The Mustang is one of the most iconic car names recognized around the globe. One of America’s original muscle cars, the Mustang offers thrilling performance along with great driving capabilities, with options to unlock even more performance. The interior is also of decent quality, barring a few cheap bits here and there. And the exterior is also just as eye-catching and stylish as ever, with a big muscular hood and sharp, menacing headlights. The Mustang is available in different trims with customizable options and engine choices, but the base engine might be a bit underwhelming for American muscle power.

The Mustang has 28 complaints on the NHTSA website and 5 recalls, so it isn’t winning any awards for the most reliable car of the year.

2020 Ford Mustang User Complaints and Problems

Engine and Mechanical Problems

  • Powertrain - A few users complained that the manual transmission of the 2020 Mustang is faulty, which causes problems like random downshifts and the vehicle coming to a halt. One user complained that the vehicle crawled forward while the owner hit the brake pedal and not the accelerator pedal. On the other hand, another user complained that the vehicle started jerking and shaking uncontrollably while driving at 45 MPH.
  • Brakes - There seems to be a common problem with the braking system of the Mustang. Lots of users have complained that even after they have depressed the brake pedal, the car still refused to come to a halt and continued to move forward. Basically, the brakes did not work. Because of this, a few users have also experienced crashes and collisions.

Safety Problems

  • Airbags - There are a few incidents where the owners have stated that they experienced some heavy crashes, but even after that, the airbags failed to deploy.

Electrical Problems

  • Instrument cluster - One user complains that the digital instrument cluster goes blank without any warning and it usually happens when the car is starting up. It takes anywhere between 10 to 30 minutes to turn back on.

Should you buy the 2020 Ford Mustang?

While the Mustang is undoubtedly one of the most desirable cars available, the 2020 model has a major issue with the brakes. This has been addressed by Ford in a recall, however, and now the car is a lot safer. Still, for the owners who bought the car first, it would have been pretty frustrating. Nevertheless, if you want to buy it now, then you certainly can as we believe that the problem has been dealt with.
