Although every trim level of Cadillac XT5 has its own value for money proportion. Still, we would like to recommend the Premium Luxury trim that gets ample amounts of standard features along with justified pricing. We'd also suggest you get the optional V6 powertrain that costs an additional $1000 but equips the SUV with more power and potential. We'd also go ahead and advise you to stick with the FWD drivetrain and  get the optional AWD only if you need all-weather capabilities.

The 2021 Cadillac XT5 offers 2 engine options - a base 2.0L Turbocharged Inline-4 and a 3.6L V6. The 2.0L engine is good for 235 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque, while the V6 pumps up the figures to 310 hp and 271 lb-ft of torque. The base Luxury trim gets only the 2.0L engine, the mid-tier Premium Luxury trim gets a standard 2.0L and an upgradable 3.6L, while the range-topping XT5 Sport gets the 3.6L V6 as standard. 

Both the engine options come mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission. FWD is offered as standard on the Luxury and Premium Luxury trims while AWD is optional, whereas, the Sport trim gets AWD as standard. The body roll in the XT5 is well composed yet the mid-trim level is meant to offer more luxurious ride quality. The XT5 offers a light steering response while driving at low speeds. The standard independent rear suspension makes sure that the compact SUV gets through bad roads with ease. The Sport models come with adaptive suspension and bigger 20-inch wheels. 

The 2021 Cadillac XT5 with its base 2.0L engine can go from 0-60 mph in 7.6 seconds and has a claimed top speed of 130 MPH. Meanwhile, the more potent 3.6L V6 propels the XT5 from 0-60 mph in 6.7 seconds. The shorter gear ratios of the XT5 result in quicker shifts and linear acceleration. Both the powertrains offer a compliant ride within the city, but once you hit the highway and go hard on the throttle, the engine's harshness is quite evident. 

Speaking of rivals, when it comes to sheer power, the Infiniti QX50 leads the charts with its 2.0L Turbo-4 engine belting out 268 hp and 280 lb-ft of torque. The Volvo XC60's 250 hp 2.0L Turbo-4 slots in the second spot, followed closely by the BMW X3 which is rated at 248 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque, while the XT5's 2.0L engine sits at the bottom of the chart.

The 2021 Cadillac XT5's unstressed engine and linear gearbox make way for impressive efficiency. The 2021 Cadillac XT5 with its base 2.0L engine and FWD drivetrain is rated at city/highway/combined mpg of 22/29/24. Bringing in the optional AWD drivetrain brings these figures down to 21/27/23. 

Whereas, an XT5 equipped with the more potent 3.6L V6 engine is good for city/highway/combined mpg of 18/26/21. The BMW X3's mpg and Infiniti QX50's mpg are at par with each other and lead the way with 26 mpg combined. The XT5 slots in next, while the XC60 is the least fuel-efficient offering in this comparison, returning a combined 23 mpg.
