Overall Rating
The 2022 Honda Ridgeline carries forward unchanged from 2021 with prices starting from $37,640 for the base Sport trim. Now available at Honda dealerships, the 2022 Honda Ridgeline continues to attract buyers with its ride and handling, premium styling, ample practicality, and powerful engine.
Following significant updates for its 2021 model year, the 2022 Honda Ridgeline carries forward unchanged. The only exception is the new "Sonic Gray Pearl" exterior paint scheme introduced for 2022. Available at a starting MSRP of $37,640 at a Honda dealership near you, the 2022 Honda Ridgeline continues to stand out in a crowded league lifestyle pickup trucks.
While the new Hyundai Santa Cruz and Ford Maverick follow the Ridgeline's recipe, they are significantly smaller than the Honda here. What that means is that the Honda Ridgeline still flies in a league of its own with no direct rivals. A unibody platform shared with the Honda Pilot, powerful V6 engine, and a good sense of practicality, make the Ridgeline a perfect pickup truck to live with every day. However, in a contested segment, the Ridgeline does face stiff competition from the likes of Ford Ranger, Chevrolet Colorado, Toyota Tacoma, Nissan Frontier, and the GMC Canyon,
Our recommendation for the trim to choose will be the RTL trim as it fits the bill perfectly when it comes to value for money. Standard features like Remote Engine start, One-Touch moonroof, among many others add to the premium experience of owning the Ridgeline RTL

"The 2022 Honda Ridgeline ranks highly among compact pickup trucks. Though it can't tow as much as class rivals, it offers easy-going performance and a refined, roomy interior".- Cars.U.S.News
With no changes in place, the 2022 Honda Ridgeline retains the four-level structure of its outgoing 2021 model. Buyers still get to choose between Sport (Base), RTL, RTL-E and Black Edition models. MSRP for the 2022 Honda Ridgeline starts at an MSRP of $37,640 for the base models and tops out at just over $45,000 for the fully loaded Black Label trim.
As earlier a 3.5-liter V6 powers the 2022 Ridgeline with a sole AWD drivetrain. This comes after Honda discontinued the FWD drivetrain from the Ridgeline lineup in 2021. However, following its 2021 update, the Ridgeline now comes packed with an extensive suite of creature comforts and safety features which promise an outstanding value for its asking price.

"Steering and handling of the Honda Ridgeline are unrivaled among midsize pickups — this is where the benefits of being a car-based truck shine through". - Edmunds
Similar to its predecessors, the 2022 Honda Ridgeline comes with a familiar 3.5-liter V6 engine. Mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission, the engine produces 280 hp and 262 lb-ft of torque. This is the same engine that is also seen in the likes of the Honda Passport. Honda’s Intelligent Variable Traction Management torque-vectoring AWD comes as standard with the 2022 Ridgeline and the system is able to direct up to 70% of the torque to the rear wheels.
Speaking of the engine, it feels refined smooth, and aptly capable in the day-to-day tasks. Power comes in quick and smooth and the 9-speed automatic is also precise in its duties. Sprinting from 0-60 MPH comes in just 7.2 seconds which is not the quickest in the competition here but is quick enough for a pickup for sure. While its towing capacity of 5000 lbs may be lower than its rivals the Ridgeline compensates well with its dynamic overall character.

Where the Ridgeline truly stands out from the crowd is with its ride and handling. The unibody suspension helps it with unparalleled comfort among its segment and the Ridgeline glides over potholes with minimal hassle. With better stability and composure, the Ridgeline feels more like a car. The steering feels sharp and direct for its class and lets you know what's happening down the wheels. Body motions are well controlled and quick maneuvers come with ease as well.
With its same old 3.5-liter V6 engine, comes familiar fuel economy as well. This means that the 2022 Honda Ridgeline continues to promise a 21 MPG combined fuel economy. With standard AWD, this is indeed a handsome economy for a pickup. Furthermore, with a 21-gallon fuel tank, the 2022 Ridgeline can also run up to 410 miles in combined driving conditions with a full tank.

When compared to its close rivals with base 2WD guise, the Ridgeline does tend to be a bit low on the economy side. While the GMC Canyon and Chevrolet Colorado are as efficient as the Honda here, its the Ford Ranger wich shines bright with its best in class 23 MPG combined fuel economy. This is because of the fact that the Ford uses a comparatively smaller 2.3-liter turbo EcoBoost engine.
"The Ridgeline’s roomy cabin, sedan-like demeanor and ability to tackle most of the edge case uses make it one of the friendliest trucks around, and the easiest to live with day to day".- Forbes
With the 2021 refresh, Honda worked on the interior of the pickup as well. The Ridgeline's already magnificent interior was enhanced furthermore by adding some modern touches and the same continues for the 2022 model. Enter the 2022 Ridgeline and you are greeted with a roomy cabin with a wide dashboard and a far more upscale presentation than what you would see in its rivals.
The Ridgeline on the inside feels like a proper car. However, noteworthy is the fact that with its 2021 update, the Ridgeline also received better quality materials on the inside. Talking interior space, well it was never a problem for the Ridgeline. In fact, it offered the best cabin space in its segment. The Ridgeline offers a decent cargo capacity as well. The Ridgeline also gets a flat floor and foldaway 60/40-split rear seat bottoms.

