Overall Rating
With a price-tag that falls just short of the $60k mark for the fully loaded Avenir trim, the Enclave falls short of its German rivals in terms of luxury options and premium feel.
The 2020 Buick Enclave presents a very strong case for itself to be considered as a key player in the mid-size luxury SUV segment in the US. It is loaded with standard features such as 3 rows of comfortable seating, Active Noise-canceling cabin, HD surround vision, and a hands-free power tailgate.
We suggest you opt for the Essence trim with AWD configuration and upgrade it with the Sport Touring package which adds a black mesh front grille, body-color grille surround, and chrome and graphite 20-inch wheels.

All trims are powered by a standard 3.6L V6 that churns out 310 “buff horses” @ 6800rpm and has a maximum torque output of 266 lb/ft @ 2800rpm. All trims except the base Preferred trim have the option for either an FWD or AWD configuration.

Which trim would we recommend?
We suggest you opt for the Essence trim with AWD configuration and upgrade it with the Sport Touring package which adds a black mesh front grille, body-color grille surround, and chrome and graphite 20-inch wheels.
The naturally aspirated V6 under the hood of the latest Enclave is exactly the same unit that powered its predecessor. This engine churns out a class-leading 310 hp @ 6800rpm and has a maximum torque output of 266 lb-ft @ 2800 rpm.
The extra horses, however, takes a toll on the fuel efficiency of the 2020 Enclave. This engine is mated to an efficient and smooth 9-speed automatic transmission.

The engine does its job very effectively and you will never feel underpowered, whether you’re driving in the city or cruising on a highway. The V6 also allows the 2020 Enclave to tow around up to 5000lbs without breaking a sweat. That’s on par with the 2020 Infiniti QX60. A well-damped suspension enables the 2020 Enclave to hide the road imperfections and mass but makes it rigid and less athletic. However, this trade-off comes with good dividends as the ride quality of the all-new Enclave is extremely smooth and the passengers remain undisturbed almost throughout a drive.
The 2020 Buick Enclave is one of the fastest accelerating cars in the segment. The V6 powering the Enclave is very potent and hammers out 305 hp which makes it one of the most powerful mid-size SUVs.
The extra horses flex their legs here and give this car an instant boost in acceleration.

Talking about timings, the 2020 Enclave can do 0-60mph in 6.5 seconds and complete a quarter-mile drag race in just 15.1 seconds. These figures make this car the fastest among its prime rivals. The 2020 Acura MDX follows the Buick to a very close second spot while the 2020 Infiniti QX60 is the slowest in the lot, largely because of its curb weight and underpowered V6 under the hood.
All trims of the 2020 Buick Enclave are equipped with ventilated disk brakes and ABS on all 4 wheels. The braking is quite efficient and can bring the Enclave to a standstill from 60mph in 134 feet. While this is not the best figure in the segment, we would like to remind you that the Enclave is the largest car in the segment and has a curb weight of 4359, which is second only to the 2020 QX60.

The 2020 Buick Enclave, along with the 2020 Infiniti QX60 can tow up to 5000lbs. The engine is powerful enough to handle this load without breaking a sweat. Hence, you can easily ferry a trailer, park it in a secluded spot with a great few and enjoy the weekend.

The standard 18” wheels along with the well-tuned suspension results for a very smooth and composed ride. However, the curb weight and the dampened suspension means that the 2020 Enclave loses agility. Cornering at high speeds might be a challenge for many folks.
The basic all-wheel-drive system with the Essence trim helps in reducing wheel slip. The costlier Premium and Avenir trims have a sophisticated Dual-Clutch AWD system. One of these clutches can be used to shuttle power between the wheels rather than applying the brakes.
The 2020 Enclave is not the most fuel-efficient car in the segment. The powerful V6 under the hood sips more gasoline than its rivals in order to churn out the extra horses. However, the difference is not going to burn a hole in your pocket and the Enclave still remains a great daily driver option.

