the Traverse and is the best in this comparison, offering an overall capacity of 116.3 cubic feet. Major interior features include-Â
The 6.5-inch MyLink infotainment screen is placed a bit too low on the dashboard, and hence, quick glances while driving are a difficult task.
The touch sensitive buttons surrounding the screen aren’t as functional as well, while the erratic touch responses of the infotainment system also spoil the experience inside the cabin. The SUV comes with a wide range of tech inside. Few key features include-
The 2015 Chevy Traverse is a smart looking crossover, and Chevrolet has smartly designed it by not going over the top with the macho and butch design as is the trend nowadays.
The sleek headlamps with minimalistic split front grille do look handsome, while the roof rails and the tasteful chrome elements also add to the appeal of the car. The SUV weighs 4,647 lbs and stands 7.2 inches above the ground.

The Honda Pilot is the most compact amongst all the cars present here, and hence, is also the lightest one here. The Traverse is the longest and widest car in this comparison, but the Dodge Durango offers a longer wheelbase and is also the heaviest. It also has the best ground clearance to offer as the Traverse has the lowest ride height here. Major exterior highlights of the Traverse are-
The 2015 Chevrolet Traverse offers a decent amount of safety features and driver aids which helps it score a perfect 5-star overall rating in the crash test of the NHTSA, while it also performs well in the crash test conducted by the IIHS. The list of standard and available safety and driver assistance features is pretty extensive, and a highlight of which is listed below.
The Chevrolet Traverse may not be the most affordable offering in the segment, but it looks a lot fresher than its rivals, and the available cabin space on offer is something that nobody comes even close to. Add to that the high safety standards and extensive features list, the Traverse becomes an exciting prospect, provided you are ready to live with the erratic MyLink system.
