Purple Bentley Batur Is All Set For Testing

Bentley first revealed the Batur, a limited-run grand tourer, at Monterey Car Week this year. The Batur is expected to join the Bentley lineup, which already consists of the Bentley Bentayga, Bentley Continental GT, and the Bentley Flying Spur.

Now, almost 4 months later, Bentley has started testing the car on public roads in Europe. This is being done to make sure that the Batur, like any other Bentley, is up to the company’s standards.

A total of 120 tests over 58 weeks are included in the development plan. For the purpose of this test, two prototype models are being used and they are called Batur Car #0. The engineering team at Bentley made these two cars as they ones that are planned to be made for future customers.

According to Bentley, the body's small arrows are a special detail. They let the engineers keep an eye on any panel movement while the vehicle was being tested.

The initial task for Batur Car #0 is significant. It will travel 2,500 kilometers across Italy, France, and Spain before arriving in Germany. The vehicle is then put through seven weeks of testing to improve handling and test its high-speed performance. There are another 4,660 miles of actual driving after that spell.

Besides the time spent making sure the cars are up to Bentley’s standards, the company spent more than 100 weeks on powertrain development. The Batur is the most potent Bentley that has ever been produced. It produces 730 horsepower and 738 pound-feet of torque from its twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter W12 engine.

Driving a big tourer must be comfortable, and for that same reason, the Batur is supported by an air suspension. The car also boasts four-wheel steering and dynamic anti-roll bars.

Customers who purchase Baturs will collaborate with Bentley to customize each one. The company sells interior components made of leather from Scotland and Italy. Recycled yarn is used to make the rugs. Even 3D-printed 18-karat gold parts can be ordered by customers.

According to Bentley, a total of 18 examples of the Batur will be made, with each one having a price tag of £1.65 million, which converts to $2,028,741 at current exchange rates. We expect the first batch of Baturs to be delivered to their owners in mid-2023.
