Ford has filed a Rattler name to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. The name could be used for "motor vehicles": automobiles, pick up trucks, electric cars, sport utility vehicles and off-road vehicles.

Ford has filed for a trademark in the U.S. to use the Rattler title. According to the reports provided to the specialists, the pseudonym could be used for "motor vehicles": vehicles, pick up trucks, electric cars, sport utility vehicles and off-road vehicles. As for the consideration, one suggestion posits that the Rattler title could serve a model centred on off-road driving, such as a variant of the new Maverick compact pickup.

Recently, we saw the new off-road 4x4, the 2021 Ford Explorer Timberline. This adds an entirely new level to the family SUV. Unfortunately, while we wait for Ford Bronco production to obtain solid ground to be found so that we can see the Bronco Warthog, which sits on 37-inch stock tires, also the F 150 will have the Raptor.

The Rattler name could be a fitting one for the Ford Maverick's off-road version, which would serve as a kind of baby Raptor under the F-150 and Ranger models. Although it's speculation, the Ford Maverick Rattler rolls off the tongue quite nicely.

Motor1.com reached out to Ford to see if the automaker was willing to share any information about the application and received the following corporate response:

"Trademark applications are intended to protect new phrases, designs or symbols but aren't necessarily an indication of new business or product plans", Dawn McKenzie, Ford Spokesperson.

Ford's highest-spec offroad vehicles are named Raptor. This could suggest that the Rattler is a lower spec within Ford's offroad hierarchy. This is an exciting point, and marketing teams love deeper meanings. However, Ford has not yet released any factual information on the topic.
