About 2021 Ford Mustang

4.0

Overall Rating

The 2021 Ford Mustang is available for sale in 2 trims for a starting price of $27,205. Powered by a 310 hp 2.3L I-4 engine, there are 4 configurations available depending on the transmission choice. The changes include the addition of the Co-Pilot360 safety suite as standard and the relaunch of the 480 hp 2021 Mustang Mach 1 for $53,400. Packed with a feature-rich interior, it is comfortable, practical, and reliable as well for a muscle car.

The 2021 Ford Mustang does not see many changes from last year besides the addition of the Co-Pilot360 safety suite as standard. Available for sale in two trims having four configurations, the MSRP for the 2021 Ford Mustang Coupe starts from $27,205 for the Fastback and goes up to $33,080 for the Premium with the 10-speed automatic transmission. The other option is the standard 6-speed manual both of which are hooked up to a 310 hp 2.3L inline-4 cylinder engine

The biggest addition to the Mustang lineup is the 480 hp track-focused 2021 Mustang Mach 1 for $53,400. All of the trims and models entail $1,595 extra for opting for the automatic transmission. For those who want the absolute best of the moniker, the 760 hp 2021 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 is also available for $72,900. In its present avatar, it competes against all-time rivals like the Dodge Challenger and the Chevrolet Camaro.

The 2021 Ford Mustang is a feature-packed muscle car, and hence it makes sense that you opt for the Premium trim with the manual for $32,225. While the gear stick stays true to the ethos of the muscle car, the creature comforts and practicality on offer with the Mustang Premium make it well worth the price. However, if you want a no-nonsense experience of shifting, then the 10-speed automatic is also a worthy option.

Pricing and Features
7.0/10

Two trim options – Mustang and Mustang Premium - are on offer with the 2021 Ford Mustang. The starting price of this muscle car is $27,205 for the base model while the range-topping Premium model is priced from $32,225. Both the Mustang and Mustang Premium trims are powered by the same 310 hp 2.3L EcoBoost I-4 engine.

The engine is hooked up to a 6-speed manual transmission as standard and opting for the 10-speed automatic transmission pushes the price up by $1,595 in both trims. With the optional Ford Performance upgrades, the power from the engine jumps to 330 hp with the same 350 lb-ft of torque.

Unless one is keen on upgrading to the 2021 Ford Mustang GT for $36,285 with the V8 engine, the Ecoboost models are very much the sportscar anyone would love. Buying Advice

Engine and Performance
8.5/10

"More than fifty years later, Ford has managed to keep excitement levels about the Mustang high, with the refreshed EcoBoost Fastback for 2020 making waves for its new High Performance package 2.3-liter engine, borrowed from the Ford Focus RS." - CarBuzz.com

The 2021 Ford Mustang is powered by a 2.3-liter EcoBoost inline-4 cylinder engine that produces 310 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque. The engine comes mated to a 6-speed manual transmission as standard that puts the power on the wheels with an RWD drivetrain. Overall, this engine is one of the most refined and reliable engines in the segment and the manual offers smooth shifting. If you want enhanced performance then the 460 hp 2021 Ford Mustang GT is worth a look as well.

For the purists, the 10-speed automatic might take the fun away from being a muscle car, but thankfully, this unit does not mum down the performance as much as you might think and retains the vibe of being a Mustang. Irrespective of the transmission you choose, the 2021 Ford Mustang packs the spice and the sense to give you a feel of the drive. Push the car into the corners, or drive it in a sedate manner, the engine will always have optimum performance output for every situation.

While the 2021 Ford Mustang is not the most powerful car in the segment, it surely delivers a much better power-torque curve and is also one of the most fun-to-drive coupes in the segment. It is the least powerful vehicle in the segment and the same is reflected in the 0-60 MPH timings. The car does a 0-60 mph run in 5.1 seconds and then finishes the quarter-mile run in 13.7 secs. If you opt for the 2021 Ford Mustang GT, these figures drop by almost a second in the 0-60 mph to 4.2 seconds.

The rivalry between these three has been as old as time itself. In 2021, the Ford Mustang takes the crown as the most powerful and the fastest in their base avatar. The Dodge Challenger has remained unchanged for over a decade, and yet is 7 hp lesser than the Mustang despite costing almost $1,600 more. The Chevy Camaro a.k.a. Bumblebee comes with the smallest engine and hence the lowest power specs. This is also the reason it is the slowest in the 0-60 mph sprint.

In fact, except for the old and burly Dodge Challenger, none of the cars have bested the 2021 Ford Mustang's fuel efficiency figures, and thereby, demonstrated it is something to be proud of.  Despite having the smallest engine, the Chevy Camaro has the least fuel economy and tries to masks that fact with the big 19-gallon fuel tank which is the biggest in the segment.

Interior
8.0/10

"The modern Mustang takes a lot of its styling cues from the original Mustangs of the 1960s. The fastback body style, for instance, comes directly from those cars." - TheCarConnection.com

The 2021 Ford Mustang scores very high in terms of interior comfort, practicality, and overall functionality. The front seats of the Mustang are known for their heating and cooling functionality. The plastics used inside the cabin are of supreme quality and feel very luxurious and soft to touch. Ingress and egress from the car are easy because of the high stance and overall the interiors are decent.

However, the rear seats of the Ford Mustang are said to be a little cramped, it would be an absolute struggle for the taller individuals. It is otherwise a highly practical vehicle for day-to-day use. The vehicle gets enough storage spaces at the front. There is a huge storage bin in the center console below the driver’s armrest and other small places to store other stuff.

Exterior
7.0/10

"What you might not expect about the Mustang is the way Ford has committed to the standard four-cylinder engine. Base Mustangs used to be underpowered and unloved but not anymore." - Edmunds.com

The 2021 Ford Mustang comes with a handsome design and an aggressive-looking front, which gives it the best road presence in the segment. The basic Fastback trim has a smooth look compared to the Premium Fastback. The exteriors get sharper and more aggressive as we move towards the GT line-up.

While the lack of quirky design language makes the Ford Mustang look very appealing, it is its subtle yet sporty design language that makes it a distinctive character. The exterior color option spans eight distinct colors for its palette offering. Each of the eight colors stands out and ensures that the Mustang leaves its viewers in complete awe.

In terms of dimensions, the Dodge Challenger is one of the longest and the widest vehicles in the segment. The BMW M2 Competition is the smallest by quite a bit and this is reflected in the way it drives. The Mustang is somewhere in the middle with its 107-inch wheelbase. However, we wish the rear seats were a bit more spacious.

2021 Ford Mustang vs 2021 Dodge Challenger

The 202 Dodge Challenger is a cult icon in the muscle car circles. It gets a spacious interior and comes with a very quintessentially muscular design language. Though it comes with the 303 hp 3.6L engine under the hood, it offers slightly lesser power and marginally lesser MPG figures than the Mustang. Priced $1,600 higher than the Ford, it boils down to personal brand preference here.

2021 Ford Mustang vs 2021 Chevrolet Camaro

The 2021 Chevy Camaro is a highly capable vehicle with an incredible reliability record and great built quality. The engines may not be very powerful but are extremely reliable and smooth. The car, in addition to all these also scores very high in terms of safety. The Camaro, however, falls behind the Mustang in terms of comfort and practicality, and hence justifies the lower price tag as well.