The Ridgeline takes the lead in terms of cabin space. It will feel roomier as the shoulder room it provides is unchallenged. Not only in the first row but in the second row too, the Ridgeline is more likely to fill all 5 seats and not feel uncomfortable. The Ford Ranger on the other hand has a more simplified approach, making both its rows seemingly the same size, just with reduced legroom in the rear row.
For infotainment, the 2022 Honda Ridgeline carries forward its 8.0-inch touchscreen which comes standard with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The higher models also add up niceties like satellite radio, navigation and wireless smartphone charging. The crisp and bright infotainment screen offers good visibility and its clean interface makes it very easy to use, even while driving around town.
Interior Features
"Apart from the new optional color (Sonic Gray Pearl) for 2022, the Honda Ridgeline is unchanged. That’s a good thing because the Ridgeline was dramatically restyled just last year. Honda, to our eye, made the Ridgeline look more like a traditional pickup".- Kelley Blue Book
The Honda Ridgeline has always been one of the better-looking pickup trucks out there. However, with a significant exterior refresh for 2021, Honda further polished the Ridgeline's appeal and presence. The most significant update was of course the rugged exterior kit which brings the Ridgeline in line with most of its segment rivals. No wonder, with recent updates, the 2022 Honda Ridgeline carries forward its exterior design with no changes.
The Ridgeline doesn't need a change either, since its recently updated front grille with mesh-pattern and black inserts make it look far more rugged than its predecessors. The revised front bumper alongside HPD (Honda Performance Development) exterior package adds further muscle to its character. The HPD package brings in HPD graphics on bed walls, bronze alloy wheels, black overfenders and of course the blacked-out front grille and bumper.

Overall, unlike the more raw and brawny competitors in its segment, the 2022 Honda Ridgeline still packs a good amount of sophistication and humbleness in its character. Buyers with a corner for muscle and any-terrain capability though would certainly prefer something like a Colorado Z71. Even the other rivals have a tall-guy persona in them. The Ridgeline's exterior aesthetics though still instantly remind you of its unibody roots from the Pilot.
Exterior Features:
"Good safety tech and decent crash-test ratings keep the 2022 Honda Ridgeline safe".- The Car Conection
According to the NHTSA crash test results, the 2021 Ridgeline got an overall rating of 5-star with only one 4 star rating in the rollover test. This is particularly great news when we consider that the 2022 model year Ridgeline is based on the 2021 model. Another thing to rejoice in is the number of safety features that are available with the 2022 model year.
Just as the current model, every trim of the 2022 Ridgeline comes equipped with Honda Safety Sense which is an array of driver-assist highlights that offers Front Collision Mitigation and Automated Emergency Braking as standard. Other safety features range from basic Traction Control and Electronic Stability Program to Lane Keep Assist and Blind Spot Monitoring in the higher trim levels.
Safety Features:
The Chevrolet Colorado is one of the best-sellers from GM and is one powerful pick-up truck. It offers a potent powertrain and feels surprisingly fun to drive as well. On the flip side, Colorado is bogged down by its poor interior quality and a lesser amount of space on the inside. The Ridgeline comes with a spacious comfortable interior and impressive fuel mileage.
The Ridgeline offers Honda's legendary reliability and a long list of safety features while Colorado manages to do a lot of things well that is expected by a buyer from this category. Be it the towing or payload capabilities, or the ability to take the road less taken Colorado is more of a pickup truck than the Ridgeline.
The Ford Ranger is one of the best-selling pickups in its segment thanks to it being a better performer in terms of speed as well as handling with a greater level of predictability. With good fuel mileage and ride quality, the Ranger is one potent pickup. The Ridgeline comes with a lot of tech features, utility, comfort, and style and is often considered by a lot of buyers looking for function over form.
The Ranger beats the Ridgeline in terms of performance and capabilities, but the Honda has a clear edge when it comes to riding comfort and practicality. So if its form over function for you, the Ranger should be your pick. but for everything else, go for the Honda.
With the rising competition amongst midsize pickups, the 2022 Honda Ridgeline manages to create its own niche in a segment that is dominated by American manufacturers. With its no-nonsense design, spacious and thoughtfully designed interiors, good payload, and cargo capacity, the Ridgeline manages to tick a lot of boxes in the minds of customers looking for a practical pickup. Sure, the Ridgeline may not be the most fun to drive or be as exciting to look at as some of its rivals, but for what it offers, there sure is no beating the 2022 Ridgeline.
