2022 BMW X7 for sale

With a facelift expected next year, the 2022 BMW X7 is now available for sale with only a few changes to its features list. Wireless charging is no longer standard this year while enhanced Bluetooth is made standard. The optional Dynamic Handling package is no longer available for the base 2022 BMW X7 xDrive 40i and is available only for the more powerful 2022 BMW X7 M50i SUV, which also gets power sunshades instead of manual ones for the rear seats.

2022 BMW X7 Buying Advice

The BMW X7 has remained majorly unchanged since it was first launched in 2019. Apart from the minor feature updates, there have been no changes made. Since there is a facelift on the cards next year, we suggest either waiting for the newer model or getting a used X7 BMW at a discounted price and saving money on the vehicle's depreciation.

The cabin of the 2022 X7 gets all the luxury one would expect from a top-end model. The interior BMW X7 is spacious to seat 7, comfortable, and packs the latest technology. Power comes from a 3.0L turbo inline-6 engine that makes 335 hp and 332 lb-ft of torque. The X7 is fairly agile but the 523-hp 2022 BMW X7 M50i is a beast in terms of performance and can do the 0-60 MPH sprint in just 4.5 seconds. The 2022 X7 competes with the luxurious Mercedes-Benz GLS 450, the practical Audi Q7, and the affordable Volvo XC90.

The 2022 BMW X7 for sale starts at an MSRP of $75,895 including destination fees. While the starting price may seem high, BMW offers attractive finance and lease options for buyers to choose from. The finance offers begin at $1,351/month for a period of 60 months at 3.99% APR. Lease deals start at a monthly payment of $1,204 for a 36-month duration and 12,000 miles of annual mileage limit. Both the offers require only a $2,500 down payment.

Buying Advice

The BMW X7 xDrive40i comes with a long list of standard comfort and convenience features. It is recommended to opt for the Driving Assistance Professional and Parking Assistance packages for $1,700 and $800 respectively. If you live in colder climates, the $1,100 Cold Weather Package will be useful as it adds five-zone automatic climate control and heated rear seats.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

The 2022 BMW X7 won't appeal to everyone, but then again, it wasn't designed to- Carbuzz

The 2022 BMW X7 serves as a perfect blend of power and luxury. It houses a capable engine that is fairly efficient and delivers a splendid acceleration performance. The interior BMW X7 offers high levels of luxury and practicality and the cabin is loaded with technological features. At 90.4 cu-ft of maximum cargo space and a decent 5,400 lbs of towing capacity, the X7 BMW is one of the most practical full-size luxury SUVs in the segment.

Being an expensive and luxurious SUV and the high BMW X7 price, there's no wonder that the running costs of the 2022 X7 are also high. Its ownership costs are approximately $16,700 per year which includes maintenance, fuel, repair, insurance, etc. With a reliability rating of 81/100 by J.D. Power, it leads the pack right behind the Cadillac Escalade. Expect the 5-year cost of ownership to be around $101,130, which is much higher than the Audi or Volvo.

Buying Advice

The 2022 BMW X7 xDrive40i comes with a long list of standard comfort and convenience features. The BMW X7 price of $75,895 is a bit high but it is recommended to opt for the Driving Assistance Professional and Parking Assistance packages for $1,700 and $800 respectively. If you live in colder climates, the $1,100 Cold Weather Package will be useful as it adds five-zone automatic climate control and heated rear seats to the X7 BMW.

The 2022 BMW X7 xDrive40i is available in just one sole trim. The BMW X7 price starts at $74,900, excluding a destination fee of $995. That's a hefty price tag compared to other rivals in its class. Fuel Economy
7.9/10

The BMW X7 is fairly fuel-efficient for a luxury large SUV- Cars.USNews

The fuel economy figures of the 2022 BMW X7 are pretty decent, considering its heavy curb weight. The mild-hybrid system paired with the powertrain helps to return better gas mileage. According to the EPA, the X7 can manage 19 MPG in the city, 24 MPG on a highway, and 21 MPG combined. These figures also align with its rivals' fuel estimates.

The fuel tank in the 2022 X7 is pretty large as well at 21.9 gallons, it can deliver a range of up to 416 miles in the city, 526 miles on a highway, and 460 miles combined. The driving range is slightly less than its rivals but it is still competitive. Overall, the X7 is an efficient large luxury vehicle in its class despite the strong specs and performance.

Undoubtedly, the Volvo XC90 is the most efficient SUV in this segment but its small fuel tank leads to a shorter driving range. Comparatively, the fuel estimates of the Audi Q7 and Mercedes GLS are slightly less than the competition. That said, the large gas tank capacity of the Mercedes-Benz GLS 450 benefits from the class-leading driving range.

Interior
7.9/10

The X7 has one of the most excellent interiors in this competitive class, with a classy design and premium materials throughout- Kelly Blue Book

The 2022 BMW X7 is the brand's flagship SUV and its interior speaks for itself. The build quality is clearly exceptional and high-end quality materials are used everywhere. The dashboard can be customized with piano black accents or real wood trim to amp the luxury vibe. The seats are as luxurious as you would expect in the BMW X7 interior. They are comfy and supportive while the front seats are well-bolstered to keep you in place. Despite the high BMW X7 price, leatherette upholstery is standard, which is a big letdown. In standard form, the front seats can be adjusted in 16 different directions with heated functionality.

