Infiniti has reconfigured the QX80 lineup to include a new mid-range Premium Select trim and a high-end Sensory model for 2021. - Caranddriver
The 2021 Infiniti QX80 is offered in 3 trim configurations, namely Luxe, Premium Select, and Sensory. Available for a base selling price of $69,150, the 2021 QX80 retains the same mechanicals of the outgoing 2020 model, as it comes with the 5.6L naturally aspirated V8 motor mated to the 7-speed automatic and RWD/4WD drivetrain, putting out 400 hp. The exterior also sees no major changes as it retains all the features of the 2020 QX80 like the LED headlights with LED DRLs, 8 exterior color palettes, 22" alloy wheels wrapped in P275/50HR22 tires, and many more as standard.
With the addition of 2 more trims, the 2021 QX80 does get more standard interior and safety features, in comparison to the outgoing 2020 model. The interior features like 8" touchscreen InTouch infotainment system, 17-speaker Bose audio system (Sensory trim), Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, leather upholstery, premium burlwood trim on the inside, large rearview mirror that doubles as the rear camera display, and many more are standard for the higher trims. The 2021 Infiniti QX80 is a big SUV that drives like one, unlike some rivals. - Thecarconnection
The 2021 Infiniti QX80, which is available for a base MSRP of $69,150, retains the same powertrain and mechanicals of the outgoing 2020 model, which is a 5.6L naturally aspirated V8 motor mated to the 7-speed torque converter automatic transmission, putting out 400 hp and 413 lb-ft of torque. The power is put down through the RWD drivetrain as standard. However, all the trims do come with an optional 4WD drivetrain too. This full-size luxury SUV also topped the chart in terms of towing capacity, offering 8,500 lbs of maximum towing capacity.
The 2021 Infiniti QX80 sees no changes to the suspension, apart from the top of line Sensory trim, which gets an adaptive hydraulic suspension setup. Even though the suspension setup is quite modern, it does feel like a high off the ground heavy full-size SUV, especially while taking corners. With a high body roll and vague and ultra-light steering setup, this SUV is not going to thrill anybody. However, the ride quality on offer, both during slow-speed city riding as well as during highway riding turned out to be one of the best of the segment. The stability and high-speed road manners are excellent as well.
With the V8 motor under the hood, we expected the 2021 QX80 to come out with the best in class acceleration times. However, the heavy curb weight did bog down the performance and acceleration of this motor. The car managed to give out a 0-60 mph time of 5.9 seconds and a quarter-mile time of 14.9 seconds, both of which are similar to the less powerful offerings of the segment. When it comes to the brakes, the 2021 QX80 offers 13.8" front and rear rotors along with all the other braking features. However, the 60-0 mph braking distance of 137 feet was lackluster.

Even though the 2021 QX80 was the cheapest offering of the segment, it never managed to skimp on the performance front, as it came out to be the second most powerful moniker, after the 2021 Escalade. The 2021 Mercedes Benz GLS 450 gave out a lower 362 hp from its inline-6 motor and the 2021 X7 turned out to be the least powerful offering of the segment. However, in the acceleration front, both the 2021 GLS 450 and the 2021 X7 gave out a slightly better 0-60 mph time of 5.8 seconds. This is followed by the 2021 Escalade and the 2021 QX80 with a 0-60 mph time of 5.9 seconds.
Simply put, the QX80 has awful fuel economy. The EPA estimates that even the thriftiest variant is rated at 14 mpg city and 20 highway. - Caranddriver
The 2021 Infiniti QX80 comes with the massive 5.6L naturally aspirated V8 motor of the outgoing 2020 model and hence the gas mileage on offer also remains unchanged. This full-size luxury SUV gave out a city gas mileage of 14 MPG and a highway gas mileage of 20 MPG. The combined gas mileage of 16 MPG also remains unchanged from the 2020 model.
Available for a base selling price of $69,150, the 2021 QX80 comes with a 26-gallon fuel tank capacity that helps the SUV to give out a city range of 364 miles, a highway range of 520 miles, and a combined range of 416 miles. This turned out to be one of the worst of the segment in terms of range on offer.

Both the 2021 BMW X7 and the 2021 Mercedes Benz GLS 450 turned out to be the best offering of the segment in terms of gas mileage, returning a combined 21 MPG. This is followed by the 2021 Escalade with 17 MPG of combined gas mileage. In terms of the tank range, the 2021 GLS 450 topped the chart and the 2021 Escalade gave out the worst range of the segment.
The interior of the QX80 isn't the most cutting edge or well-designed in its class, in fact, it hasn't changed much since they first introduced it back in 2011. - Carbuzz
The 2021 Infiniti QX80 is a full-size luxury SUV that can accommodate 7 passengers with utmost comfort. The interior of this 2021 iteration does see a few updates over the outgoing 2020 model, mainly in terms of features offered as standard along with the different materials and trims used to make it look and feel more premium. Offered in 2 interior colors, namely graphite leather and wheat leather, the 2021 QX80 does manage to stand out. The Premium Select trim and the Sensory trim also sees a difference in the interior colors and trims used, in comparison to the base Luxe trim. This SUV is also very ergonomic.
Along with that, many interior features like leather upholstery, heated and powered seats, heated steering wheel, automatic climate control system, panoramic sunroof, etc are standard across the lineup as well. When it comes to the interior space, the front row turned out to be slightly mediocre to some of the rivals, especially due to a lower headroom and legroom. However, the second row was quite spacious, with impressive headroom, legroom, and shoulder room. We were disappointed with the third-row space and it is best suited for kids, due to the lack of legroom. Even the cargo capacity of 16.6 cu ft was also poor.

