Overall Rating
The 2021 Toyota Tundra Crewmax will see the introduction of the Nightshade package for the Limited trim, and the 5000 unit only Trail Special Edition which is based on the SR5 trim, and yet gets features from the 1794 edition trim. Available for sale since July 2020, it is offered in 6 trims, with a starting price of $33,675. Carrying a 5.7L V8 engine, it offers a choice between 4x2 and 4x4 drivetrains. With a 5.5 ft bed size, the 2021 Tundra Crewmax has a towing capacity of 10,100 lbs at its best.
The 2021 Toyota Tundra Crewmax was released in July 2020 and carries the same specs as 2020. It is offered in 4 trims, namely SR5, Limited, Platinum, and 1794 Edition. The prices for the 2021 Crewmax begin from $37,970 with the SR5 trim, and go up to $48,895 with the Platinum and 1794 Edition trim. This does not include the destination fees of $1,595. New changes for this year are the Nightshade appearance package for the Limited trim, and the Trail Special Edition that is based on the SR5 trim for a limited production run for 5000 units only with elements borrowed from the 1794 Edition.
Powered by a big-block 5.7L V8 under the hood, there is also a full-blown 4x4 off-roader TRD Pro model of the 2021 Toyota Tundra Crewmax. While it's easy to pick up a used Tundra Crewmax for sale, you can also consider leasing it since it costs $339/month to lease it at a $0 downpayment. Unlike its competitors like the Ford F-150 Supercrew, RAM 1500 Crew Cab, and the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Crew Cab that offer at least 2-bed sizes, the 2021 Toyota Tundra Crewmax comes with a single short bed size of 5.5-feet which allows the truck to offer a towing capacity of 10,100 lbs at its best.
From the available 4 trims on offer, the Limited trim makes the most sense as the value for money proposition. It opens the gate to the coveted Nightshade appearance package, comes with almost all the features of daily usage, has the bigger fuel tank, and is priced perfectly at $44,255. If you want to splurge more, then the Platinum trim might also be worth looking at since it upgrades to the finer features of the moniker at its price of $48,895.

Toyota penned today’s Tundra back in the mid-2000s, set it loose for the 2008 model year, and hasn’t done much with it since then - The Car Connection
The 2021 Toyota Tundra still looks like the past few year's models and has been holding the same design since its release with light modifications, the truck still seems like a thing of the past and the brand has not furnished any design changes this year either. There are a total of 12 colors to choose from including Voodoo blue and Army Green (1974 Edition only). In the front, you get the giant and imposing grille flanked by the rather small headlamps that are halogen-powered in the SR5 trim and LED-powered in all the others.
With 18-inch wheels as standard, the side silhouette is no different than a conventional pickup truck. Thanks to the smart building practices, the 2021 Toyota Tundra Crewmax, despite having a length of 228.9-inches (smaller than all the competitors) with a bed size of 5.5-feet, the truck still seems much bigger. The rear also looks exactly the same as before with the LED taillamps, and manually operated tailgate.

Compared to the others, the Toyota Tundra Crewmax is actually the heaviest despite being the shortest in length. The Ford F-150 Supercrew is actually the lightest one while the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Crew Cab is just in the second spot with 4,702 lbs. The RAM 1500 Crew Cab occupies the third place in terms of weight but it is the longest, tallest, and widest among the lot. The notable features of the exterior of the 2021 Toyota Tundra Crewmax are:
"Sure it's safe, but the IIHS certainly want more." - The Car Connection
The 2021 Toyota Tundra has an NHTSA safety rating of an overall of 4-stars, out of a possible 5-stars. However, the IIHS has not scored it well, getting 3 Good with a poor in small overlap front passenger-side test, two marginals, and one acceptable, with an overall "acceptable" rating
The Toyota Tundra comes with safety features like 8 airbags, dynamic radar cruise control, stability control, automatic emergency braking assist, blind-spot monitoring, backup camera, and many more. The following are some of the highlights of the safety features in the 2021 Toyota Tundra:
The Tundra's time-tested abilities have a certain appeal, but other, newer trucks simply offer more.- Motor Trend
The 2021 Ram 1500 does have lesser power, performance, and lesser towing capacity, but offers better mpg numbers than the Toyota Tundra and more legroom in the back seat. Also, the Ram offers luxurious interiors which gives it a bit of an edge. Also, the Ram looks better as well making it a good option for the Tundra. But, the V8 performance does make it a very attractive offering at its price.
Like the Ram 1500, the Ford F-150 Supercrew offers a better mpg. The F-150 also comes with more interior space along with more modern style on the interior and exterior and is America's best-selling truck. However, the Toyota Tundra comes with a V8 engine which makes more power, better performance, and better-towing capacity, which is what pick-up trucks are to excel at.
2021 Toyota Tundra Crewmax vs 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Crew Cab
The 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 comes with more fuel economy numbers and much more space, however, performance, power, and towing capacity are lesser than the Toyota Tundra, as the Silverado, like the Ram and Ford, comes with a smaller engine, but its towing capacity is the closest of the competition, it's lesser by 400 pounds to the Tundra, making it the best alternative to it.
Though the older powertrain, low MPG figures, and older design might stick out to many. However, the Tundra does come with a V8 engine and is the most affordable way to get it in a pick-up truck and can tow up to 10,100 pounds, which is more than the competition, which is what pick-up trucks are meant for.
