Another year hits the calendar and the Q60 remains unchanged. While the year marks for differing taste and the reboot of wagons in the American scene, the coupes are neglected in some way.
Another year hits the calendar, and theInfiniti Q60 has seen a major revamp for this year’s model. While the year marks for differing taste and the reboot of wagons in the American scene, the coupes are neglected in some way. Infiniti though has confidence in the Q60 but the lack of change makes it a little skeptical for the year.
The 2017 Infiniti Q60 is powered by either a 2.0-liter turbocharged or a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6. All the engine options generate a high powered output and provide great overall performance. Starting at a price of around $39,000, the Infinity is an affordable and powerful luxury vehicle.
We would recommend the 2.0t Premium trim as it offers most of the features as standard, like the leather upholstery, power-adjustable seats, Bose audio system, and many more. We would add the Driver assistance package with the trim that adds multiple safety features. Available at a price of around $44,000, this trim provides better value for money spent.

The Q60 Red Sport is the top trim in the Q60 range. The Q60 also has two lower trims which are powered by the same 3.0L turbocharged V6 engine, but in a lower state of tune to produce 300 horsepower. The Red Sport trim gets 400 horsepower from the same engine, bigger brakes, adaptive suspension, all of which come together to make the Q60 Red Sport a very different car. Every trim of the Q60 is available in two variants rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive.

Inside the long elegant hood, the Q60 hides a 3.0L Twin-turbo V6 engine mated to a 7-speed automatic transmission. This standard powertrain drills out 300 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. The engine remains a free spirit right from the start. Your foot remains in charge of frequent bursts of power ready to zoom the car with every push.
The 7-speed automatic transmission does not share a similar positive vibe. It's slow and uninspiring, which hits a rock bottom with the paddle shifters which rather than making the shifts quick does the opposite. There is a notable lag in the shifts, which can be gruesome for any enthusiast.

TheGenesis G70 is the most powerful vehicle in this comparison. With a slightly bigger engine than the Q60, the Genesis generates around 365 hp which is staggering. Likewise, the2017 Audi A5 is the least powerful with a power output of 252 hp. The Lexus has the biggest engine and provides a slightly better power output of 311 hp than the Infiniti Q60.
The engine feels eager, still, it's the fastest coupe in the lot. It takes 5.0 seconds to race to 60 mph which is pretty respectable for the Q60 and in the segment. However, the Germans took the center stage with their brute muscle strength.
Still, the Q60 is fast enough to pin you back on your seat as you nail the accelerator down. It's something you will witness in many cars, but coming from an Infiniti, it's something commendable.

The2017 Genesis G70 is the fastest in this comparison with a 0-60 mph acceleration of 4.5 seconds. The Infiniti Q60 and Audi A5 have a similar 0-60 timing of 5 seconds, while the Audi is slightly quicker in the quarter-mile acceleration. The Genesis is quickest in the quarter-mile acceleration as well with a time of 13 sec, while the Infiniti Q60 takes 13.9 seconds. The Lexus RC is the slowest in the lot at both the 0-60 and quarter-mile acceleration.
The Q60 has a pretty good ride quality for what it is. In its comfort mode, the suspension is soft and supple and soaks up undulations really well. The cabin is quiet and pleasant even when cruising at higher speeds. Road noise and wind noise also seem to be well insulated. Not quite perfect but still pretty good. Dial-up the notches to the Sports+ mode, and the suspension gets firm but not to the point that it gets harsh. It does not lean around corners and maintains its balance quite well indeed.
Shuffling between the drive modes brings about quite some change in the car's character, most noticeable being the throttle response, which goes from quite lazy in normal mode to aggressive and adequately responsive in the Sport+ mode. However, what's disappointing is the steering in the Q60, which lets the entire experience quite down indeed. The Q60 uses a drive-by-wire steering system, and there is absolutely no connection with the wheels. The system feels very artificial, and at no point do you know where your wheels are, it allows no feedback at all. The car will still go where you point it to but it feels weird and would take some time to get used to.
There are bigger brakes in the Red Sport, however, the standard Q60 employs comparatively smaller brakes. The brakes are pretty good and they provide good stopping power.
The Q60 takes 113 ft to halt from 60 mph, which though not the best, is again pretty respectable in the lot. The pedal remains calm and composed without any fade, which is a trait of efficiency in a driver's car.

The Genesis again outclasses the lot with its comparatively bigger brakes that help it achieve a braking distance of 109 feet from 60 mph. The2017 Lexus RC takes the maximum distance of 120 feet to come to a standstill from 60 mph. When it comes to curb weight, all the sedans fall in the 3700-3800 lbs category.
The Q60 does not have an appetite for fuel, though it's not exactly a frugal one either. Surprisingly, the extra power on the Red Sport trim doesn't have the slightest effect on fuel economy. Hence, you can enjoy better power and performance without sacrificing mileage. On the other hand, it's not the most lucrative thing for the standard Q60 buyer. In the city, the Q60 delivers 19 mpg mileage while the highway run stretched to 28 mpg. It's similar to what other brands are offering.

Here the smaller engine and lower power output help the Audi A5 to achieve the best fuel economy in comparison. It provides a combined mileage of 27 mpg which is much better than any other vehicle here. The Lexus follows the Audi with a combined mileage of 23 mpg. The Genesis G70 has the least fuel economy of 21 mpg, which was expected.
While it looks gorgeous on the outside, the inside does not have the same story. While the design and layout of the interiors are quite pleasing, the dual-screen setup is really not cool. Automobile manufacturers should understand that a screen for all operations in a vehicle is not convenient at all. Operating the screens requires you to take your eyes off the road while you are driving and the screen itself is not very responsive to touch. There is a noticeable lag there.
The upper screen is the navigation and media screen, while the lower one controls the climate controls and various other vehicle functions. The upper screen is flanked by the AC vents on both sides and the lower one has a stack of physical buttons on either side. The console then has a sweeping flow down the center to house the gear lever and the infotainment control.

