Toyota has taken care to provide all the latest technological offerings in the Land Cruiser to make it a breeze to drive both on and off roads.
Toyota has managed to create a vehicle which ages like fine wine. The first Toyota Land Cruiser rolled out in 1951 and has not stopped thereafter! The last major upgrade was done in 2016. There has been minor upgrades thereafter and the latest iteration has a few cosmetic upgrades.
The Base variant is the sensible one to get. Apart from the fact that the Heritage Variant is limited to 1200 units, it doesn’t offer anything major for the extra premium. A few cosmetic changes are all we get. So the Heritage is not really worth the extra $2328 and the good old base variant is sensible of the two.

The 2020 Toyota Land Cruiser is powered by a 5.7L V8 powerhouse which chucks out 381 horses and 401lb-ft of torque. Power is transmitted via an 8-Speed wizardry to all 4 wheels which helps the Landcruiser to crawl literally on any terrain. With a price tag of $85315, it is not the cheapest SUV out there. It does justify the price tag with exceptional offroading capabilities and an ever so comfortable interior.
Powered by a 5.7L V8 gasoline engine, the 2020 Toyota Land Cruiser produces 381hp at 5600rpm and 401 lb-ft of torque at 3600 rpm.
The 8-speed transmission does the work of pulling this behemoth over any terrain possible. It is also equipped with a 2-speed transfer case and a locking center differential.

The Lincoln Navigator L is the most powerful of the lot, courtesy of its twin-turbocharged 3.5L V6. The 10-speed gearbox helps in transmitting the power. But the ride is much more jerky because of the twin turbo setup which has an irregular power delivery cycle. All the others have a linear setup which makes them tamable.
The 2020 Toyota Land Cruiser in spite of weighing close to two tonnes, crosses the 60 miles mark in 6.8 seconds which is very impressive.
With a quarter-mile of 15.1 seconds, this is a pretty quick SUV. The 8-speed transmission is programmed to upshift prematurely for increased fuel economy.

Toyota has always given extra focus on driving dynamics. The Land Cruiser is not an exception as well. The body is attached to a ladder frame which is ideal for a no-nonsense SUV. The rear has a solid axle and independent suspension at the front. The steering is light which helps in moving the huge Toyota with ease. Standard tires provide a good grip but the suspension is on the softer side. This
makes curvy roads uncomfortable.Toyota’s Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System makes the ride comfortable on highways but it excels on uneven terrains where it’s meant to be. This system utilizes anti-roll bars that disconnect at lower speeds for more wheel travel depending on the terrain.
The Toyota Land Cruiser has enough stopping power to bring the 2-tonner to a stop from 60 mph in 121 ft. . It has ABS-equipped Disc brakes all around with a rotor diameter of 13.9 inches at front and 13.6 inches at the rear.
It offers a decent bite and instills confidence when offroading.

The interior of the 2020 Toyota Land Cruiser doesn’t mimic its functionality. It is rather comfortable and luxurious when compared to other SUVs. It has a host of driver and passenger-friendly features to cocoon them in comfort while it devours various terrains!
The Land Cruiser is a 8-seater with three rows of seats. The first and second rows are comfortable and spacious but the third one is only good for kids.
The seats are upholstered with semi-aniline leather and wooden trims are added into the dashboard. It makes sure that its occupants are comfortable while it climbs mountains.

The Land Cruiser provides 16.1 cubic feet of cargo space with all the three rows of seat up. This low volume is because of the addition of the third row and a compact wheelbase. The 2020 Toyota Land Cruiser has been designed very boldly. The sheer size of it and the huge grille never lets it go unnoticed. The signature LED lighting and “LandCruiser” logo on the side moldings celebrates its presence. LED headlamps and taillights help bring a refreshed look to the ageless SUV.
The A-pillars have been designed to facilitate maximum field of view so that the SUV is easy to maneuver in cities as well.

Being an offroader, Toyota has bathed the Land Cruiser in all the latest safety features available. This makes driving the vehicle a lot more easier and comforting. It is equipped with Toyota Safety Sense and Safety Connect which are custom-tailored security bundles which make the Toyota a very safe place to be in.
Safety Features
The Navigator is a long SUV. Its proportions are not practical to be used for offroading which makes it very clumsy. It balances the added weight by producing 450 hp which makes it the most powerful of the lot. But it has a very extreme character which doesn’t help in its purpose. It only excels on roads and that too on highways. It will be a headache to maneuver something of this magnitude in cities. The Land Cruiser provides a sensible and balanced structure that instills confidence to go anywhere. These characteristics completely mask its inferior performance figures which makes it the better of the two.
Toyota Land Cruiser SUV vs Cadillac Escalade ESV
The Cadillac is also a very powerful SUV trailing behind the Navigator in terms of performance. The Cadillac has very poor driving ergonomics which makes it tough to live with. It is the longest car of the lot which makes moving it hard. Toyota, on the other hand, is a fine example of balancing size and power to provide the maximum output which makes it the David in this test.
The Levante is an odd addition as it is a two-row SUV whereas the Toyota Land Cruiser is an 8 seater 3 row SUV. This made to the list as it costs more than the Toyota and produces more power as well. But the marginal power bump is not enough to showcase its benefit over the Land Cruiser.T he Maserati focuses only on the performance perspective which doesn't help it in overshadowing the Toyota
The Lexus is technically a Toyota Land Cruiser with different clothing. As both the SUVs share all of the resources, this is a subjective choice based on looks. The Lexus will cater to a more modern audience as it flaunts a modern design.
The 2020 Toyota Land Cruiser hasn’t gone through any modifications when compared to the previous generation. It is a good sign as the Land Cruiser was already a bold straight forward no-nonsense SUV. It feels at home in challenging terrains which help it flex the muscles.
If you want an utterly reliable, relatively compact, functional, luxurious and craving offroader then the Land Cruiser is the one for you. It doesn’t disappoint you on roads as well, but off-road is where Toyota truly feels at home.
