Overall Rating
Go-anywhere attitude describes the 2018 Jeep Renegade. It’s for the thrill-seeker, the go-getter, and the trailblazer. Renegade is the off-roading beast that loves to get dirty without any complaints.
Most of the Jeep Renegade 2018 variants come equipped with a 2.4-liter engine which is moderately quicker than the base but it is also noisy to operate. Jeep Renegade price for the base Sport trim is starting at $17,995 (FWD) and $19,995 (AWD). The Jeep Renegade is for the thrill-seeker, the go-getter, and the trailblazer. It is considered to be the off-roading beast that loves to get dirty without any complaints.
The base trim has limited features and it doesn't even offer air conditioning or cruise control. However, the Sport and Latitude with low MSRPs are really attractive but if you want to get the full experience of the Renegade, we would suggest you to with the Limited of Trailhawk trims. These trims come with several advanced features and a large touchscreen infotainment system. Adventurous buyers although will be happy with the Jeep Renegade Trailhawk for its best-in-class off-roading capability.

The 2018 Jeep Renegade is a serious, best-in-class off-roader. You can have comfort as well as genuine off-roading performance in this compact and affordable SUV. The 2018 Jeep Renegade SUV offers four trims with the Trailhawk especially suited for off-roading. Even the trims that are not trail-rated can easily take on the beaten path more comfortably than most of its rivals. There are two engine options to choose from, a 1.4-liter 4-cylinder base engine and a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine.

What we recommend
The base trim has limited features and it doesn't even offer air conditioning or cruise control. However, the Sport and Latitude with low MSRPs are really attractive but if you want to get the full experience of the Renegade, we would suggest you go with the Limited of Trailhawk trims. These trims come with several advanced features and a large touchscreen infotainment system. Adventurous buyers will be happy with the Trailhawk for its best-in-class off-roading capability.
In the two Jeep Renegade engine options, we get a 1.4-liter turbocharged Inline 4-cylinder that puts out 160 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque whereas a brusque 2.4-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder churns out 180-hp and 175 pound-feet of torque. The nine-speed automatic transmission is noisy and feels shaky while shifting gears. However, we will put our focus on the 1.4-liter turbocharged Inline-4 cylinder.
The 2018 Jeep Renegade shows no fear in going off the track while most SUVs struggle to do so. It is built to impress while off-roading and is sufficiently equipped. Every trim offers a four-wheel drive and Selec-Terrain system, which gives you the option to choose different terrain types. Designed to handle even the toughest trails, the Trailhawk comes with low-range gearing, all-terrain tires, skid plates, tow hook and it also adds Rock mode.

From the data provided we find that even though the Jeep Renegade doesn’t necessarily offer a big engine in comparison to its rivals, it still manages to churn out a more efficient power and torque in comparison to its rivals. The Ford EcoSport comes last in this segment in terms of its engine performance, while the Honda HR-V and the Mazda CX-3 are close in terms of engine power output.
The 2018 Jeep Renegade takes 9.4 seconds to go from 0-60 MPH with the base 1.4-liter turbocharged engine, which is average for the class. However, it feels a bit quicker when equipped with the 2.4-liter turbocharged engine. In terms of handling, one would be happy to drive the Renegade on the city roads as on the rocky terrains, thanks to its relaxed and composed handling.
It doesn't lean on sides while cornering and feels agile. When it comes to the trims, the Jeep Renegade Latitude offers sharper and engaging drive than the Trailhawk. The steering wheel on the Renegade feels light and contributes to the overall comfort of the SUV.

Although the Jeep Renegade provides a better acceleration than the Ford EcoSport, the Mazda CX-3 and Honda HR-V accelerate at a better pace. The Mazda CX-3 is the quickest in 0-60 MPH acceleration where it takes 8.6 seconds. The Honda GR-V is almost similar in acceleration with 0-60 mph reached in 9.3 seconds.
The 2018 Renegade comes with Active Braking (advanced brake assist that increases the brake pressure if the driver is not braking enough). Brake pedals feel firm and it stops from 60-0 in 126 feet which is average for the class.
The 2018 Jeep Renegade has the biggest brakes in comparison. It gets disc brakes at both the front and rear measuring 12 inches and 11 inches respectively. Even with bigger brakes, the Jeep is not the best performing vehicle in this comparison. The higher curb weight of the Renegade is an issue for the braking performance.

In terms of braking performance, the Mazda CX-3 performs the best in this segment as it comes to a stop covering the least distance. Jeep Renegade, Ford EcoSport, and Honda HR-V have almost similar braking performances but the Honda covers the maximum distance despite using the brakes.
You will not save money on fuel with the Jeep Renegade as it ranks below all the other rivals in the class when it comes to fuel efficiency. The base Renegade with 1.4-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder has an EPA rating of 24 mpg city, 31 highways, and 26 combined with both front and all-wheel drive. This implies that the fuel economy is somewhat disappointing and drags down the overall image of the model.

