"It's certainly a plus that the Impreza is one of the few cars in the class with all-wheel drive."-Edmunds.com
The 2020 Subaru Impreza comes with a 2L double overhead cam 4-cylinder Boxer motor. This motor produces a respectable 152hp at 6,000 RPM and 145 lb-ft of torque at 4,000 RPM, which is the highest torque from any car in its segment. Though this motor is decently powerful in comparison to the rivals, the bottom end torque is quite mediocre and is a pain to drive within the city limits. However, the mid-range and top-end performance are quite decent for the segment.
This motor is paired to a 5-speed manual transmission as well as a Lineartronic CVT automatic, which comes as an optional extra with all the trims. The 2020 Subaru Impreza is also offered with the AWD system, making it the only compact sedan in the segment which gets AWD as standard. Though the manual transmission of the 2020 Impreza works quite effortlessly due to the slick-shifts on offer, the CVT makes life quite easier. This CVT transmission also doesn't feel lethargic like some of the rivals.
With a naturally aspirated Boxer motor which felt quite dull when it comes to the outright acceleration, the 2020 Subaru Impreza managed to do 0-60 MPH and quarter-mile run in 9 seconds and 16.6 seconds respectively. The rivals like the 2020 Hyundai Elantra and 2020 Toyota Corolla came out with better 0-60 MPH numbers, doing the same feat in 7.8 seconds and 8.4 seconds. However, the 2020 Honda Civic thrashes the 2020 Impreza in the 0-60 MPH run with a time of 6.4 seconds.

Though the 2020 Subaru Impreza was not the most performance-centric compact sedan of the segment, we found the suspension and brakes of the moniker to be one of the best of the lot. The 2020 Impreza did a 60-0 MPH braking test in just 121 feet, which is slightly higher than that of the 2020 Honda Civic, taking just 113 feet. The suspension is set on to the neutral side and hence body roll and understeer are minimal too. Ride quality is also excellent.
The 2020 Subaru Impreza managed to return a fuel mileage of 23 MPG in the city and 31 MPG on the highway, with a combined rating of 26 MPG. However, if you opt for the standard manual transmission moniker, you could see a dip of 1 MPG from the highway and city gas mileage of the 2020 Subaru Impreza.

The 2020 Subaru Impreza also gave out a respectable 304 miles of city range and 409 miles of highway range, which combines to 343 miles. The inclusion of a 13.2-gallon fuel tank also helps in lesser fuel brakes. Nevertheless, you would get a slightly lower combined range if you go with the 5-speed manual transmission model of the 2020 Subaru Impreza.
The 2020 Hyundai Elantra turned out to be the most fuel-efficient offering of the segment, offering a combined gas mileage of 35 MPG and is followed by the 2020 Toyota Corolla with 33 MPG. The 2020 Honda Civic also managed to come out with slightly better-combined gas mileage of 29 MPG. All the rivals except the 2020 Honda Civic offer a bigger tank capacity too.
"The Impreza's cabin benefits from soft-touch plastics, cushy armrests, and impressive fit and finish."-Caranddriver.com
The 2020 Subaru Impreza comes in two different colors for the interior, namely Ivory and Black for all the four trims on offer. Though there has been a material change to the upholstery and interior trims like the door cards and dashboard, the design of the interior is identical to the outgoing 2019 Subaru Impreza. The 2020 Impreza also comes with many features like a 6.5 or 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple Car Play, automatic climate control system, optional moonroof, 6-speaker audio system, leather steering wheel, navigation support, and many more. The 2020 Impreza also gets a host of optional features and packages as well.
The 2020 Impreza leaves no stone unturned when it comes to spaciousness. There is enough room for 5 people to sit comfortably. The headroom, legroom, and shoulder room for both the front and rear-seat passengers turned out to be excellent. However, the 2020 honda Civic also comes close in terms of space on offer, followed by the 2020 Toyota Corolla and 2020 Hyundai Elantra. The trunk capacity of 12.3 cubic feet offered by the 2020 Subaru Impreza is the lowest of the segment which is lead by the 2020 Honda Civic with 15.1 cubic feet.

The navigation support is offered as an option with the highest Limited trim of the 2020 Impreza. "The Subaru Impreza's styling is handsome—if a little anonymous"-Caranddriver.com
The 2020 Subaru Impreza gets a lot of updates from the outgoing 2019 Impreza, mostly to the front and rear sections of this compact sedan. The front end received a revamped headlights, bumper, and grille, whereas, the rear section sees a restyled taillights only. The front headlights get a neatly integrated LED DRL coupled with automatic high beam assist too. Along with that, the 2020 Impreza also gets 17-inch machine-finished aluminum-alloy wheels.
The front and rear fog lamps, chrome garnish on the sides and front sections, and body-colored and heated side mirrors with integrated side indicators all come as standard too. The 2020 Subaru Impreza comes in seven different exterior color schemes, which include the newly added Blue Pearl color palette. Along with that, the 2020 Impreza also gets many optional extras like a Crossbar set, Thule bike Carrier, Thule Kayak Carrier, trunk spoiler, etc for an additional cost.

2021 Subaru Forester: Trims, Performance, Interior, MPG, and Rivals Comparison
Due to the inclusion of many driver assistance and safety features as standard, the 2020 Subaru Impreza managed to get a 5-star overall crash safety rating in the NHTSA crash test. The 2020 Impreza's equipped with the EyeSight driver-assistance suite was chosen as the top safety pick of the compact sedan segment by the IIHS as well.
The 2020 Subaru Impreza comes with a host of optional driver assistance features like forward-collision warning, automated emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, and lane-keeping assist. Along with that, the 2020 Impreza also gets all the basic safety features like airbags, ABS with EBD, traction control, electronic stability control, and many more too.
The 2020 Honda Civic is zippy and nimble to drive and offers excellent driving dynamics for the segment. The power delivery, space, and gas mileage are arguably some of the best in its segment too. If you want something that is a complete package and willing to pay a little extra for it, the 2020 Honda Civic is the car for you. However, the Subaru Impreza offers a more spacious and well-put-together interior. It gets more optional driver-assistance features too.
The 2020 Toyota Corolla offers a smaller engine that delivers lesser power and torque in comparison to the 2020 Impreza. It is also not as spacious and comfortable to travel in too. However, the 2020 Corolla has a better fuel economy and offers the best-in-class JD Power rating of 85 out of 100. The 2020 Corolla is also marginally faster than the 2020 Impreza, even with a deficit in performance numbers.
The 2020 Hyundai Elantra offers better 0-60 MPH and quarter-mile figures even with a lower horsepower and torque rating. The 2020 Elantra also scores high in the fuel economy and features on offer, in comparison to the 2020 Impreza. However, the 2020 Subaru Impreza manages to edge out when it comes to the handling and ride quality front, making the car more involving to drive. The Impreza gets a better quality interior as well.
The 2020 Subaru Impreza turned out to be more impressive than the outgoing 2019 Impreza due to the inclusion of many interior and safety features, making it one of the best options in the compact sedan segment for a family. The driving experience and ride quality on offer are class-leading too. However, the performance from the 2L Boxer motor and gas mileage is not its forte. The car also looks slightly dated in comparison to the futuristic designs of the 2020 Hyundai Elantra and the 2020 Honda Civic. Hence, if you are looking for a no-nonsense daily driver with an impeccable AWD system, the 2020 Subaru Impreza ticks all the right boxes.