Though the 2021 QX80 can accommodate 7 passengers, it is not the most spacious offering of the segment. In comparison, the 2021 BMW X7 and the 2021 Cadillac Escalade offered a much superior interior space for all three rows. The 2021 Mercedes Benz GLS 450 was also better for the second row and third-row passengers. When it comes to the cargo capacity on offer, the 2021 Escalade topped the chart with 25.5 cu ft. This is followed by the 2021 GLS 450, 2021 QX80, and 2021 X7. The entertainment duties are handled by the upper 8-inch and a lower 7-inch LCD touchscreen and the 17-speaker Bose audio system.
It also comes in with all the standard connectivity features like Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Wi-Fi Hotspot, Bluetooth, AUX, USB, and many more. The infotainment system on offer with the 2021 QX80 turned out to be quite decent, with an intuitive interface and excellent display quality. However, all the rivals had a more feature-rich system, making this InTouch infotainment slightly old-school. The audio through the 17-speaker Bose audio system was one of the best of the segment. Even the 13-speaker system in the Premium Select trim was excellent too. Some of the interior and infotainment features on offer are:
Handsome but far from understated, the QX80 is a reasonably stylish big SUV. - Thecarconnection
The only major difference for the 2021 Infiniti QX80 in the exterior front, in comparison to the outgoing 2020 model, is the addition of dark chrome exterior trim and 22" alloy wheels for the Premium Select trim, which is available for a base MSRP of $73,450. The top of the line Sensory trim comes with more chrome trims on the exterior making it stand out from the lower 2 trims. The front view of the 2021 QX80 turned out to be quite imposing and striking to look at, mainly due to the LED headlights with LED DRLs, chrome wrapped wide grille with chrome accents above the air dam, and the massive 75.8" height.
Even though the side view of the 2021 Infiniti QX80 sees no changes from the 2020 QX80, the chrome window lining, chrome door handles, fender flares & the massive 22" alloy wheels add to the character of this behemoth SUV. The rear view of the 2021 QX80 also looks decent for the segment, with LED taillights, an integrated rear spoiler, a shark fin antenna, and a powered liftgate system. 8 exterior colors are offered too, however, some of them can only be had for an additional $695. The length of 210.2" and width of 79.9" doesn't really translate to the interior space, which is a bummer.

Though the 2021 Infiniti QX80 turned out to be one of the largest offerings of the segment dimensionally, the 2021 Cadillac Escalade topped the chart, offering the best in class length, width, and height. The wheelbase was the best for the 2021 Mercedes Benz GLS 450 and the 2021 BMW X7. The curb weight of 5,701 lbs of the 2021 GLS 450 makes it the heaviest of the segment too. Some of the exterior features on offer with the 2021 Infiniti QX80 are:
The 2021 Infiniti QX80 is a safe car, but couldn't convince the NHTSA or IIHS to give it a perfect score. - Edmunds
The 2021 Infiniti QX80, which is offered for a base selling price of $69,150, turned out to be a decent proposition in terms of safety, as can be seen from the overall crash safety rating of 4-stars attained by the moniker in the NHTSA crash test. The car also received 3-star overall frontal crash test rating, a 5-star overall side crash test rating, and a 3-star rollover crash test rating. However, IIHS hasn't crash-tested the moniker yet.
The 2021 Infiniti QX80 also retains the same build quality as the outgoing 2020 model, making it quite a safe offering, similar to all the rivals of the segment. The main safety features of the 2021 Infiniti QX80 that are worth mentioning include forward emergency braking with pedestrian detection, around view monitor with moving object detection, blind spot intervention, zone body construction with a reinforced passenger compartment, and front and rear crumple zones. Some of the other safety and driver-assistance features on offer are:
Available for a base selling price of $76,200, the 2021 GLS 450 is one of the best-selling full-size luxury SUVs on sale in the United States. This can be mainly attributed to the premium and spacious interior, decent performance and acceleration, and a long list of features offered as standard. The gas mileage was also better than the 2021 QX80. However, the 2021 QX80 offers a longer list of standard features and comes with a more powerful motor that has a superior towing capacity.
The 2021 BMW X7 trumps the 2021 Infiniti QX80 in terms of driving dynamics, ride quality, and acceleration on offer. Even though it comes with a lesser-powered inline-6 motor, we found the 2021 X7 to be a much more enjoyable daily driver. The interior space was also superior to the QX80 and so is the gas mileage. Available for sale at a base MSRP of $74,900, it is about $5,000 more expensive than the 2021 QX80. The 2021 QX80 also offers a longer list of standard features and equipment, making it a great option for families.
The 2021 Cadillac Escalade a luxurious full-size SUV from America that ticks most of the boxes for a full-size SUV. It is spacious, offers impressive ride quality, and has the most powerful V8 motor of the lot. The standard features and tech are also slightly better than the 2021 QX80. However, coming in at a base MSRP of $77,490, the 2021 Escalade is slightly more expensive than the QX80. The towing capacity is lower than the QX80 as well. If you could stretch your budget, we would recommend you to get the 2021 Escalade.
The 2021 Infiniti QX80 has a lot of things going for it. Available for a base MSRP of $69,150, it is the most affordable offering of the luxury full-size SUV segment. It is also quite powerful, offers a premium interior, comes with many bells and whistles as standard, and offers many standard driver-assistance features too. However, all of the rivals turned out to be even better in most of the front including gas mileage, interior space, and driving dynamics. Along with that, the 2021 QX80 does feel quite long in the tooth. Hence, we would recommend you to get the 2021 X7 or the 2021 Escalade, if you are looking for a luxurious family hauler.
