The 2012 GMC Acadia is powered by a sizable 3.6liter V6 engine that runs on gasoline. The naturally aspirated motor is good enough for a healthy 288 horsepower and 270lb-ft of torque. The power figures are decent enough for the SUV and allow the vehicle to handle almost everything thrown at it, making it an extremely versatile vehicle. The motor is smooth and remains silent most of the time except for when you choose to pish it hard. The SUV takes 8.2seconds to run the 0-60mph sprint which is decent since you won’t be tearing any dragstrip with this vehicle.

The mechanically-identical Traverse has slightly lower power output figures than the Acadia but the Toyota Highlander lags behind the General Motor duo by a medium margin in terms of overall power figures and performance.
The 2012 GMC Acadia with its V6 motor doesn’t disappoint in the fuel economy aspect considering its size and power output. The SUV returns a generous mileage of 17mpg in urban driving while out on the highways the number increases to 24mpg. The combined mpg rating stands at 20.

Among the competition, the Acadia is the least fuel-efficient vehicle while the Traverse is slightly more fuel-efficient than the former despite being mechanically identical. The Toyota Highlander compensates its lower power figures with an excellent fuel economy rating beating the General Motor duo in the city and combined mileage ratings.
The interior of the 2012 GMC Acadia is quite impressive and a nice place to be in for longer durations. The cabin is quite spacious and comes with a two-tone color scheme and tastefully placed chrome trims all around. The Denali trim further adds a dose of woodgrain trims all around the cabin including the steering wheel. The seats are quite comfortable and supportive and the electronic adjustments for the driver’s seat in higher trims is a boon. The rear passenger seats are also quite comfortable and well-cushioned, ideal for long trips. Coming to the outward visibility, the rear visibility is heavily hampered by the third-row seats and a small rear windscreen and can be solved in the upcoming models.

The Acadia takes the bottom position in terms of overall passenger volume while its mechanical twin, the Traverse has the best and most spacious cabin among the rivals on the list. However, the Highlander’s third-row seats are a tight fit and are practically unusable for adults.
The infotainment system of the GMC Acadia is nothing extraordinary but offers a decent set of features and practicality. The system comes loaded with several standard features including Bluetooth, navigation, USB connectivity, and OnStar emergency telematics. An optional rear-seat entertainment system is also available that further adds to the entertainment experience of the passengers.
Some highlighted features of the infotainment system are:
From the outside, the 2012 GMC Acadia looks and feels like a proper modern SUV with its dominating looks and appearance. The front-end looks smart with a mesh design front grille and good-looking headlamps. The SUV’s straight lines on the outer sheet metal and chiseled wheel-arches will remind you of the brand’s dominance in the truck market and gives the Acadia a “ready to get things done” appeal. The vehicle also comes with decent ground clearance and won’t face much difficulty scaling some rough terrains occasionally with the AWD layout.

The mechanical-twin of the Acadia, the Traverse comes with slightly bigger dimensions but is quite heavy as compared to the Acadia and the Highlander. The Highlander boasts a towering 8-inch ground clearance giving it oodles of practicality over the General Motor duo.
The 2012 GMC Acadia is quite impressive in terms of the safety aspect too. Both the NHTSA and the IIHS gave the SUV their best possible rating and it proves the overall high-grade safety aspect of the vehicle. The vehicle also comes with all the basic safety features as standard which includes traction control and an antilock braking system.
Some highlighted safety features of the SUV are:
The Acadia is a unibody SUV from GMC which means it won’t support you in serious off-roading but it will be more than happy to carry out all your daily errands without breaking a sweat and can carry as many as 8 people and still cruise at triple-digit speeds along the highway. The SUV also impresses on the inside too with a premium and comfortable cabin align with a host of convenient features. Overall the Acadia poses as a worthy contender among the well-established rivals in the market such as the Chevrolet Traverse and the Toyota Highlander.
