Overall Rating
For 2019, Subaru is introducing a facelifted version of its mighty popular Impreza Sedan. Starting at an MSRP of $18,595 for the base 2.0i variant, the Impreza is the only car in the segment that offers AWD across all variants as Standard. This makes it one of the best sedans, to drive in the cold and unforgiving conditions that are present in certain parts of the country.
For a while now, the Subaru Impreza has been a favorite for Subaru loyalists and driving enthusiasts. Subarus of the past has always been associated with reliability, practicality, and great resale value. Subaru is introducing a facelifted version of its mighty popular 2019 Subaru Impreza Sedan. Starting at an MSRP of $18,595 for the Base 2.0i variant, the Subaru Impreza specs are quite decent from the Base trim itself.
The Impreza is the only car in the compact sedan segment that offers AWD across all variants as standard. The Base trim is sparsely equipped and thus we suggest going for the Premium trim which packs in enough features that are necessary while at the same time not very pricey. It is a bang for the buck option available at an MSRP of $21,595 and there is also an option to include the CVT with paddle shifts.

We Recommend
The Base trim is sparsely equipped and thus we suggest going for the Premium trim which packs in enough features that are necessary while at the same time not very pricey. It is a bang for the buck option and available at an MSRP of $21,595. There is also an option to include the CVT with paddle shifts.
The 2019 Subaru Impreza engine is the same as last year's model and thus comes with the much-loved 2.0-liter flat-4 boxer engine that produces 152 horsepower and 145 pound-feet of torque. It is coupled with a continuously variable transmission along with an optional five-speed manual transmission. Only the Base and Sport trim is available with the manual transmission, while the top trims have both options.
The 2019 Subaru Impreza AWD system is available as standard all across the trim levels. It is a great addition to the engine setup that provides it much better performance. While the 2019 Subaru Impreza is not the most powerful in this segment, it is the most affordable at a base price of $18,595. The 2019 Hyundai Elantra with the same engine volume produces 5 horses less than the Subaru.

The Subaru Impreza comes with enough power and has the most amount of torque at its disposal. The 2019 Honda Civic produces the most power and is closely followed by the Impreza. While CVT comes standard for the 2019 Toyota Corolla and Hyundai Elantra, it is an optional extra for the Impreza and only comes standard in higher trims.
The 2019 Subaru Impreza Sedan accelerates from 0-60 mph in 9.0 seconds. With its boxer engine and an AWD system, the Subaru is heavier and sluggish when compared to the rest of the competition. Along with that, the quarter-mile distance is covered under 17.0 seconds by the 2019 Impreza sedan.
The continuously variable transmission of the 2019 Subaru Impreza is quite slow in the initial acceleration. But it takes up charge high higher speeds and thus provides a decent quarter-mile timing. The same is seen with the 2019 Toyota Corolla, where it beats the Elantra in the quarter-mile acceleration.

Subaru has always maintained a good track record for handling and driving dynamics. The standard AWD system increases the stability of the sedan while at the same time providing precise steering. Handling is one of the strong points for the Impreza as the body roll is well controlled and the car seems to respond very well to the steering inputs. It is one of the only sedans in the price point to offer an all-wheel-drive system that offers plenty of grip and confidence.
The 2019 Subaru Impreza has a comfortable ride across the range of trims. The Sport trim with its stiffer shocks and 18-inch alloy wheels also offers a considerably pleasant ride. The Subaru Impreza Sport trim takes things up a level with brake torque vectoring that tightens the inside wheel’s brake caliper in difficult corners for abrupt, tight cornering.
The 2019 Subaru Impreza Sedan comes to halt from 60 mph in under 121 feet. The Subaru fairs better than the Toyota Corolla while matches the figure put forth by the Hyundai. The Subaru also comes with an ABS for better braking performance.
The Impreza has disc brakes measuring 10.9 inches at the front along with 10.8-inch brakes at the rear but still lacks behind the Civic. The 2019 Honda Civic and Hyundai Elantra have slightly bigger brakes as compared to their competitors. This provides better braking surface area and thus a better stopping distance.

The Honda Civic takes the least braking distance to come to halt at 113 feet, while the Hyundai Elantra takes the same braking distance. The Toyota Corolla has a similar brake setup as that of the Impreza but still takes 4 more feet to come to a halt from 60 mpg.
The 2019 Subaru Impreza Sedan puts up adequate figures when it comes to fuel economy. Especially with the CVT system and the 2 L boxer engine, the Imprezza is considerably fuel-efficient with 23 mpg for regular city driving and 31 mpg when on the highway. Thus we get a combined fuel economy of 26 mpg from the 2019 Impreza sedan. Given that the AWD system makes the car much heavier than its competition, it falls behind the rest of the competition.

The Subaru also offers a 13.2-gallon fuel tank that will help in keeping the Impreza on the road for at least 343 miles without refueling. The 2019 Hyundai Elantra has a slightly higher fuel tank capacity of 14-gallons that provides the least range of 420 miles.
The 2019 Subaru Impreza Sedan's interior offers plenty of space and comfort. the interior design has been improved a few years ago and is one of the most ergonomic in this segment. The base trims get cloth upholstery along with soft finishes on the dashboard and the door. Higher variant trims come with leather upholstery which is much more comfortable and feels premium. The Impreza sedan provides considerable spacing at both the front and the rear.
The 2019 Impreza Sedan comes standard with a center console with an armrest bin, a sizable glove box, dual cup holders in the center console, and a single bottle holder in each door panel with extended door pockets also practical for storage of small items. The rear seats offer split-folding capability to facilitate the loading of larger objects.

It is an all-around car that offers great value for money as well as a good driving experience.
The 2019 Toyota Corolla has a smaller engine and an FWD system. That means that the Toyota Corolla is sluggish when compared to the Subaru. The Corolla also offers plenty of space inside the cabin along with slightly better trunk space than the Impreza. It is a very practical car. The only drawback is the power output, where the Subaru has the edge. The Subaru also comes with an AWD system while the Corolla has standard FWD.
The 2019 Hyundai Elantra is the most spacious in the range with ample room in the front and at the rear. The Hyundai Elantra is similarly priced to the Subaru Impreza and has a premium exterior design. It also packs a lot of features right from the base model which the Subaru Impreza lacks.