One can replace the middle row with two captain chairs if you prefer for the interior BMW X7. That row slides forward and backward. What you cannot argue though is the sheer space that this cabin offers. The first rows offer abundant head and legroom. The third row is adult-friendly and can be used for short journeys, at least. The large panoramic sunroof allows you to enjoy the scenery and breath fresh air. The 2022 X7 comes standard with a 12.3-inch touchscreen that uses the latest iDrive software. A 10-speaker audio system is standard but an optional rear-seat entertainment system is no longer available.

The standard trunk volume in the X7 is 12.8 cu-ft., which is the lowest in its class, but fold the rear two rows of seats and you get a maximum cargo space of 90.4 cu-ft. That's a lot of space to still all your belongings for a small trip. The X 7 BMW gets a split power tailgate as standard. While the Mercedes GLS 450 offers the most spacious cabin here, the Volvo XC90 is known for its cargo-carrying capacity. Audi offers marginally better trunk space than the BMW, but it isn't as spacious as the X7 for its occupants. Overall, the BMW X7 offers a perfect balance between passenger and cargo space.

Some important interior features are:

  • Leather, heated power-adjustable steering wheel

The BMW X7 is an SUV that makes a statement- Kelly Blue Book

With its large proportions and butch styling, the 2022 BMW X7 has an imposing road presence. Since the X7 is the biggest and most luxurious SUV in the lineup, it gets the biggest kidney grille ever seen on a BMW. The grille dominates the design of the car. Besides the grille, you get sleek adaptive full LED headlights while the LED DRLs are very distinctive looking. Everything put together, the front end is big, bold, and very upright.

From the side view, you can actually notice how big this SUV is. The 2022 X7 is huge in size and it sits on standard 21-inch aluminum wheels which add to the road presence of the SUV. These wheels keep the SUV 8.7 inches above the ground which is more than most buyers would ever need. The rear end is clean and simple, unlike the front end and BMW offers 13 different paint color options to cater to the tastes of the buyers.

The Volvo XC90 has the shortest wheelbase in this segment which justifies the limited cabin space it offers. The Audi Q7 is the shortest SUV amongst the lot and hence, it lacks adequate headroom in the third row. Unlike its rivals, the Mercedes-Benz GLS 450 has a low ground clearance for easy ingress and egress. In terms of design though, it is the BMW X7 that shall garner most eyeballs and make a statement of arrival on the streets. Some notable exterior features are:

  • Adaptive LED wiper-activated headlights
  • Adaptive LED taillights
  • LED fog lamps & LED DRLs
  • Power-folding, heated exterior mirrors
  • Chrome grille with active grille shutters
  • Chrome bodyside moldings
  • Dual integrated chrome exhaust tips
  • 21-inch aluminum wheels

Safety
8.5/10

Every X7 has an assortment of standard driver-assistance technology in addition to several more advanced options- CarAndDriver

Due to its high price, the X7 BMW was not subjected to any kind of crash tests by organizations like IIHS and NHTSA. However, the SUV's structure is pretty strong and solid. Moreover, there are various crumple zones on all sides to absorb the crash impacts. Looking at BMW's history of producing safe vehicles and the minimum problems faced, we can assume that the X7 is also a safe vehicle.

Talking about the safety features, the Bimmer always stands out from the crowd as it is known for its safety technologies. The X 7 BMW has a plethora of modern-day safety features from basics like six airbags to some of the high-tech driver-assist features. Packages like Driver Assistance Professional Package and Parking Assistance add more safety tech. These include:

  • Blind-Spot Detection w/Rear Cross-Traffic Alert
  • Frontal Crash Warning w/ Pedestrian Detection
  • Lane Departure Warning w/Lane-Keeping Assist
  • Parking Assistant Plus & Automatic Lane Change
  • Adaptive Cruise Control w/ Stop & Go
  • Traffic Jam Assistant & Evasion Assistant
  • Active Driving Assistant Pro w/Speed Limit Recognition
  • 360-degree camera

Competition

2022 BMW X7 vs 2022 Volvo XC90

The Volvo XC90 has a lower initial price than the X7. The engine lineup has strong fuel economy but offers lazy acceleration. Its towing capacity is also the lowest in the segment. Both the SUVs offers opulent and high-tech interior but in terms of cargo space, the 2022 X7 is slightly better. The XC90 earned the best safety ratings in this segment and is a perfect SUV for safety lovers.

2022 BMW X7 vs 2022 Audi Q7

The price gap between the Audi Q7 and the BMW X7 is massive as it packs slightly fewer features. The main areas where the Q7 lags are smaller third row and have less cargo space than the X7 as it is a little smaller in size. However, it matches the X 7 BMW in terms of driving dynamics and towing capacity but the Q7 is more agile. The 2022 X7 is ahead with more powerful engines in its lineup.

2022 BMW X7 vs 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS 450

The Mercedes-Benz GLS 450 is the closest to the X7 BMW. Its base engine is more powerful and hence delivers agile acceleration. The luxury and comfort you get in the GLS 450 remain unmatched in the luxurious SUV segment. The 2022 X7, on the other hand, beats the GLS 450 in terms of tech features. So the likes of these two cars may vary from person to person.

Final Verdict

The 2022 BMW X7 is a very practical SUV with a muscular look, luxurious touches all over the surface, and an abundance of comfort & safety features. Though it is a bit more expensive than its rivals, it is still a good choice in its segment. The Mercedes-Benz GLS 450 gives tough competition to X7, and it has more advantages over it in some departments. The Audi Q7 here looks like the most valuable SUV as it's less priced than its competitors, and it is also laid out with versatility and good features.
