Scout has announced its revival with a couple of awesome concepts slated for 2027 production. Both Terra Pick-Up and Traveler SUV will start under $60,000.
Volkswagen Backed Scout Unveils Traveler and Terra Concepts

Looks like the bottomless resources of the massive Volkswagen Auto Group have lifted Scout from a pit reserved for defunct carmakers like Fisker and Lordstown. Scout has given us a glimmer of hope with a couple of throwback-designed production-ready concepts.

The new Terra and Traveler models feature unique albeit tricky-to-repair panels that integrate their exterior lighting, highlighted by a thin LED strip that borders the blacked-out sections, complemented by rectangular headlights.

The LED daytime running light splits the headlights and runs behind the bodywork reemerging on the sides. Both models also pay homage to the original Scout with their upward-sweeping side windows.

The interior design promises a blend of luxury and practicality, with horizontal panels framing a digital gauge cluster and central touchscreen, though specific display sizes haven’t been revealed.

The 2028 Terra and Traveler have high-resolution camera views and over-the-air updates. Thankfully Physical controls are here and include toggle switches for climate settings and a volume knob, while the interior features rich brown leather and light-colored fabrics.

Both models include a frunk and are equipped with 120-volt and USB-C outlets. The Terra offers a 5.5-foot pickup bed with additional outlets, while the Traveler boasts a split tailgate and options for a glass roof or a Cabana Top.

Scout claims that both Terra and Rivian R1 Rival Traveler are adventure-prone and come with traditional mechanical handles and an all-new body-on-frame platform tailored for off-road dynamics.

The suspension and handling department includes a rather rare solid rear axle, front anti-roll-bar disconnect, and mechanical locking differentials for enhanced performance.

The Terra pickup is rated to tow over 10,000 pounds, while the Traveler SUV can handle over 7,000 pounds, with both models boasting nearly 2,000-pound payload ratings. They’re designed to accommodate 35-inch tires, providing 12 inches of ground clearance and nearly 36 inches of water-fording capability.

In terms of powertrain options, Scout offers both models as fully electric vehicles or as series plug-in hybrids. The latter utilizes a small gas-powered engine as a range-extending generator, dubbed "Harvester." The pure-EV versions are expected to travel up to 350 miles on a single charge, while the hybrids could achieve a range exceeding 500 miles, beating the Lucid Air
