The first thing you will notice about the all-new Nissan Quest Minivan is its gigantic size. However, it looks bigger than it actually is. Powered by a V6 engine, it is the only minivan offering from Nissan. If you are looking for a family minivan with a decent engine and good fuel efficiency, the Quest can be the car for you.
The 2017 Nissan Quest starts at a base price of $27,500 and is cheaper for a minivan than most of its competitors but still provides us with a decent overall p[erformance. It is not the most powerful or quick on acceleration, but the Quest manages to fulfill its primary purpose. It can carry up to seven passengers and provides a decent amount of space for the front row passengers. Let us take a look at how the Quest performs when compared to its competitors.
Most of the features of the 2017 Quest are unchanged from last year's version. It comes in 4 trims, which are the base S trim priced at $ 27,500, a little pricier SV trim priced at $ 31,500, the SL trim priced at $ 35,500, and the top-of-the-line Platinum trim priced at $ 44,170. One of the main complaints with the new Quest is that the base S trim comes with very few features such as power windows only on the front doors, very basic infotainment system with 4 speakers, which is inadequate for a minivan. Alloy wheels are also absent, and the materials used in the interiors are cheap. No leather or soft-touch material is covering the steering wheel, and the seats are also covered with cloth.

The higher versions are reasonably loaded as per their pricing. But the absence of leather seats along with heating capability in the SV trim can deter a lot of potential buyers. Other manufacturers offer similar features within a lesser price range. The only trim capable of being called a saving grace in terms of comfort and features is the top-end Platinum trim.
We Recommend
We recommend the SL trim as it is reasonably priced as compared to the features it comes with. The top of the line Platinum trim is way too expensive for a family minivan. The trims add heated seats in the front along with leather upholstery. The 18-inch alloy wheels are a plus over the 16-inch on the SV trims. Thus at a price of $35,500, the Nissan Quest SL provides great value.
Powering all the trims of the 2017 Quest is the 3.5L V6 engine. It is quite decent for the price and segment. It produces a maximum horsepower of 260 at 6,000 rpm and torque of 240 lb-ft at 4,400 rpm. The engine is mated with a continuously variable transmission, which provides seamless shift and thus a pleasant driving experience.
However, all the competitors of the Quest come with a more powerful engine. Hence, if you are one of those people who like a high-performance engine, we suggest you look elsewhere.

The 2017 Toyota Sienna is the most powerful vehicle in comparison which provides a power output of 296 hp. It is followed by the Chrysler Pacifica which generates 287 hp and is slightly more powerful than the Kia Sedona. Thus the Nissan Quest is the least powerful vehicle in comparison, which sees its effects in the other segments as well.
As mentioned earlier, the Quest has the least powerful engine among its competitors, which translates to slower acceleration. It took the longest in the 0-60 mph acceleration race with the timing of 11.3 seconds. A similar performance is seen on the quarter-mile acceleration where the Quest took almost 20 seconds to cover the distance.

The Sienna is comparatively quicker than any other vehicle in this comparison with a 0-60 mph acceleration time of 9.9 seconds. The 2017 Chrysler Pacifica is just 0.2 seconds slower than the Toyota. The Kia Sedona takes 10.6 seconds to reach the 60 mph mark. A similar result is seen in the quarter-mile acceleration with the Toyota Sienna leading the pack. Again Nissan stands last in the quarter-mile in comparison to the rivals.
Ride quality is the single most important aspect of a car. Minivans are not the most fun cars to drive, and the Quest is no different. It feels like a smaller car and quite easy to handle for its size. However, you might have to go gentle on sharper turns. The Quest is equipped with independent suspension at all four corners, and this makes a lot of difference. You will not feel the imperfections on the road, and driving over the speed bumps is also reasonably smooth.
The well-tuned hydraulic steering system in the Quest also improves the ride quality. It's pretty smooth and responsive and does not demand much effort from the driver. But the driver still has to be very alert, especially in the city as this is a very wide car and you can easily nick it.
Being a heavy vehicle, the braking performed needs to be good to control the vehicle. The Nissan Quest is equipped with an 11.4-inch disc brake in the front along with a 12.1-inch disc at the rear. Quest comes with the segment standard 4 disc brakes accompanied by brake assistance. ABS is also standard across all the trims.

The Chrysler Pacifica has the biggest brake setup in comparison to the other, measuring 13.0-inch at front and rear. The Kia Sedona and Toyota Sienna have a similar brake size, but the Kia is slightly heavier than the Toyota. When it comes to braking distance, the figures are not available for any of the competitors.
As a daily driver, fuel efficiency is a very important factor that can attract or deter many buyers. Nissan has done a decent job here as the Quest has a good fuel efficiency of 27 mpg on the highway and 20 mpg in the city that results in a combined mpg of 22. The CVT of the Quest makes sure the V6 engine is always in the sweet spot of fuel efficiency and performance.

