The XT5 carries a 3.6-liter naturally aspirated V6 engine under its hood that has been present with the brand for a very long time. This big block is able to produce 310 horsepower and 271 lb.-ft. of torque. The engine is further coupled to an 8-speed automatic transmission, which transfers the power to the front wheels on the lower trims, while it shares it with all four as we walk up the table. As mentioned in the beginning, the XT5 houses an under tuned powertrain, as can be observed from the likes of its rivals.

The XT5 lacks behind all the other cars in terms of power, but it's more than 15 grand cheaper than the SQ5 and Macan S. Infiniti QX comes at 5 grand cheaper than XT5 but still produces more power than the XT5. Perhaps, it is time for Cadillac to redeem the turbocharged lineup of engines that have been long-awaited now.
2017 Cadillac XT5 Acceleration
As you might have gathered by now, the XT5 might offer slower acceleration than the competition, because of the less powerful engine. Cadillac does a 0-60 mph in 6.6 seconds, compared to sub-6 second timings achieved by other cars. The engine provides enough power to the crossover making it sweep across the tight corners and highways.

The Infiniti QX50 does 0-60 mph in 5.8 seconds and the Audi SQ5, Porsche Macan achieve it in 5.1 seconds because of a 3.0-liter turbo engine. XT5 doesn't come with a turbocharged and supercharged engine. Meanwhile, the Infiniti QX50 pulls off 60 MPH in 5.8 seconds, still more than the Cadillac.
2017 Cadillac XT5 Braking Performance
The Cadillac XT5 has got firm brake pedals and good stopping ability. Brakes in this car are really good and bring you from 60 mph to down to a standstill in just 128 feet of distance, considering that the car weighs less than the competition. The 13.6” of pure steel, ventilated discs on the front and 12.4 on the rear are complemented with a set of four-piston calipers to achieve this stopping time. However, the rigid dynamics and an unhygienic shape substantially sabotage XT5’s image in front of the rivals.

From the table, it is ascertained that the Cadillac is pretty light in weight, Despite that, it is the slowest to come to a halt. Yes, it has all the systems responsible for effective braking, but what matters here are the mechanics. The soft suspension on the SUV tends to transfer more weight to the front axle while the comparatively small brake discs are not enough to handle the torque.
2017 Cadillac XT5 Ride and Handling
The XT5 is quite slick in terms of handling and maneuverability. Although it comes with a soft suspension setup, a lowered center of gravity aids cornering at higher speed with minimum roll. Moreover, it also helps in a better grip against the pavement, irrespective of the tires that are in use. However, a softer suspension does hold its own drawbacks. On irregular pavements, especially, the Cadillac tends to transfer fewer amounts of judder but throws a larger pothole, and the vehicle just dives in completely. Also, driving on such roads calls for periodic maintenance more often
The driving experience in the XT5 is one of the good ones. Around the turns, the XT5 feels sharp and in proper control. The crossover has got a few tricks up its sleeve to save some fuel. The V6 engine shuts down its two cylinders when extra power is not needed. The engine is quiet and you don't hear the growling unless you push hard on that pedal. It stays calm on the busy roads but might scare the crap out of your cat if you put a paddle to the metal.
