Priced at $24,895, the Dodge Challenger Coupe goes in serious competition with the other popular affordable sports cars like the Chevrolet Camaro, the Nissan 370Z, and the Mazda RX-8. With a V6 engine on offer and a rear-wheel drive setup, the car delivers amazing performance. Retaining a retro look from the old-day Challenger, the Challenger has a vintage appeal. Despite being a muscle car, it has that comfortability and practicality which many other competitors miss out on.
As per our recommendation, the R/T is the more value-for-money deal. Coming with a V8 engine, the R/T trim will significantly deliver better results than the base V6. Additionally, the R/T trim gets all the standard features that are present in the base trim along with a few more advanced ones.

The 2011 Dodge Challenger comes in three trims mainly. These are the SE, R/T, and SRT8. The base version or the SE comes at $24,895, while the powerful and brawny SRT8 trim, which is the top-end variant comes at $42,780, which receives a steep price increase considering the base trim. The three trims of the coupe bring distinct power and performance to suit the needs of different buyers in the market.

As per our recommendation, the R/T is the more value-for-money deal. Coming with a V8 engine, the R/T trim will significantly deliver better results than the base V6. Additionally, the R/T trim gets all the standard features that are present in the base trim along with a few more advanced ones.
The 2011 Dodge Challenger Coupe is powered by a 3.6 Liter V6 engine. The engine sends 305 horsepower and 268 lb-ft of torque to the rear-wheel-drive through the 5-speed shiftable automatic transmission. However, for its class, this base engine of the Challenger has ample power to munch down all your daily driving needs.
Even the steering feels quite accurate. If you have the urge to feel extra power under the hood of your coupe, you can always go for the other two trims, which bring better outputs and performance.

In this segment, both the Japanese rivals Mazda and Nissan offer a 6-speed manual gearbox instead of an automatic to give a more sporty feel. The Nissan 370Z with its V6 engine is however the most powerful in the lot churning out a massive 332 horsepower which no other rivals could achieve. Also, it is quite fast in acceleration too, giving a 0-60mph run in just 5.6 seconds.
The Dodge Challenger with the rear-wheel drive and V6 engine on offer returns a fuel economy of 18 mpg in the city, 27 mpg on the highway and 21 mpg combined. The higher output V8 engine is definitely going to put down the economy figures by a little bit. The Mazda RX-8 with its Wankel engine is quite an oil-burner and returns an average of 16 mpg in the city, 22 mpg on the highway, and 18 mpg with combined driving.

As said, the Mazda RX-8 is the least fuel-efficient here, with below-average economy figures. Both the Nissan 370Z and the Chevrolet Camaro Coupe are better in fuel efficiency than their rival counterparts but it is the Chevrolet Camaro that delivers a better efficiency when looked at minutely. Except for the Mazda, all the cars in this segment offer a fuel tank capacity of around 19 gallons.
The 2011 Dodge Challenger SE can seat 5 passengers in total. Offering the roomiest cabin in the segment, the Dodge Challenger can be said to be the only car in this segment to offer a seating capacity of 5 people.
Though it has an appealing interior, the interior of the Challenger is quite bland. Nissan fails miserably in terms of practicality as it only offers a seating space for 2 adults only.

Inside the cabin is the large dashboard with big shifter knobs resembling the Challenger’s vintage classic appeal. Because of the rear roof pillars that are thick in size, the rearward visibility gets poor. The Dodge Challenger is also the car to shine in the cargo section where it offers a space of 16.2 cu-ft, which is the highest in the segment. Major interior features include:
The infotainment system on the Dodge Challenger consists of a CD Player and 6-speaker sound system for the entertainment requirements. However, there is a long list of available features that you can equip in the car. Available options include Bluetooth connectivity, Satellite Radio, iPod interface, Navigation system, and a Kicker 13-speaker surround sound system. Some of the important infotainment features of the Dodge Challenger are as follows:
The 2011 Dodge Challenger runs on a set of 18-inch alloy wheels and all four performance tires. The exterior appearance with the horizontal orientation of the front grille and the rear fascia aids in giving the Challenger an old-school look.
As common with Challengers, though it does not come factory fitted, you can customize the car with MOPAR fitments from the dealer to get the desired look.

The Dodge Challenger is quite a heavy car, mostly because of its size and the engine. In fact, it is the heaviest vehicle in the segment beating the Chevrolet Camaro by a few pounds. The Nissan 370Z and the Mazda RX-8 are comparatively lighter, with the Mazda being the lightest at 3,064 lbs. Major exterior features include:
With both the organizations National Highway Traffic Safety Administration(NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety(IIHS) not having done any major crash-tests on the Challenger, the safety ratings of the car are unavailable. However, the coupe comes with a variety of safety features for keeping the passengers safe inside. Some of the safety features available with the Dodge Challenger are:
The Dodge Challenger is an affordable muscle car in this segment. It offers quite a lot of features for its sticker price, but with selecting the optional upgrades, the sticker price may rise instantly. Though the interior is bland, the cabin is spacious for the most part. Also, it may not have received an official safety rating, but the features on offer make us believe that it has ample safety in its bag for driver and passenger protection. All in all, the 2011 Dodge Challenger is a considerable choice for the segment.
