Overall Rating
The Audi R8 shares the powertrain with the most-loved Lamborghini Huracan and goes easier to drive all-day. The Audi R8 competes against the Porsche 911 Turbo, Mercedes-AMG GT and the Acura NSX. The R8 comes out to be poorer in fuel efficiency than many of its rivals and offers lesser features than the others. The 10-cylinder supercar roars on the roads, and the noise from the exhaust elevates his enthusiasm for speed.Â
Audi’s two-seater and rear-mid engine sports car is back for the 2021 model year with not many updates to be talked about. The 2021 R8 Coupe derives its power from a 5.3-liter V10 engine and gets a Rear-wheel configuration as standard. Prices for the 2021 Audi R8 start with an MSRP of $142,700. Standard rear-wheel configuration on both the base R8 V10 Coupe and Spyder is the new change in the 2021 model. The base V10 produces 562 hp and 406 lb-ft of torque, whereas the V10 Performance pumps out 602 hp and 413 lb-ft of torque.
Audi’s famed QUATTRO all-wheel drive is available only with the V10 Performance model that starts with an MSRP of $154,900, without taxes. Also new for the 2021 R8 generation is a 30 units limited, R8 Panther edition. The 2021 R8 Panther edition is available in selected dealers only. Needless to say, the base 2021 Audi R8 is not without competition, and some of the names include the likes of - Porsche 911 Turbo, Mercedes-AMG GT, and the Honda NSX.
The base R8 V10 trim seems to be pretty enough with a lot of the equipped features and specs with the price it demands. The R8 Performance Quattro is far more expensive than the base trim and doesn’t make much sense with what it demands and what is being offered. Buying the Audi R8 Quattro Coupe won't disappoint you, because however expensive it is, the level of luxury it offers lets you forget the rest. Those with tighter budgets shall have better choices with other brands, but the Audi R8 is a perfect pack of comfort, styling, utility, and practicality with a simple interior.

Both Ibis White and Vegas Yellow can be availed for $0.

"However, no competitor can match the R8 for drama and raw aural assault, with the R8's V10 howling all the way to 8,700 rpm, making a beautiful shriek through each gear." - Car Buzz
The 2021 Audi R8 is powered by a 5.2-liter Naturally Aspirated V10 FSI engine. It is available in two states of tunes. The base R8 V10 pumps out around 532 horsepower and 398 lb-ft of torque, while the QUATTRO R8 V10 Performance produces 602 horsepower and413 lb-ft of torque. Both the 2021 R8 V10 and V10 Performance can reach from 0-60 mph in under 3.0 seconds.
Both 2021 R8 V10 and V10 Performance get a 7-speed S-Tronic dual-clutch automatic transmission, which is crisp and precise. Audi claims that the transmission system of the Audi R8 can shift gears in as little as 120 milliseconds. The base R8 V10 with RWD weighs less than its all-wheel-drive counterpart due to losses in components such as the prop shaft, front axles, multi-plate clutch, and front differential.
Since the RWD chassis in the 2021 R8 is sourced from the 2021 Lamborghini Huracan Evo RWD, it gets stiffer front anti-roll bars and an electromechanical power steering that has a counter-steer torque function, that keeps the car in line on straight accelerations.

The bigger engine does help the 2021 Audi R8 V10 attain great top speeds. The 2021 Acura NSX's 3.5L twin-turbocharged engine leads the pack in terms of power figures with 573 horsepower. The 2021 Porsche 911 Turbo follows the suit, with 572 hp. The 2021 Audi R8 V10 slots in the third spot, finally followed by the 2021 Mercedes-AMG GT Coupe. The 2021 Mercedes-AMG GT Coupe's 4.0L bi-turbo V8 engine has been upgraded for the 2021 model year, with 54 more horsepower, bringing the total output to 523 hp.
The 2021 Audi R8 V10 has a mileage of 13 mpg in the city and 20 miles on the freeway, leaving a combined mileage rate of 16 mpg. But Audi has given the 2021 R8 , a humongous 21.9-liter fuel tank that extends the combined range of around 350 miles at max. Both the Porsche and Honda have better fuel-efficient figures because of their smaller V6 engine.

