after teasing us with numerous spy shots, the new much more awesome-looking BMW 228 xDrive Gran Coupe and the M235 xDrive Gran Coupe are here with a major revision in all aspects.
The design of the new 2 Series Gran Coupe looks more like its elder siblings like the 3 and 5 series and is much more proportional than last year's snub-nosed models. The long hood and short overhangs are much appreciated along with quad pipes on M sport models.
The 2025 model is slightly longer at 179.2 inches, up by 0.7 inches, while maintaining a wheelbase of 105.1 inches and a width of 70.9 inches. The height has increased to 56.9 inches.
Standard M Sport exterior features include a pronounced front apron with large air intakes below the wide kidney grille, and seamlessly integrated headlights. Subtle arrow-shaped LED lights serve as turn signals and daytime running lights.
The 2025 BMW 228 GC has about 20 additional horses at 241 hp between 4,500-6,500 rpm, and 295 lb-ft between 1,500-4,000 rpm capable of doing 0-60 mph in just 5.8 seconds.
Inside, the new BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe adopts a leather-free philosophy, featuring standard Perforated Veganza upholstery available in four colors. The M Sport Package elevates the interior with Veganza/Alcantara trim and contrasting dashboard stitching. Standard heated sports seats offer comfort while massaging Active Front Seats with lumbar support are available for the first time. The revamped sports steering wheel now features Pearl-gloss Chrome accents and illuminated multifunction buttons.
The dual 10.25-inch and 10.7-inch Curved Display integrates the latest iDrive system with BMW Live Cockpit Plus with cloud-based navigation via BMW Maps, a 12-speaker Harmon/Kardon sound system, Comfort Access keyless entry, wireless charging, and auto-dimming mirrors. A standout feature is the new BMW Digital Key Plus, which allows users to unlock the vehicle using their smartphone or smartwatch via ultra-wideband technology, eliminating the need for a traditional key fob.
The lively M235 xDrive Gran Coupe distinguishes itself with M-specific features, such as a bold grille, black exterior mirror caps, and eye-catching quad tailpipes. It houses a powerful 4-cylinder engine that produces 312 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque, achieving 0-60 mph in just 4.7 seconds. BMW has ditched the 8-speed in favour of a 7-speed Steptronic Dual Clutch Transmission provides rapid shifts and includes M Sport Boost for additional acceleration.
BMW has a revamped suspension system for all 2025 2 Series Gran Coupe models. Key updates include increased body rigidity and a 20% rise in the front wheel caster offset, optimizing both ride comfort and sporty handling. Both the front and rear axles feature new components designed for enhanced rigidity and reduced weight. The front axle’s design supports agile steering, and the rigid rear axle improves wheel guidance, enabling high lateral acceleration.
Standard features like the Adaptive M suspension and sports steering enhance handling and comfort, while optional M Compound brakes offer superior stopping power. The interior maintains a sporty ambiance with Veganza/Alcantara sports seats and M graphics on the BMW Curved Display.
Parking is made easier with the standard Parking Assistant, which includes Active Park Distance Control and a Rear View Camera. The optional Parking Assistant Plus provides additional functionality with features like a Drive Recorder and Remote 3D View.
The BMW 228 xDrive GC starts at $41,600. The M235 xDrive Gran Coupe is priced at $49,500. Looking ahead to mid-2025, the 228 sDrive Gran Coupe will enter the scene, featuring a two-wheel drive layout with the same power output at a competitive price of $39,600. All models will add an additional $1,175 for destination.
