Overall Rating
The Ridgeline is Honda’s attempt at the pickup truck segment. The result is the truck that can very well be used as a vehicle for a family while being very much useful for a business.
The Ridgeline is Honda’s attempt at the pickup truck segment. The result is the truck that can very well be used as a vehicle for a family while being very much useful for a business. With American pick-ups starting to show their age and signs of impracticality given the current fuel prices, there is a need for a frugal truck, and that is exactly when you need trucks like the Honda Ridgeline.
We recommend buying the Sport trim of the Honda Ridgeline because it is already expensive to start with. Higher trim levels cost a lot, but the Sport offers features like those of the RTS variants but without some luxury. However, it is one of the nicest ones to look at due to its 18-inch wheels and so on, which you get only in the RTL trim level after it. Hence, at $30,720, it is also one of the most widely sold of the Honda Ridgeline lineup.

The 2014 Honda Ridgeline is offered with a 3.5L V-6 engine that has a rather dull power output of 250 hp and 247 pound-feet of torque. The engine is mediocre and does not leave any driver smiling from ear to ear.
All Ridgelines are four-wheel-drive by default and only offered with five-speed automatic transmissions. The refinement is good, but the performance is not very engaging. The 2014 Ridgeline sprints from 0-60MPH in 6.2 seconds and covers the quarter-mile in 14.5 seconds, which makes it moderately quick.

From the results, we can see that the Honda Ridgeline is almost as powerful as the V6 version of the Tacoma and has excellent performance credentials. However, this does not really mean that the pickup is exciting to drive. In comparison, the Tacoma inline-four feels slow and does not have anything going for it in the department of performance. The GMC Canyon is not fun to drive too but has better performance credentials than the Toyota.
One would expect that the Honda would have good fuel efficiency, but that is not the case. It has a fuel tank capacity of 22 gallons and offers 15 MPG within city limits, 20 MPG on the highways, which results in a combined mileage of 17 MPG. These numbers show that the V6 is not as efficient as one would’ve expected and results in a range of 330 miles in the city and 440 miles on the highway.

We can observe from the data that Toyota really impresses the most with its amazing fuel efficiency figures, finally making us understand why the downsized four-cylinder engines were their weapon of choice. The GMC Canyon offers the second-best fuel mileage. The Ridgeline impressed us with its performance, but the trade-off for that was the huge drop it took in terms of fuel efficiency.
The Honda Ridgeline’s cabin is much more spacious than one would expect in a midsize pickup. The seats are quite wide and comfy, and access to the rear seats is also very easy. One can find that the gauges and instruments are very easy to read, and all controls are intuitive and easy to use.
The rear seats are also split foldable and can serve as a storage compartment for items if you run out of space in the available 41.4 ft.³ cargo space.

The Honda Ridgeline offers the least cargo space among its competitors, and this is an important parameter here. But it has a tailgate with two sets of hinges that can swing outward as well as to the side. This makes for easy loading and unloading. From the data, it is clear that the three competitors are very much evenly matched in terms of interior space and comfort. However, the Tacoma has lower space in the rear row and feels cramped. The GMC Canyon is very spacious inside and offers the highest amount of cargo space as well – but feels a bit outdated. The main interior features of the 2014 Honda Ridgeline include:
Like we have mentioned, the Ridgeline can improve when it comes to infotainment, mainly with features like Bluetooth being offered only in higher trims. Compared to industry standards, it is described as basic at best with features like element antenna, auxiliary audio input, and more. The main infotainment features of the 2014 Honda Ridgeline crew cab include-
The exterior styling of the Honda Ridgeline has been around for a while and needs a quick update. It is basic and purposeful but lacks the kind of sophistication that modern rivals offer in the midsize pickup truck segment.
It has good dimensions at 207 inches in length, 77 inches in width, and 70 inches in height. The extra width does translate to better interior space as well. The pickup weighs 4,504 lbs, which is again the heaviest in the segment.

The Tacoma Double Cab is larger by a slight margin in terms of length and offers better ground clearance. It is bigger than its rivals in all aspects except width, where the Honda Ridgeline is bigger. The Ridgeline is also the heaviest car in the segment mostly due to the all-wheel-drive system. The GMC Canyon is the smallest pickup on the lot and has the lowest ground clearance. The main exterior features of the 2014 Honda Ridgeline crew Cab include:
By standard, Honda offers antilock disc brakes, stability control, front-seat airbags and side curtain airbags rollover sensor, rearview camera, and active head restraints. In the IIHS crash test, it has earned the highest rating of ‘Good’ in the moderate-overlap frontal-offset, side-impact, and strength crash tests. The main safety features of the 2014 Honda Ridgeline Crew Cab include:
The 2014 Honda Ridgeline is a midsize pickup truck that is more expensive than all of its rivals. However, it offers several features that its rivals don’t, such as the V-6 engine, all-wheel-drive as well as automatic transmission as standard. The pickup definitely remains competitive in terms of its interior, which is more well-endowed than you see across its competition as well. One of the only improvements the car would need is in terms of infotainment but otherwise makes for a great choice.