"The sleek, understated design blends with high technology for a modern cabin that's easy to acclimate to." - Edmunds
The interior of the 2021 Audi R8 is based on old Audi racing cars, that they call the Monoposto design. This means, that there will be no infotainment screen and instead, the 12.3-inch MMI digital instrument cluster will double up as the infotainment screen, instead. The dashboard sweeps gently and body-colored inlets around the AC vents give it a chic look. The R8 V10 gets an optional Diamond stitched Sports seat for an addition of $5,000. The 2021 R8 V10 Performance on the other hand gets standard Racing shell seats, and for the same $5000, the full-leather treatment with Diamond Stitching.
The 2021 Audi R8 V10 Performance model gets the R8 Performance design package that costs $5,000. But the base R8 V10 RWD does not get any package. The three-spoke multifunction flat-bottom steering wheel with shift paddles includes four steering wheel-mounted satellite buttons – engine Start/Stop, Audi drive select, Performance Mode selector, and Sport exhaust. Unfortunately, being a flat-bottom steering wheel, the 2021 R8 V10 and V10 Performance models don’t get any heated options.Â
Infotainment features on the 2021 R8's 12.3-inch Virtual Cockpit can be controlled via the rotary dial on the center console or steering-mounted buttons. It gets Audi’s MMI navigation and supports both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Both the 2021 R8 V10 and R8 V10 Performance get the option to replace their standard audio system for the 550-watt, 13-speaker 3d surround sound system by Bang and Olufsen for $1300.

The updated 2020 Audi R8 isn’t a striking shift for the dramatic supercar. All the elements that made the R8 stand out on the road are there: mid-engine design, side intakes, low profile, two doors. -TheCarConnection
The 2020 facelift did make the upcoming 2021 Audi R8 look much more appealing than its predecessors. The new 2021 Audi R8 (76.4-inches) is wider than the Porsche 911 Coupe (74.9-inches); has the highest ground clearance at 4.3-inches. The blacked-out Singleframe grille with the honeycomb patterns along with large front air gaps gives an idea of how performance-oriented the R8 is. Standard wheels on the R8 V10 are 20”, 5-V spoke, bi-color anthracite wheels, and on the R8 V10 Performance, there’s the 20”, 5 double-spoke, Titanium wheels. The adjustable exterior mirrors get options and the sharp LED headlights get Audi’s laser light.
RWD R8 V10 models get a carbon exterior package that adds carbon fiber to the engine compartment and carbon sigma side blades. The rear spoiler is fixed and is also made of carbon fiber. Large oval tailpipes surrounded by dominant diffuser frames give ample drama to the rear fascia of the 2021 Audi R8, as well. At 3737 lbs, the 2021 Audi R8 is the heaviest in its competition.

Despite measuring short, the Audi R8 gets the largest wheelbase. The R8 also gets a ground clearance of 4.3 inches, which will be raised further by 2 inches to overcome those bigger speed bump. Some of the standout exterior features of the 2021 Audi R8 are:
The Audi R8 hasn’t yet been rated by the NHTSA or the IIHS. The body is stiff and robust but lacks any futuristic tech integrations in the cabin, which might be slightly disappointing. For example, there's no cruise control on the 2021 Audi R8, or Lane Keep Assist for that matter.
That said, the most prominent standard safety features of the 2021 Audi R8 include:
The Porsche 911 gets the smallest engine yet delivers much more power than the Audi R8 and thus has better acceleration figures. The unmatched top speed of the R8 and the smallest braking distance it offers, help it to stay in the competition strongly. The competition is tough enough and difficult to determine the best among the two. While the Audi R8 is a grand tourer that possesses all the qualities of a sports car, the Porsche 911 is more inclined toward driving pleasure. One should have their priorities fixed check out their priorities to select among the two.
2021 Audi R8 vs 2021 Acura NSX
The Japan-based Acura NSX is another big rival to the R8. Though the engine is smaller, it gets more power figures and easier acceleration than the R8. Moreover, the Acura makes out to be hugely fuel-efficient than the thirsty engine of the Audi. However, the 2021 Audi R8 looks much attractive and appealing in terms of styling and design and defeats the Acura by the way it looks. If what you need is a better performer and not the one to attract the attention of the folks, then you may go for the cheaper Acura NSX.
2021 Audi R8 vs 2021 Mercedes-AMG GT
This competition gets a clear winner in the form of the AMG GT due to its fantastic looks, tech-packed interiors, driving dynamics, and cheaper price tag. Moreover, the AMG GT has further intensified its case for the model year 2021, owing to the bump in power and several other updates. The smaller engine of the 2021 Mercedes-AMG GT delivers greater power and higher fuel economy, without compromising the performance or the styling. Safe and reliable Mercedes GT thus wins this race.
The R8 is an impressive supercar, indeed. But we think it’s a bit too expensive. Much like the Nissan GT-R, it has been coasting for years without much change apart from the price. The massive 10-cylinder engine along with all the mechanical makes it the favorite of many people. However, there are discussions going around that the brand is planning to discontinue the model after a few more years and thus no refresh has been made in the 2021 model. Being a carryover model, it does make less sense in waiting for the R8. The brand would have put some effort to push out a new one with many more features.