Talking numbers, the FWD configuration delivers 18 MPG in the city and 26 MPG on the highway that translates to a combined figure of 21 MPG. Fuel-efficiency of the AWD option takes a slight hit with figures of 17 MPG in the city and 25 MPG on the highway resulting in a combined figure of 20 MPG. To make up for the dip in efficiency, the AWD Enclaves get a larger fuel tank that has a capacity of 22 gallons as compared to 19 gallons in the FWD Enclaves.
The 2020 Infiniti QX60 and Aura MDX are the leaders in terms of fuel efficiency in the segment with a combined figure of 23 MPG.
The long wheelbase of the 2020 Buick Enclave ensures that there’s ample space in each of the 3 rows. The bucket seats in the front row with power adjustment means perfect seating position and lesser stretching breaks. The seats are heated and also has lumbar support for added convenience.
The tall cabin makes sure that there’s enough headroom for the 2nd row even with the available power moonroof. The available captain's chairs slide back and forth to make room for the passengers in the 3rd row. They also fold easily to make ingress and egress easier.
Once you’re in the 3rd row, you’ll be surprised by the amount of space on offer. 2 adults can comfortably fit in for a short trip.

Buick’s Quiet Tuning technology onboard the 2020 Encalve makes for a really quiet cabin. Active noise cancellation blocks and absorbs exterior and unwanted noises which are achieved by triple door seals, acoustic laminated glass and a noise-reducing five-link rear suspension. The interior is also adorned by wood trims and brushed chrome accents which lend it the much-needed premium look and feel to justify its price tag.
The latest Enclave comes equipped with a standard 8” touchscreen that is conveniently tucked inside two asymmetrical air vents. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay is standard across all trims. The UI of the IntelliLink infotainment system is pretty user-friendly and has a bunch of nifty features to make your journeys easier and more enjoyable.
Navigation with real-time traffic and weather updates is optional, as is a wireless charging pad for smartphones. All three rows of seats have two USB ports for charging devices. The Premium and Avenir trim gets a Bose premium 10 speaker audio system with an amp and a woofer.
The standard cargo space of the 2020 Buick Enclave behind the 3rd row of seats is 26.6 cubic feet. This car is more than capable of handling all your day to day needs with ease.
Only Cadillac XT5 has a larger trunk than the 2020 Enclave. However, the Cadillac lacks the 3rd row of seats.

The silhouette of the 2020 Buick Enclave is identical to its predecessor. However, fine detailings in the latest avatar of the Enclave gives this car its own identity. The signature Buick front grille is surrounded by fluidic arcs that lend the Enclave a very contemporary look.
The Blacked out mesh of the front grille in the higher trims makes it looks premium and sporty at the same time. The winged headlamps, besides looking beautiful, are extremely bright.

The bright chrome accent in the tailgate looks familiar to the one from the front grille. High LED taillamps and the big exhaust outlets give the Enclave a bigger stance and bolder look. The available roof rails add utility.
In terms of dimensions, the 2020 Enclave is the biggest car in the segment. 120 inches of wheelbase means a spacious cabin that can easily fit in up to 7 passengers.
Usually, most cars from the GM stable, come loaded with a plethora of standard safety features. Buick, as a brand, follows the same trend, owing to Buick being a part of the GM stable. The Buick Enclave has a host of driver assistance features like teen driver assist, blind-spot warning, and monitoring as standard. Other than this, the chassis of the Avenir has been made from using a combination of Aluminum and high-strength steel.
If these aforementioned aren't enough to relax your mind on the safety front, here is a list of other safety features that you'll find in the Enclave.
Both of these cars are great entrees into the mid-size luxury SUV segment. The 2020 Acura MDX is ruggedly built and offers a great driving experience. The Acura, inheriting all the Honda traits, often gets great resale values. The Buick, on the other hand, reflects its all-American heritage. The well-sculpted exterior shell is matched by the spacious and comfortable interiors. The engines under the hood are similar but differ in terms of power and efficiency. If you want a fuel-efficient engine, the MDX is the car for you while if power is what you long for, opt for the Buick Enclave.
2020 Infiniti QX60 is one of the best-rounded off cars in the segment. The unconventional yet iconic shell sets it apart from the rest of the pack. The inside of the car is filled with premium materials like leather and Maple wood. The cabin is pretty spacious with comfortable seats. The Enclave is very similar in terms in terms of build and quality. However, the more powerful V6 under the hood makes this a better choice if you hit the highway often or like wandering off the road.
The 2020 Buick Enclave checks all the right boxes. The cabin is extremely spacious and thoughtfully designed. While inside, you will be shrouded in a blanket of luxury. The well-tuned suspension trades agility for a calm and composed ride. The available AWD makes it a capable car for the sates where winter is severe. You can also occasionally take it for off-road trails. However, the top trims of the Enclave are pricier than its rivals and fall in the same bracket as its European counterparts, but cannot match them in terms of quality and luxury.
