Overall Rating
The 2016 GMC Acadia is a full-size crossover SUV with an abundance of features and a plush ride quality. The Acadia suffers from sub-par fuel economy and a mediocre performance for its size.
Up for a redesign next year, the 2016 GMC Acadia, for now, will follow the same popular recipe with minimal changes on the feature front. Although that doesn't stop GMC to equip the whole Acadia lineup with the latest OnStar telematics-4G and Wi-Fi. Further minor changes to the tune of two new shades: Ebony Twilight Metallic and White Frost join the color palette.
The 2016 GMC Acadia SUV comes with a spacious interior and superb towing capabilities. The GMC Acadia is a true 3-row utility vehicle with adequate space in the 3rd row for adults. With a starting price of $30,975, the SUV offers impressive cargo capacity, a potent V6 motor, and an optional AWD system to further enhance its usability.
We could recommend you to go for the SLE-2 trim since it provides the best value for money with a host of features. If you plan to go off the roads occasionally, you can equip your truck with the AWD system for further practicality.

The 2016 GMC Acadia is powered by a potent 3.6-liter V6 motor and it pushes out a healthy 281 horsepower and 266 lb-ft of torque. With the mentioned power figures, the SUV can carry out most of the everyday tasks and when equipped with the AWD, it won’t mind getting its wheels dirty occasionally.
The motor is smooth and works perfectly with the 6-speed transmission to put down all the power to the tarmac when asked for. The Acadia also manages to be fairly quick on its feet from a standstill. The 2016 GMC Acadia goes from 0 to 60 mph in 7.8 seconds, which is decent for a vehicle of its size.

When compared with the rivals on the list, the Acadia’s power figures are at par with most competitors. The Toyota Highlander stands rather underpowered, puts out the least power figures yet it carries a similar price tag as the other two. while the Chevy Traverse takes 7.5 seconds and the Highlander does the same in 8.9 seconds.
Having a good fuel economy is a crucial point that almost every buyer will consider while buying a utility vehicle. Considering that, the 2016 GMC Acadia falls short while returning good fuel economy as compared to its immediate rivals. The Acadia returns a measly 15 MPG in urban driving conditions and returns a somewhat decent 22 MPG out on the highways. The combined mpg disappoints truly with a sub-20 MPG figure of 18 mpg.

The Chevy Traverse offers a decent fuel economy while the Toyota Highlander offers a commendable fuel economy rating owing to its smaller engine and low power output. If gas mileage is your top priority while picking a practical SUV, the 2016 Toyota Highlander should be the best choice in this case.
The 2016 GMC Acadia truly impresses when it comes to its interior. The SUV comes with a seating capacity of 7 people and houses a luxurious interior with plenty of features. Almost all the exposed surfaces that you’ll likely touch or rest your hand upon, are made out of soft-touch materials yet sports a robust build. The all-around view in most three-row SUVs is extremely limited and so is the case with the Acadia. As such, the rearview camera eliminates the inconvenience to a great extent.
The overall cabin feels very quaint, yet technologically well-appointed. Power-adjustable seats feel wonderful, and you can also choose to upgrade to ventilated seating surfaces. The instrumentation is designed keeping driver ergonomics in mind, and certainly, everything feels well within your reach once you're in the driver's seat. All the buttons and switchgear feel great to touch and hold, highlighting the 2016 GMC Acadia's impressive build quality. The Acadia certainly manages to captivate its audience with comfort, convenience, and composure, and one can certainly put the Acadia high on their preference list if the interior is an important aspect of choice.Â

The Chevy Traverse is the most spacious SUV on the list with the Highlander being the least. The Traverse’s third-row seats are quite spacious and useful but the Acadia’s third-row seats offer a space for just two individuals to be able to sit comfortably over long trips. Some key interior features offered with the 2016 GMC Acadia include:
Â
2016 GMC Acadia Infotainment System
The infotainment system of the GMC Acadia features a standard 6.5-inch touchscreen display combined with a six-speaker audio system. The Acadia also offers an optional rear-seat entertainment system, a 10-speaker Bose surround sound system along with GMC's IntelliLink system. The system packs in some basic standard features such as a Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth, and multiple USB ports. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are missing though.Â
The infotainment interface feels fairly organized and fluent. However, we didn't quite like the rather gaudy interface, with too many bright colors and extravagant icons. In a world of minimalism, GMC's infotainment interface certainly needs to be at par with modern-day requirements of aesthetics and usability. Some key infotainment features offered with the 2016 GMC Acadia include:
The 2016 GMC Acadia looks equally appealing on the outside as it is on the inside. The front fascia sports a fairly aggressive look with a bold front grille design with the GMC logo placed nicely and with big yet stylish headlights. The front bumper houses two fog lamps and comes in a dual color scheme. The side profile of the SUV is expectedly sizable with big wheel arches and a muscular overall design.
With a fully redesigned model coming in the year after, GMC has found it in itself to not bring about major exterior changes to the 2016 Acadia. So the only change we'll be able to witness in 2016 is the addition of 2 new shades, namely the Ebony Twilight Metallic and White Frost in the color palette.

The Acadia is the lightest SUV on the list tipping the scale at 3956 lbs while the Traverse is the heaviest one. The Traverse measures more than the rest in every aspect giving it more road presence. Coming to the ground clearance, the Toyota Highlander has the highest of them all, which helps it wade through small boulders and take on the uncharted territory quite easily.
Safety is one of the strong points of the 2016 GMC Acadia SUV. The 2016 model year Acadia comes with superb build quality and also aces the crash-tests from both the NHTSA and the IIHS with excellent scores. The NHTSA gave a perfect 5-star rating while the IIHS rated the SUV as overall “Good” considering all the test scenarios.
The SUV packs in almost all the basic active and passive safety aids that will keep you from harm’s way in everyday driving conditions. All the way from dual-stage airbags and side-impact beams, to Lane Departure Warning and Active Roll Control, the 2016 GMC Acadia keeps passenger safety under constant monitoring. Some key safety features offered with the 2016 GMC Acadia include:
Some of the Acadia's safety features include:
The Chevrolet Traverse was recently redesigned and modernized. Unlike the GMC Acadia, the Traverse has better fuel economy along with better performance from the V6 engine. Both the vehicles have ample room in their respective cabins but the Acadia has more cargo capacity than the Traverse.
Overall, the Acadia does show its age in terms of performance and efficiency when put up against the Traverse which helps the Traverse pull ahead. Our recommendation would be to go with the 2016 Traverse.
In terms of design, the 2016 Buick Enclave is the polar opposite of the Acadia. The curvy design language of the Enclave looks elegant and classy whereas the Acadia looks boxy and aggressive. The Buick has a better interior overall but has less cargo capacity than the Acadia.
Both the Acadia and the Enclave have identical fuel efficiency, but because of the heftier price tag of the Enclave, which is around $10,000 more than the Acadia makes the 2016 GMC Acadia a better deal overall.
The 2016 Acadia is an all-rounder and GMC has priced it decently too. For the price, the SUV offers a lot in terms of safety, interiors, performance, and comfort. The Acadia handles pretty well and the excellent ride quality will urge you to take it out for a spin every now and then. So if you’re looking for a true 3-row SUV that offers plenty of comforts and is a safe one, the Acadia is the one to go for. For the price, the 2016 GMC Acadia certainly offers incredible value compared to the competition. While some vehicles in this class prioritize efficiency over performance, and some cargo space over comfort, the 2016 GMC Acadia manages to balance all the parameters without the slightest compromise. We highly recommend considering the 2016 model year GMC Acadia for your next purchase.
