The 2024 Mercedes EQG should be available in a single trim that will cost approximately $135,000, considering the G-Class starts at $131,750. The 2022 G-Class is available in two variants the AMG G63 and G-550, both feature V8 engines. However, with Mercedes is pulling the plug on it's V8 engines over quality concerns, the idea of an electrified G-Class wasn't far from reality. Also, we expect AMG to lay its hands on the EQG too, just as it is doing with the EQS. Apart from the EQG, Mercedes has the EQS, EQB, EQA, and EQE in the works.

The 2024 Mercedes EQG has immense potential for luxury styling given it’s EV pedigree. Even the Concept EQG features a Maybach S-Class-like two-tone exterior and 22-inch hemisphere alloy wheels. The flat roof rack gets a White-LED strip to serve as a searchlight on the EQG’s offroad ventures. The rear-mounted spare wheel cover is replaced by a lockable box to store the electric charging cable.
"We're travelling into the future with the new EQG! This car epitomises the fusion of state-of-the-art off-road capabilities with the dawn of electric mobility. It stands for our relentless pursuit of the utmost desire and luxury. For us, the most important thing was to keep the full G-Class DNA but beam it into the EQ age. Modern accents like the white LED technology and a wallbox on the rear of the vehicle illustrate the difference." - Gorden Wagener, Chief Design Officer Daimler Group.
The batteries will be floor mounted onto the land frame of the 2024 Mercedes EQG. Speculations are that the EQG will have 4 independently controllable motors for driving each wheel. As it is based on the EQG Concept, the production EQG will feature a shiftable 2-speed gearbox and independent front axle suspension. The battery capacity on the EQG will definitely be more than 100 kWh, but efficiency will take a major hit owing to the massive weight of the G-Class.
The current Mercedes-AMG G63 makes 577 hp, we expect the 2024 Mercedes-Benz EQG will produce more power than that. Also, the electric powertrain will promise instant torque delivery which is good for both - off-road and on-road driving. Currently, there is only the Rivian R1S which provides luxuries and off-roading performance. However, by 2023-2024 we expect to see a lot many contenders like the GMC Hummer EV, the rumored Ford Bronco EV, and Jeep’s EV Wrangler. We wouldn’t be surprised if Land Rover electrifies its Defender too.