The rest of the cabin is quite pleasing though and has been put together quite aesthetically. The quality of materials is really nice and fit, and the finish is good too. There is a nice glossy carbon fiber-like trim on the doors and dashboard which looks quite cool. The instrument cluster has two analog dials with a small screen in between them. The Q60 has screened at the wrong places it seems.
The Infiniti Q60 and the Genesis G70 can carry up to 5 passengers in the cabin, while the Lexus RC and the Audi A5 can accommodate only 4 passengers. The Audi A5 provides the best spacing for all the passengers with its higher passenger volume and lower number of people inside the cabin. The Infiniti Q60 seems to have a smaller cabin but provides decent spacing for all the occupants.
The dual screen setup is the only major point of disappointment in the Q60. The graphics on the upper media screen is not so great, and the system is really slow to respond to touch inputs. It can also be controlled via a rotary dial on the center console, and it's better to use it that way. Overall, the system feels dated.
The lower screen, which looks after climate controls and various other vehicle settings, is very distracting to use while driving, and this too is quite slow to react to inputs. The graphics are somewhat better, and there are a few shortcut buttons stacked on either side of the screen. We are not many fans of this system ,and we would have really liked some simpler physical buttons and dials. Here is a list of infotainment features available in the Infiniti Q60:
The Infiniti Q60 has the smallest boot in the segment at just 8.7 cu.ft of space. The other coupes have almost double the cargo capacity of the Q60. Still, it will pack in a couple of medium-sized bags and a little more maybe. It will pack more than what it seems it can pack at least.

The Audi A5 has the biggest cargo volume of 21.8 cu.ft which is massive in this comparison. It can easily carry multiple luggage bags and is perfect for long trips carrying all the luggage for 4 passengers. The Lexus RC and the Genesis G70 have a similar cargo volume of around 10.5 cu.ft, which is slightly better than the Q60 but yet not enough.Â
The Q60 is a very good looking car indeed, and it has very good proportions for a sports coupe. The front fascia is dominated by the large quadrangle Infiniti grille with kinks near the headlamps. The headlamps themselves are very stylish with very cool LED DRLs. The front bumper is quite aggressive with cuts and creases and also houses the fog lamps with a chrome garnish around them.
When looked at from the side, one can see the beautiful proportions of the car with a nice silhouette. The sides are primarily dominated by sweeping curves and creases to make for some muscular rear haunches. There's an air scoop just behind the front wheels, and the large 20-inch wheels look stunning. However, the window line has a rather awkward kink in the rear quarter which for some is the only fly in the ointment.

The rear quarter is perhaps the most attractive angle of the car. The sloping roofline comes down to make a tiny boot spoiler, and the LED tail lamps are very sleek and smart. It certainly looks like it belongs to a much premium car. A curvy posterior and a few more cuts in the bumper finished off with a mild diffuser and twin exhaust pipes complete the look for the Q60 Red Sport. The detailing on the exhaust pipes are also really impressive.
The Q60 closely follows Genesis G70 when it comes to dimensions. It is 6 inches shorter from a full-fledged executive, which means this coupe has a lot of space. It is 72.8 inches in width from ear to ear. Most of its long length is endured on the wheelbase rather than the cargo, which is a major issue.
NHTSA has not tested the 2017 Infiniti Q60, but the IIHS has given a ‘Good’ rating for all the segments of the Q60. The Red Sport package adds a rich safety suit, which is not there for the standard Q60. Apart from standard airbags, the car comes with a lot of active safety features such as Forward Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection and Lane Departure Prevention with Active Lane Control. In fact, the list of safety features in the Red Sport make it one of the best in the segment in terms of safety. Here is a list of the safety features available in the Q60:
The Lexus RC 300 costs a few thousand dollars more than the 2017 Infiniti Q60, but it justifies its price tag. Lexus offers better performance, and there is also a good amount of feedback from the steering.
The RC also has a zestier engine, as its most powerful engine makes 467 hp which is more than the Q60 Red Sport 400. But the Lexus has a slower acceleration and lacks braking performance. Both the coupe meanwhile has a cramped rear seat and a clunky infotainment system.
The Genesis G70 beats the Infiniti Q60 in almost all of the segments. It has a bigger engine than the Q60 and produces 65 horses more.
This provides it extra power which translates into better performance. It is quick on acceleration, has a bigger setup that provides great braking performance, and has a higher top speed. But all this power consumes more power and thus affects the fuel economy.
The Audi A5 has the smallest engine and thus generates comparatively less power output than the Infiniti Q60. But this smaller engine provides better fuel economy than any other vehicle in this comparison.
The Audi provides similar acceleration timings and top speed and thus competes head-on with the more powerful Infiniti. But the Audi has a better interior design and provides great comfort to the passengers.
Infinity has designed an almost perfect coupe at such a price point. The engine is powerful and provides great performance in comparison. The exterior is newly designed, which makes the vehicle more attractive and provides a luxurious feeling inside out. However, it's not a bulletproof offer, the clumsy transmission takes out the fun of driving, also the dual-screen infotainment is showing its age. Otherwise, it's a worthy option for your consideration.
