Bugatti has launched some of the last variations of its hypercars with the W16 powerhouse, and by the end of 2024, this engine will become an almost 20 year old powerhouse for the French hypercar maker. Under the influence of Rimac, everyone thought of it becoming an EV brand, but fortunately that is not happening, because of Rimac itself.
Bugatti-Rimac Is Preparing An ICE Hypercar, Says No To EV

As per history, the phenomenal Bugatti Veyron was launched back in 2005, and it was still in production until 2015, which indicates a basic timeline of a hypercar series being about 10 years overall. If we look at the Chiron, it was unveiled back in 2016, and as of now, it is going to hit a 7 year production run in just a few months. Isn't it obvious that something is in the works in Bugatti's R&D department as the next hypercar?

What if I told you that there were plans for an electric hyper SUV as a replacement for the Chiron? Or maybe there were plans to kill the whole brand as EV hypercar makers are taking charge of the global market? Will you be worried?

Guess what? It is the truth. The French hypercar company was about to make an electric hyper SUV or be permanently shelved in the shadow of the VW Group. Both of these ideas sound awful for a company that was powered by a quad-turbo W16 engine.

In a recent interview with Mate Rimac, there were several facts about the recent happenings regarding this company that came out to the public. When Rimac got along with Bugatti, they were surely not willing to shelve the company, but producing an electric SUV sounds fine to an EV hypercar maker, right? Nope.

Plot twist, Rimac has been working on an internal combustion engine for the last few years, and that will be the engine saying goodbye to the almost 20 year old W16 unit. And this engine will be put into the next Bugatti supercar with a hybrid setup. And with that, the EV hyperSUV concept was laid to rest.

Here’s a bit of insight from the Croatian man, Mate Rimac himself-

"The Bugatti thing is more turn up to the opera and then drive 400 km/h (249 mph) on the Autobahn. It will be more beautiful, analog instruments, kind of watchmaking stuff.”

He added, “With Rimac, we want it to be absolutely insane, bonkers, full-electric—drifting at 60 km/h (37 mph) with a gigantic cloud of smoke behind you, autonomous drift modes, futuristic stuff."

So the EV manufacturer understands what is what, and where to draw the line between two companies’ objectives, and boy-oh boy, aren’t we happy for that?

Rimac mentioned that the upcoming Bugatti hypercar is going to be unveiled in 2024, and we believe that deliveries can be expected in early 2025.
