The new Chevrolet Camaro is a four-seat coupe or convertible available in V6-powered LS (coupe only), 1LT and 2LT trim levels, and V8-powered 1SS and 2SS trim levels. Standard equipment on the LS includes black 18-inch steel wheels, automatic headlights, cruise control, keyless entry, air-conditioning, four-way manual front seats with power recline, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, OnStar, and a six-speaker stereo with CD player, auxiliary audio jack, and satellite radio. The 1LT adds 18-inch alloy wheels, fog lamps, an eight-way power seats.
The Convenience and Connectivity package adds to the 1LT rear park assist, remote ignition (automatic only), Bluetooth, an iPod interface, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls. The 2LT includes those items plus 19-inch alloy wheels, heated mirrors (driver-side auto-dimming), extra gauges, a head-up display, heated front seats, leather upholstery, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and a nine-speaker Boston Acoustics stereo (available separately on 1LT).

The 1SS is equipped similarly to the 1LT but adds a V8, 20-inch wheels, a sport-tuned suspension, a rear lip spoiler, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. The 2SS essentially features the 1SS's performance bits with the 2LT's convenience and luxury features.
The RS package (available on all trims but the LS) adds 20-inch wheels, xenon headlights, and a unique taillight design. A sunroof is optional on all coupes but the LS, while a variety of exterior stripes and trim items are available across the board.

The Ford Mustang and Chevy Camaro have a rivalry that goes back decades, and with the all-new Camaro introduced last year, it's resulted in a new arms race. For 2011, the base direct-injected V-6 engine has been re-rated to 312 hp (GM says they were conservative before, but it lets them one-up the 2011 Mustang's 305-hp V-6).
The 3.6-liter direct-injected V-6 used in base LS and LT versions of the 2011 Chevrolet Camaro LS and LT actually moves the Camaro quite quickly—fast enough for most tastes, if the Camaro's looks are your main motivator for buying.

Unlike the muscle cars of the past, the 2011 Camaro handles quite well, with immediate response, communicative steering, and very little roll. It's exceptionally agile and a bit less twitchy than the Mustang's live-axle setup on rough surfaces, even if Ford does manage to work wonders with it.
The V-6 model's highway rating of 28 mpg rivals some four-cylinder cars, while its city mpg of 18 is respectable. The Camaro SS engines are rated at 16 mpg city and 24 or 25 mpg highway. Based on its combined fuel economy ratings, the 2011 Chevrolet Camaro isn't the most fuel-efficient in its class (the 2011 Ford Mustang achieves 30 mpg highway), but it isn't the thirstiest either.

The Chevy just falls short behind the Ford Mustang by a mere difference, followed by the Challenger at the last spot in the comparison made above. In city mpg estimation, all three of the cars recorded figures within the 18 - 19 range, but it was the highway mpg figures that made a difference in their efficiency placements. Even though the Mustang with its efficient engine might give you a shorter range in miles due to its comparatively lesser fuel capacity.
The 2011 Camaro makes some extreme sacrifices inside in order to achieve an aggressive look. The space inside is tight, without much headroom for taller drivers, while shorter ones might feel claustrophobic from the high beltline; for just about everyone, visibility is severely compromised.
There's a small backseat, but it's good for only two small children, and the trunk is quite tiny. On the other hand, ride quality is excellent, with a surprising lack of road noise.

Muscle cars have traditionally had bland interiors, but the Camaro laudable mixes retro touches like square gauge hoods and the available four-pack of auxiliary gauges with a modern dash design. However, this style comes with notable drawbacks. Most surfaces consist of hard, cheap plastic, and those retro gauges look as if they're from a plastic toy. The 2011 Chevrolet Camaro sure has the looks and performance to bring traffic into the dealership, but the wealth of standard and optional features will help seal the deal. Standard features on the 2011 Camaro include a six-speaker stereo system with AM/FM stereo, auxiliary audio input, MP3 player, CD player, and satellite radio. Available features include Bluetooth, an iPod interface, and a nine-speaker Boston Acoustics stereo system.Â
 Among the few disappointments is the lack of a screen-based nav system, and Bluetooth connectivity isn't standard; Bluetooth comes with a USB port and iPod controls in a so-called Connectivity Package. Among the most intriguing options is a nine-speaker Boston Acoustics sound system.
While not as retro as the Dodge Challenger, the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro pairs some visual cues from older Camaros (namely the 1969 model) with a thoroughly modern design. Cues from past models include the vestigial vents ahead of the rear wheels and the hooded headlights.
At first look, compared to other coupes, the dash is high and the windshield pillars are wide, while the difference in height is quite dramatic from the very low front air dam to the rear decklid.

When it comes to the wheelbase, Camaro and the Dodge Challenger share almost similar figures in a measurement. Being that said, the other features like length and height or width are not so different either. But the Mustang is lighter than the Camaro and also the Challenger. Six airbags are standard (four in front with side-curtain airbags that extend to the second row), as are anti-lock brakes, traction control, and dynamic stability control. There are limited crash-test results available for the Camaro; the insurance-funded IIHS hasn't yet tested it, but the federal government has, giving it a modest four out of five stars in frontal protection but a commendable five stars inside protection. Because it's such a low, wide vehicle, it earns the federal five-star rollover rating.
Visibility, however, is a severe issue in the new Chevrolet Camaro for all sizes of drivers. The arching roofline will get in the way of tall drivers, while shorter drivers will find it hard to see their way out at some angles due to the high beltline, which rises even higher near the back. If you like its looks, the 2011 Chevrolet Camaro will deliver. And it's not totally one-dimensional. You also get a refined ride, comfortable front seats, ample feature content, a low price, and impressive performance out of the deal. But for us, the extensive compromises are just too hard to ignore. If you're looking for the most compelling muscle car to drive, our pick is the 2011 Ford Mustang. And if you're looking for the most personable and livable muscle car, that's the 2011 Dodge Challenger.
