Overall Rating
The Durango has a wide variety of trims as well along with the R/T trim that comes with a Hemi V8. From the availability of a V8 motor to its versatility both in terms of comfort and performance the Durango makes it hard not to like it.
The 2016 Dodge Durango is a classic family mover, with space, convenience, and performance. The SUV comes with a powerful engine right from the lower trims, and even has an R/T variant, which features Dodge’s classic HEMI V-8. The car offers solid performance in the higher trims and can even tow a significant amount of loads with its big V-8s. The Durango stands up to competitors like the Honda Pilot and the Toyota Highlander.
Apart from an intimidating road presence and performance, the SUV offers adequate practicality to qualify as a daily driver too. There is adequate seating space in every row, and it can be had in a three-row configuration as well. The base V-6 motor makes 293 horsepower, while the V-8 is good for 360 horsepower. Even though the SUV is not as frugal as some of its competitors, it boasts a distinctly American character and has the traits of a perfect family car.

While the Dodge Durango is not the quickest amongst the competitors, its acceleration times are at par with a majority of the rivals. The Honda Pilot takes the back seat here in terms of acceleration times. The Toyota Highlander surprises with its performance despite having the least amount of power and torque figures on tap.

The fuel efficiency has thoroughly improved over last year’s variant of the Durango. There is a new start-stop system on the V-6 motor, which does a great job at minimizing the car’s emissions. The 2016 Dodge Durango can go for 19 mpg in cities, 27 on highways, and 22 mpg combined. The larger V-8 motor gives 14 mpg in cities, 23 on highways, and 17 mpg combined.

The Durango is fitted with a large 24.6-gallon fuel tank, which is better than almost any of its competitors. The car is good to go for about 580 miles on a full tank of gas, which is much more than any of its competitors. Both the Toyota Highlander and the Honda Pilot offer near-to-identical fuel economy figures as the Durango but the Highlander offers the least overall driving range.
The 2016 Dodge Durango interior will give a clear message that it is made to take on long road trips. The cabin offers adequate space for 7 passengers and even has optional captain chairs in the second row. The cabin is full of storage spaces and will easily satiate any of your storage needs.
The interiors are simple and have a variety of accents and trimming to ensure they look like what you pay for. The overall design is far from stylish but gets all the basics right which is of utmost importance in a family mover. The interior panels are made of robust quality materials but the overall fit and finish levels need improvement and we firmly believe that Dodge will do it eventually.

There is adequate leg-room in every single row of the Dodge Durango. With both rows down, the car offers 84.5 cubic feet of storage, which is very competitive for the segment. With the third row down, the storage space is around 47.7 cubic feet. Overall it also offers the plushest seats in the third row, and similarly great legroom. The Honda Pilot has a better-looking cabin and higher comfort levels than the Durango and also offers the best cargo space as well. The Toyota Highlander also has a less crude cabin than the Durango yet offers a solid build quality with adequate comfort for all the passengers and a decent list of features as well.
Some standout interior features are:
The Uconnect infotainment system offered by Dodge is much better than what its competitors have. The standard system is user-friendly, though the larger 8.4-inch touchscreen is much better.
It has large virtual icons and logical menus that are quite easy to operate. There are physical buttons to go to high-use settings. Some standout features are:
The 2016 Dodge Durango is one of the meanest-looking three-row SUVs in the market. It has a traditional posture that attracts the eyes through its design language. The slicker unibody design is nifty like a crossover as well as imposing and large as an SUV.
The front fascia features the classic crosshair grille. The exteriors are monochrome and even have dual exhaust to help with the looks. Overall it is quite a handsome car.

The Durango is much larger than either the Honda Pilot or the Toyota Highlander. The car is also quite heavy even in the base trim. The width is one facet in which its competitors seem to be larger. Overall with better ground clearance and a longer wheelbase, the Durango seems the largest car in the competition. Some standout exterior features:
The Uconnect with the 8.4-inch screen system offers emergency assistance and stolen vehicle tracking. The safety and convenience package includes blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic alert.
The R/T and Citadel trims have a technology package that adds a forward collision warning. The previous year of the Durango received a 4/5 star rating by the NHTSA. The IIHS on the other hand has given it generally good scores. Some standout safety features include:
Dodge Durango vs Toyota Highlander
The Toyota Highlander is a robust and extremely value-for-money vehicle in the segment. It might fall behind in terms of power and fuel economy numbers, but it surprises with its acceleration numbers which are practical yet slightly better than the Dodge Durango. The Highlander also offers close enough fuel economy ratings to the Durango and is a better-looking vehicle as compared to the Durango.
Dodge Durango vs Honda Pilot
The Honda Pilot is one of the most handsome-looking and practical vehicles in the segment. The Pilot offers a similar fuel economy to the Durango but the interior is more than adequately spacious and the SUV offers the best cargo capacity within the list as well.
The 2016 Durango is a big and but American SUV and has been tailored to fit perfectly for traveling families. The interiors are spacious and include a handsome list of features as well. The seats are comfortable and well supportive. The engine also is quite responsive, and the larger V-8 option effectively makes the SUV a muscular one. The towing capacity of the SUV is also better than all of its competitors. Overall the 2016 Dodge Durango is a convincing deal and definitely worth consideration.
