2022 BMW X1 for sale

The entry-level 2022 BMW X1 is a decent amalgamation of potent powertrain setups and outright feature-packed luxurious cabin space. The current generation is a continuation of the one that came out in the year 2015 and is desperately due for an update. The 2022 BMW X1 isn't quite the facelift but does include some differences from the previous year's model. Prices for the same should start from an expected MSRP of $36,500, for the sDrive 28i variant and go all the way up to $38,500 for the topmost trim.

Based on the same UKL 2 architectural platform, BMW also plans to unveil an EV version of the same by 2023, called the BMW iX1. On the powertrain front, expect no changes as the 228 hp 2.0L turbocharged 4-cylinder unit still carries out the power duties. It is potent enough to haul the SUV from 0-60 MPH in just 6.8 seconds. With a simple yet elegant design, a comfortable interior, and a decent performance, the X1 fulfills all it's required to do.

Buying Advice

We would strongly go for the X1 sDrive28i and add more options at extra cost. The Premium package gets you features like LED headlights with cornering lights, heated front seats, heated steering wheel, upgraded navigation, keyless entry, and a Head-up display.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

The 2022 BMW X1 is a light and fun SUV to drive around in, courtesy of its efficient new platform and potent powertrain setup. It also takes care of practical and utilitarian needs, with its feature-packed and spacious interior. Moreover, combine it with the already upmarket interior fittings and high-quality materials, and voila, you get a bestseller. For this first time, the X1 is going to come in an optional EV variant, which is going to open a lot of doors for EV vehicles. However, we might have to wait till 2023, for that to happen. The 2022 BMW X1 will rival the Audi Q3, the Cadillac XT4, and the Volvo XC40. Let's see if the old-fashioned BMW can outperform the new blood or not.

What is the Price of the 2022 BMW X1?

With certain new changes and upgrades in the pipeline for 2022, the prices for the BMW X1 have soared a bit high, as it should now start from an expected MSRP of $36,500 and go all the way up to $38,500.

What is the Release date of the 2022 BMW X1?

With no official statement on the same, we can expect a Fall-2021 release for the 2022 BMW X1.

Buying Advice

We would strongly go for the X1 sDrive28i and add more options at extra cost. The Premium package gets you features like LED headlights with cornering lights, heated front seats, heated steering wheel, upgraded navigation, keyless entry, and a Head-up display. This certainly proves out to be the best value for money trim in the lineup.

Fuel Economy
5.0/10

One of the more surprising things about the 2022 BMW X1 is that even though it comes with a turbocharged inline-four, it offers you a great MPG. Speaking of which, the 2022 BMW X1 is expected to give you an average MPG of 24 in the city, 33 MPG on the highway, and 26 combined. This is with the FWD setup in place. Opt for the AWD setup, and those figures drop down to 23 and 31 MPG in the city and highway respectively.

With the 16.1-gallon fuel tank, you can push the 2022 BMW X1 to its limits on the highway and help it reach about 500 miles of range. However, you can expect the economy to go over the roof once the EV version shows up. As compared to the rivals, the 2022 BMW X1 is on par in terms of fuel economy, however, if you look at the highway MPG, the X1 has a slight edge over everyone else.

Interior
6.0/10

The cabin's design seems uninspired compared to some segment competitors, though it's spacious and airy in th efront row - Motortrend

We have always been delighted with the beemer’s interior and the 2022 BMW X1 is no different. However, if you speak strictly in terms of design, the cabin does look quite bland. It's not what we expect from a car in this price range. Speaking of comfort, this Bimmer SUV is comfortable. with leather upholstery all over and soft-to-touch material on the dash and the doors, the cabin feels immaculate.

The padding on the seats is good and the bolstering on the side makes you feel secure and supported. The crossover can easily accommodate 5 passengers with room left. The rear row doesn't feel cramped at all even for taller adults, which is going to be one of the USPs for the X1. As compared to the competitors, the X1 feels quite larger in size. If you look at the rear legroom, it's greater than most of the rivals out there which makes it feel quite roomy overall. The cargo capacity is top-notch and is the largest in the segment.