From the data provided, it is clear that the Jeep Renegade comes last in terms of its fuel efficiency. Therefore there is a fear that these figures might turn the buyer away as others like the Honda HR-V and Mazda cx-3 offer better combined fuel efficiency. The Mazda is the most efficient in this comparison with a combined fuel economy of 31 mpg.
The 2018 Jeep Renegade interior is not as impressive as others in the segment. Material quality is average with hard plastics although once you are inside the lovely texture and color choices on the dashboard brighten things up. For an SUV, it has plenty of space inside with enough headroom for taller folks although they might find the legroom a bit tight.
The cabin cuts you completely from the engine noise but wind noise is an issue considering its boxy shape. Latitude trim soaks up bumps better than the Trailhawk and offers better ride quality. The driving position is comfortable and the upright windshield provides you a broader view of the road ahead. The Renegade boasts comfy seats with a wide range of adjustments. You get a more cushioned ride in the Latitude trim although road and tire noise are an issue.Â

It is evident that the Jeep Renegade offers the maximum seating space in comparison to its rivals. The Honda HR-V and the Ford EcoSport seem to provide somewhat similar seating specifications which seems adequate but the Mazda CX-3 loses out on this segment for providing the least amount of space. The main interior features of the 2018 Jeep Renegade SUV are:
Not the best in class but still the 2018 Jeep Renegade offers a respectable amount of cargo space with 18.5 cubic feet of cargo space behind the second row and 50.8 cubic feet overall. There is also an optional front passenger seat folding available which lets you carry long objects.

With respect to the cargo space, the Honda HR-V provides the maximum space which is why it tops the segment whereas, the Mazda CX-3 comes last. Jeep Renegade and Ford EcoSport offer an almost similar cargo space which is average at best.
The 2018 Jeep Renegade's Uconnect Infotainment system is one of the most user-friendly that is available in the market. It responds quickly to commands and it is easy to navigate through the menu. Jeep has ensured that all the controls are within reach and logically arranged.
The Jeep Renegade gets a 5-inch touchscreen along with a navigation system. It also gets smartphone integration with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto which provides better connectivity. Here is a list of standard infotainment features that are included in the 2018 Jeep Renegade:
There is some cool stuff to talk about when it comes to the exterior of the 2018 Jeep Renegade, like the X-featured in its taillight is derived from World War-II-era army jerrycans. The wheels have been squared-off giving it a more rugged look and the major difference between trims is that Sports models have flat black trim while the Limited model showcases a contrasting black roof.
Top trim Trailhawk wears black wheels and a red tow hook. Additionally, the 2018 Renegade is considered soulfully a Jeep with its round headlight, seven-slot grilles, and craggy attitude. It is a real Jeep and from the outside, it gives you the feel of the DNA that it carries from the iconic Jeep Wrangler and the luxurious Jeep Grand Cherokee. The Renegade looks modern rather than retro with an abundance of black trim and curved surfacing.

Both the Jeep Renegade and the Mazda CX-3 are almost similar in size with the Mazda being relatively long and the Renegade being relatively higher in their dimensions. The Mazda CX-3 is the lightest model in the segment whereas, the Ford EcoSport is the heaviest model but it is also the smallest. Some of the main exterior features of the 2018 Jeep Renegade are:
The 2018 Jeep Renegade earns a point from last year as the rear-view camera now comes standard on all models and it can be fitted with a forward-collision warning, AEB (automatic emergency braking), blind-spot monitoring, and lane-departure warning. NHTSA gives the Renegade 4-stars overall rating while the IIHS scores it "Good" on most tests but "Acceptable" on the small-overlap front-impact. Jeep has also scored poorly when it comes to headlights. It covers the Renegade with a 3-year/36,000-mile limited warranty and a 5-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty. The main safety features of the new Jeep Renegade includes:
The Honda HR-V comes with better rear-seat adjustments. It also boasts better mileage and has more cargo space than the Renegade. Apart from this, you get air conditioning, cruise control, stereo anti-theft system, fog lights, and alloy wheels as standard on the Honda and not on the Renegade. However, with Jeep, you get a more rugged-looking SUV which appeals more to off-roaders. With a price difference of $1500 between the two, Honda with its features scores better.
It may not have the toughness of the Renegade with it being a better SUV. Once inside the car, you would love its driving dynamics and sporty handling. It also scores better when it comes to fuel efficiency and its crash test results are the best in the class. The 2018 Mazda CX-3 also brags a more luxurious cabin than the Renegade. So, if you are in the market then do not forget to go and check out the Mazda CX-3. At the end of the day, the choice is yours.
Jeep Renegade Vs Ford EcoSport
The Ford EcoSport is best suited to city driving rather than going off-roading in it. These two are completely different compact SUVs. Ford gives you better mileage and interior whereas, Renegade performs awesomely well while off-roading and is also a good city driver. It also has more space inside and comes at a lesser price than the Ford. Go for the Renegade, as it helps you in multi-tasking while with EcoSport you are limited to city and highway.
The Jeep Renegade has a lot to offer in terms of pricing and performance. It is priced reasonably low as compared to rivals and feels comfortable whether you are going or shopping or tacking difficult off-road trails. However, its low cost means that you miss out on some key features like air conditioning and cruise control that come standard in most competitors. Buyers will have to ignore the shaky transmission and slow engine to drive home this spacious and well-packaged Jeep.