The Chrysler Pacifica has the best fuel efficiency as it provides 19 mpg in the city, which improves to 28 mpg on the highway. Thus it gets a combined mileage of 23 mpg. This is followed by The Toyota Sienna and the Kia Sedona. When comparing the fuel tank capacity, Kia offers the biggest tank of 21.1 gallons.
The quality and feel of the interior depend largely on the trim you select. If you opt for the base S trim, you will be treated with very ordinary interiors. The seats are covered with a cloth, while the steering wheel is covered with plateresque material that feels very cheap.
If you upgrade to the SL trim, you will be treated with leather-wrapped steering, but the seats will still be wrapped with a cloth. It is in the SV and Platinum trims where you will get leather seats with heating for the front seats. Since it is a family minivan, heating seats should have been provided for the rear seats as well.

Quest can easily accommodate 7 passengers, 2 in the front seats, 2 in the middle seat, and 3 in the rear row. While the first 2 rows are quite spacious, the last row tends to get a little congested, especially with 3 people. But this is the case with all the cars in the segment. The seats in the middle and rear row cannot be moved, which can be problematic at times. The back door also does not slide enough to make enough room for easy ingress and egress. Few key interior features include-
Infotainment is one of the weakest links of the Quest. The base trim S is only equipped with a standard radio system accompanied by 4 speakers. Upgrading to the SL trim will get you a 6 speaker system coupled with a 5-inch color display. The top of the line will get you a large 8-inch touchscreen display along with 13 speakers Bose sound system, which results in excellent surround sound. You will also be treated with a separate DVD entertainment system for the rear seats. Smartphones can be connected via Bluetooth only as both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are absent. You will also have to rely on the factory-installed navigation system for direction. Major infotainment features include-
Quest has one of the smallest cargo spaces in the segment. It offers a cargo volume of 35 cu.ft at the rear. Moreover, the 2nd-row seats do not fold completely to the floor level, which can be an issue sometimes. The cargo space of Quest stands second after a tie between Toyota and Kia for the first place.

The Kia Sedona and Toyota Sienna have the same cargo volume of 39 cubic feet, which is the largest in the comparison. The Chrysler has the smallest cargo volume of 32 cu.ft, which is not enough for a minivan. Cargo space remains a big deciding factor when it comes to buying a van, and Nissan is not at the top in the competition.
The exterior styling of the Quest gets polarizing reviews. While many love the upright, tall, and boxy looks of the Quest, others do not. But no one can deny the fact that Quest does not follow the standard design language of a conventional minivan.
The high roof, squared-off rear, wraparound glass, and huge chrome grille are all defining characteristics of Nissan's family van.

It's curvier towards the front of the car than the rear. There is a continual curvature from the hood that continues towards the rear end. The rear end is very stiff and looks like a completely different car altogether. The side profile is fairly average too. Dimension-wise, the Quest is on par with the segment standard. It is however the heaviest among all the competitors. Much like the interiors, Quest also lacks in the external feature department. Some of the external features are-
Safety is the weakest link of the 2017 Nissan Quest. The NHTSA has not tested the Nissan Quest, but the IIHS has given a poor rating for the front overlap test, while the roof gets an average rating. The inclusion of safety features would have improved the safety factor of the vehicle, but the base trim comes with very basic safety features. Here is a list of all the safety features included in the 2017 Nissan Quest:
With price tags of $ 27,500 and $ 26,900 respectively, there's very little that separates the Quest and the Sedona. While the Quest is more fuel-efficient and roomier than the Sedona, it takes the backseat in terms of engine power and safety. The infotainment system in the base trim is also very basic and dated.
Nissan Quest and Chrysler Pacifica are very similar cars. The Pacifica is a little expensive with a price of $28,995, but it offers loads of features in the base trim. It can also boast of a more powerful engine. But the Quest is more fuel-efficient and has a better ride quality, all thanks to the suspension and hydraulic steering system.
Toyota has the most powerful engine among all the cars. It is, however, also the most expensive. But Toyota also comes with premium interiors which makes up for the additional cost. The few things going for the Quest against the Sienna are the fuel efficiency and the roomier rear seats.
The 2017 Nissan Quest is a fairly capable car in the family minivan segment. It has stylish looks, spacious interiors, and a fairly capable and fuel-efficient engine that makes it a good daily family car. However, you have to opt for higher trims as the basic trim does not do justice to the price tag. It also lacks a big cargo space. To make the matters worse, its safety ratings are very poor, which may repulse a lot of potential buyers.
