To add some excitement to the already desirable Ferrari 296 GTB, Ferrari has revealed a droptop version of the same, going by the name 296 GTS. Just like its coupe counterpart, the 2023 Ferrari 296 GTS will be powered by the same hybrid powertrain producing 819 HP. Ferrari claims that the convertible version can retract or deploy its hardtop in just 14 seconds at speeds up to 28 mph. Obviously, that’s quick just like the performance 296 GTS has on offer.
The mid-mounted 2.9-liter V6 engine comes with a 120-degree wide cylinder bank layout and offers symmetrical firing order, resulting in a V-12 like sound. Even the pre-catalytic converter has been placed in such a way that the passengers can hear the exhaust note clearly whether the roof is up or down for a thrilling driving experience. The engine itself produces 654 HP and 546 lb-ft of torque, while the electric motor produces 165 HP and 232 lb-ft of torque.

As a result the combined output stands at 819 HP and 546 lb-ft of torque. The 7.5 KWh battery pack enables the 296 GTS to be driven around in pure electric mode, offering 15 miles of pure electric driving at speeds up to 84 MPH. The 2023 Ferrari 296 GTS does not compromise on the driving experience in any way and offers the same drive modes that are available on the 296 GTB coupe.
The eDrive mode is purely an EV mode, while the Hybrid mode focuses on efficiency and engine is off for most of the time. As the name suggests, the Performance mode is where the engine stays on and roars for an engaging drive experience. With the Qualify mode, the entire focus is on performance only with maximum output and less energy is reserved for battery charging. With eSSC (side slip control), drivers can get a little naughty around the race track, while the control system manages the front and rear grip while maintaining stability.
For a more enjoyable droptop experience, Ferrari has worked on the seats and added flaps on the rear trim for reducing wind buffeting noise. As with the 296 GTB, the 2023 296 GTS will be offered with a Assetto Fiorano package for extreme weight reduction and includes multimatic dampers, Michelin tires, lightweight carbon fiber parts and aerodynamic elements that increase downforce. Ferrari has not announced the pricing for the 296 GTS, but we assume that the pricing would start around $340,000.