The 2022 BMW X1 Will come with interior features such as:

  • All Glass roof with a panoramic sunroof
  • Power-adjustable front seats
  • Automatic Climate Control
  • Automatic Air Filtration
  • Split-folding rear setback
  • Infotainment screen
  • Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto

Moving on to the infotainment, the 2022 BMW X1 is going to show off a standard 8.8-inch infotainment screen, which is the iDrive system. This system is considered to be one of the best infotainment systems to be installed in any vehicle. However, the only drawback is that it does not support Android Auto even now. The standard speakers are not as immersive however if you upgrade to the 12 speaker setup from Harman Kardon, nothing like it. The voice recognition is quick and responsive and doesn't pick up gibberish. Overall, the cabin quality and the infotainment make the interior experience inside great.

Some of the highlights of the infotainment system are as follows:

  • HD Radio
  • 12 speaker Harman/Kardon sound system (Optional)
  • Seven speaker audio system
  • Standard 8.8 inch iDrive infotainment system
  • Apple CarPlay
  • IN-dash navigation
  • Bluetooth connection

Exterior
5.0/10

There are no major changes in the 2022 BMW X1 except the slight design touchups of the third-gen. The camouflaged car looked slightly larger than the previous year’s model and is believed to be wider as well. Even without the changes, the BMW X1 carries a classic old-fashioned crossover look that looks appealing to most.

The 2022 BMW X1 will still feature the infamous kidney grille, although a bit bigger in size. These are partnered with outright corner headlights and flared arches. Coming to the dimensions at hand, as compared to the competition, the 2022 BMW X1 has one of the largest ground clearances in the segment, which makes it slightly more adaptive on the off-road however, that is not what we expect extensively from the X1. moreover, even though it has one of the shortest wheelbases in the segment, the cabin space upfront is still quite spacious.

Safety
7.0/10

In terms of safety, the 2022 BMW X1 is a great vehicle in the segment. The previous year's model received a 5-star rating from the NHTSA and IIHS hasn't rated it yet. However, looking at the safety features and the build quality, we expect the 2022 BMW X1 to be a safe and sound vehicle that can take a beating. Based on the UKL2 platform, the 2022 X1 uses both aluminum and high-strength steel, which proves out to be quite rigid. Speaking of safety features, the 2022 X1 is expected to come with both the latest active and passive safety features like the following:

  • Rear Parking Aid
  • Stability Control
  • Traction Control
  • Tire Pressure Monitor
  • Lane Departure Warning
  • Forward collision warning
  • Automatic High beam headlamps
  • BMW Assist eCall
  • Rear Cross traffic alert

2022 BMW X1 vs 2021 Audi Q3

Both the entry-level SUVs have hardly gone through a major update this year. Out of the two, the BMW X1, gets a minor reworked exterior silhouette, and a botched-up interior layout, while the Q3 remains unchanged. The BMW X1 is much more sportier and aggressive in terms of handling dynamics, despite both the SUVs have similar performance figures.

The X1 is faster than the Q3, courtesy of its low heft. Although, when it comes to the interior layout and the outright creature comforts on offer, Audi Q3 skims ahead for the win. The Q3 manages to offer a luxurious setting overall.

2022 BMW X1 vs 2021 Volvo XC40

The up and about Volvo XC40 is new to the playfield, and it certainly has its set of perks that allow it to set itself apart from the rest of the segment. Out of the two, the 2022 BMW X1 is certainly the most sportier one, both in terms of handling dynamics, and also in terms of outright acceleration. The X1 is a full 2 seconds faster from 0-60 MPH than the XC40.

The X1, also takes the cake in terms of fuel efficiency. But that's about it in X1's favour, as the XC40, wins in all of the other sectors. It certainly is one of the best looking cars in the segment, and it also manages to deliver a luxurious interior setting, something which the X1 misses out on.

Final Verdict

The 2022 BMW X1 is expected to completely take the game on its head, in the class. The performance is inspiring and the driving experience is great as well. The comfort factor is decent, but the design is quite bland. Further with no changes on board, we'd also suggest you wait for the completely redesigned 2023 X1. Having said that, overall, if you’re looking for a comfortable family SUV, the mildly updated 2022 BMW X1 deserves to be in contention.
